I always end mine with, “Thanks,” Unless I’m fucking with them and it’s, “Kindly thank you kindly. Warm regards,”
I work with a firm whose admin assistant's is "make everyday better than yesterday" I'd honestly prefer if it was live/laugh/love
I like to start my team emails by addressing everyone with “sup sluts” because we have a real locker room culture at my company
Had a lady at my job years ago who had a bible verse in pink cursive. F500 company. At some point we went to a company required format for signatures, but she held out as long as she could.
I love getting emails from people who have like purple italics as their default font with like a plaid background.
The Microsoft 2FA that I use 1-3 times daily has a don’t ask for 14 days checkbox, but it still asks every time. Why even have it?
I can beat this. I've been off this week and was receiving phone calls at 5:30 Monday morning. Had to put an end to that pretty quickly.
People have background patterns on their emails? DBL out here with a tasteful, subtle houndstooth in Outlook.
My work ended up cleaning up a lot of that with a standard format but yes apparently you can do that in Outlook
Yes, and if you respond to that message, that background defaults in your message too. It infuriates me.
God damn, background image in your email is so fucking tacky. I can't recall ever seeing that in the past couple of decades, let alone at work.
A coworker has this and I want to throw his computer out the window every time I get one of his emails. He knows it pisses people off which is why he does it.
What's the longest conference call you've ever had to be on - where you actually had to be prepared to comment at any given time?
Got an email inadvertently sent to every single person in the corporate office. Probably around 2000 people. Probably got 30-50 “Please remove me from this thread” replies before IT shut it down. My favorite was the guy who replied all to ask to be kept on the thread. We have fun here.
I worked at the Tallahassee Democrat for a couple of years. The Democrat is owned by Gannett, which has over 20,000 employees across the world. Some poor bastard sends out a Gannett-wide email. So I'm sitting in the newsroom in Tallahassee, Florida, receiving emails from people in the Hong Kong bureau, asking to be removed from the email. Hundreds and hundreds of responses. Crashed the email server in about five minutes. Then it started trending on Twitter.
This happened yesterday but with a Microsoft Teams channel. Someone created one that was like acronym_acronym_2022 and everyone was responding asking what it was for, how to get off of it, someone said something about Bill Gates stealing company information. Hilarious. Then it got locked and an email went out saying it was supposed to provide company updates but they didn't set it up correctly and they'd just stick to emails.
Like, a planned meeting or a last-second outage call? The former 9 hours with a lunch break. The latter like 36 hours with a 2 hour nap.
I do a lot of talking with outsourced support in India and I am wished well and told to have a good day 3 times an email.
With a new client the architecture/design reviews are always multiple all day meetings. Back in the day you’d fly out but these days it’s video conferencing. An outage call can be brutal for tier 3. The tier 1/2 guys and vendors can rotate in&out but if tier 3 is needed it is usually just you.
Shit, 36 ain’t even my record. I did 73 hours straight once but it wasn’t on a call. It was just me. I got off a plane and checked my voicemail and some dipshit overwrote the operating system on our oracle financials server. So I had to rebuild from tape. In 1999 it took a while to build large file systems and restore from tapes.
Some old ass dipshit developer. When I came on I took away root from all the devs. So I’m in Virginia specing out the new data center and while I was gone he says he decided he’d boot from cdrom and change the root password then change it back after he did whatever he claimed he needed to do. This was his story but I know he lied because you don’t fat finger “boot /cdrom install” He was retiring early with a nice package because they gave them out to anyone who declined to move to Virginia and he wanted to get me fired. I’m not a fucking moron and found exactly what was done. He got walked but still got his package. But I’m not bitter or anything lol
Oh but joke was on me for reals cause instead of a package I moved to Virginia for 80 grand in stock options vested after 3 years. 1 year later they went bankrupt. I ended up with a 2 week package instead of 3 months had I decided not to move.
So basically some old motherfucker decided to intentionally cost the company presumably a shit ton of money because he hated you?
