Talent wise I can't see us not being the best team on the field. We also have almost all of our tough games at home(Memphis on the road). I wouldn't be surprised if we ran the table.
If Mikey or TC get the job, there will be 8-10 moments this season where Gus will run out JRP on 3rd and long and we’ll all want to kill ourselves. We should all acknowledge this now and make peace with it.
Would be funny/sad if JRP gave up a CWS championship to go to another school and end up as a backup QB.
I would bet against castellanos winning the job. I would imagine they use his 4 games where they can though.
Honestly in the era of transferring I wouldn’t expecting a guy to stay 4 years so who cares about the red shirt?
I mean bringing in a transfer QB after the deadline for the guy you are replacing to leave is fucked.
I don’t want to put too much on the web. A lot of shady shit by USF the way they did him. Telling him, his family and friends all spring how great he was doing and how pleased they are he’s there and then boom, Bohanon transfers in. Heard USF boosters paid $350k for Bohanaon. Bohanon turned down $250k from Missouri to start there to go to USF. So you know all along they couldn’t not start him even if McClain was better. Also look at UCF and Ole Miss in the running here and expect a certain WR to follow with them
The amount of talent coming out of that program is insane. We need to get Goldie and build a fence around that damn HS for good.
Gabe is really good people too. Become friends with him the past 4 months. Dude is so laid back. His brother should get more playing time for y’all this year. 2/3 knee surgeries.
If we didn't have Castallanos then I'd be all for getting McClain. Tommy is the future of our program
Yeah I'm sure. I mean I'd give him a shot. I doubt he is looking to transfer to a place without a clear starting spot open though. FAU maybe?
From what I’m told UCF been calling and wanting him bad. He’s not leaving because he lost the job. It was lying and deception by the coaches. There was zero talks about bringing in a transfer and then bam. Then paying 350k and acting like it was an open competition is a complete and utter lie as well
The crazy part is I know what company paid for it as well and that was from a high level exec of the Tampa based company
Hopefully, the Seminole coaches will be pissed at USF, which will be a win regardless if we get Horn/Timmy.
I'm pretty confident no one from Seminole is going to USF if we want them. Timmy wanted to be at UCF but Heupel was a loser. Glad he found a deranged fanbase that pays untold amounts of money so he doesn't have to recruit.
Anyone pay for 247? https://247sports.com/college/centr...s-Plumlee-Chip-Lindsey-Gus-Malzahn-191435725/
Spoiler: 247 Article ORLANDO, FL- We are now just 18 days away from the UCF Knights kicking off their 2022 college football season inside FBC Mortgage Stadium. As we close in on the year, I will be taking a look on each position group and breaking down any competitions for starting or primary reserve positions. We start at the quarterback position which has been the group to receive the most media coverage this offseason and a battle is still publicly ongoing between sophomore Mikey Keene and senior John Rhys Plumlee. However freshman quarterback Thomas Castellanos has absolutely blown people away with how he’s come on during the fall camp, and sources around the program are acknowledging that he could be the guy earlier rather than later. Redshirt-Sophomore quarterback Will Bohn and true freshman quarterback Brock Hansel round out the room. Keene and Plumlee had entered into a public quarterback battle during the Spring with both quarterbacks showing real signs of growth. Keene who started the final 10 games of the 2021 season after Dillon Gabriel’s shoulder injury had really improved all around, from his dieting to his on field performance. He’s reportedly put on between 10 to 15 pounds of muscle since last season, and really worked to improve himself as a runner which is something he expressed a need to grow in last season. Offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and head coach Gus Malzahn have continued to praise his work ethic this offseason and his maturity. Plumlee hasn’t been at UCF for as long as Keene, but he also offered some experience, starting at Ole Miss in 2019 after an injury to their starter. During his true freshman campaign he wowed coaches and fans alike with his “backyard football” style, running all over defenses and throwing bombs over the top. However, when Matt Corral returned from injury he retook his starting position and with Plumlee too talented to sit on the bench he moved to wide receiver. After transferring into UCF this Spring he began heavy work remastering the quarterback position, and after some public struggles early came out of the Spring Game looking really good. Plumlee still hasn’t been able to be live for a scrimmage as well which would allow him to show off an even more dangerous part of his game. Someone people hadn’t thought we’d be hearing much about right now though is freshman from Waycross, Ga. Thomas Castellanos. He had a lot of explosive plays as an early enrollee in the Spring, however he still was adjusting to being in college and being one of the youngest players on the team. He worked out with wide receivers Kobe Hudson and Javon Baker during the offseason, and has been one of the revelations during fall camp. Lindsey told the media, “Thomas Castellanos has really matured. Him getting here early in January, you can see it's night and day from spring to now. That's what you want to see. When you work in the summer and now we're in fall camp, he just looks more confident. Excited about his progress.” I talked about Castellanos with 247Sports Recruiting Expert Andrew Ivins recently and he said “I was a big fan of Thomas coming out of high school. He’s actually a guy I had on my Freak’s List as he not only moved the chains with his arm and legs on Friday nights, but also ran track and played soccer in high school. Scored like 20 goals or something like that. A little surprised that he’s in the mix his first year on campus, but at the same time, I’m kind of not. When UCF took him, I thought right away that it was a good fit because he’s the type of quarterback that Malzahn likes: a plus runner with touch that can throw a deep ball. To be honest, I always thought there was a little D’Eriq King in Castellano’s game, and that’s a good thing.” 4COMMENTS I’m told by multiple sources within and around the program that there’s a growing possibility of the named starter against South Carolina State would not be guaranteed the starting position for Louisville, and if Castellanos continues to show that he’s one of the most talented quarterbacks UCF has ever had as he has been, I would not be surprised to see a similar situation to the Dillon Gabriel, Dariel Mack, and Brandon Wimbush situation this year with a freshman phenom beating out the incumbent starter and a senior transfer after playing a weekday game against a HBCU opponent.
There were rumors about Timmy and Jimmy coming to UCF over the off-season, so it wouldn’t surprise me. I’d love to have both of them. If they transfer this late they probably won’t get a release to play though. So they’ll both probably redshirt I suppose.
