I'm looking into a guided horseback camping/fishing trip in Yellowstone for next year for my wife and I. Combining our two interests. Right now it looks like each one, understandably, has a minimum number of greater than our 2. Hoping we can get combined in with another group.

Forecast called for 1-2 foot seas and 5-10 mph winds and mostly sunny. Woke up at 4AM, was at the bait shop by 5AM, filled up with fuel, live shrimp, 120 pounds of ice, croaker, and then drove 30 minutes to the Pascagoula launch. Plan was to go offshore 20-25 miles to some rigs and structure for mangrove snapper, cobia, and triple tail. Decent ride out about 7 miles past some barrier islands in 1-2s but when we got into the open water it was rough. Solid 2-3s maybe some 4s. Immediately said fuck that and turned around. Went back north of the barrier islands and could see some storms near the islands headed north west towards us. Tried to fish some inshore structure but the storms had the wind kicked up and we could hear thunder so went back to the bout launch. Fished around the launch because , why the hell not. Caught some white trout for a few hours then called it a day. You win some you lose some.

I wonder if most of yall use reel covers and if so can you give me a recommendation on brand and even better provide a link? My reels are getting scuffed up . I think it is happening in transport. TIA.

HOOSINSC Is this time of year ok fishing the Tuck? Is the area between Webster and Dillsboro considered the East Fork? I saw that there is no dam release planned for Friday on the East Fork, but can't find it defined.

are you getting boat rash from storing under the gunnel? You can get sea dek or something like that to help. I’ve seen small squares they sell cheap for just the section where the reel sits

I think it is happening when I put the rods in the truck bed on the way to the boat ramp. They slide around or bump into each other etc. I can't put the rods in the rocket launchers - trees limbs could clip them . I have under gunwale holders and rod lockers. I guess that is an option. I typically have a bunch of random crap in my rod lockers and the under gunwale's will hold 4 total. On a typical offshore trip I'm bringing 6 offshore rods and a few inshore rods.

Id check Amazon or eBay. Could probably find generic neoprene covers for cheaper than shimano or some other brand one. They probably just get the generic ones and slap a logo on

I bought some Shimano butterfly wraps and some other rod wraps yesterday to wrap around offshore rigs when running offshore so that my lines don't get all tangled up or egg weights to beat up rods /eyelets. Gonna get some reel covers now.

I may have a problem with spending money on toys. Just ordered a 12 inch NSS EVO3, a 3 in 1 active imagine transducer, Simrad Halo 20 Radar Dome, NMEA 2000 starter kit, and Yamaha to Simrad chord that will allow me to see engine data on my MFD. Pumped to upgrade from an older 9 inch MFD to a 12 inch state of the art. Also super pumped for radar. And my current transducer doesn't have side scan. I want to play around with scanning rigs, cargo ships that are anchored (cobia) etc.

it's been so dry the tailwaters are probably all that you can fish without a hike.

now that I think of it the smallmouth should be pretty heavy in the river closer to Fontana this time of year.

Was checking out sirius XM weather this monring. It's like $500 for the simrad antenna and then for like $15 a month you can get up to date radar weather for the entire coast even offshore and out of cell range. I'm tempted. Dome radar gives you weather for probably around 20 miles. But if you wanted to see a large front or a bigger picture, sirius/xm weather would be more beneficial.

Anyone have any fishing shorts they recommend? The two I typically wear have finally reached their limit.

    couple caveats.

    1. needs to be elastic waistband or adjustable strap no button
    2. Prefer a liner vs having to wear underwear.
    3. Can’t do long ass shorts
    4. Uv moisture wicking etc preferred
    5. Some sort of zippered front Pocket ir side pocket

when I have to pee yes. That’s why I want lined shorts. But yes the shorter shorts make it easier to pre in the kayak. I typically urinate through the pedal drive hole after removing the drives

I did that too. Then I’m like why don’t I just pre in that big hole in front of me.

anyways found some lulu lemon knock offs on Amazon that look promising. For 25 bucks. If not I’ll just go purchase another pair of those north face ones.

i have been wearing these shorts for probably 5 years. Since I’ve gone wfh in March 2020, I wear them 90% of the time. I wear them until the elastic wears out and then get a new pair. Have a zippered pocket in side that has not rusted on me

edit - dammit looks like they’ve been discontinued. This is them
