regardless of the product, WM is still one of the coolest events to attend in person across entertainment. Doesn't matter if you even like wrestling. Its a spectacle and one the WWE is unquestionably incredible at pulling off every year. Doesn't surprise me a new location has crazy sales.
Its funny to see the IWC "reporters" shit on stuff like the Summer Slam tryouts and on the flipside WWE winning awards over it. WWE just plays on another level that these basement reporters don't get. Who knows if any of them will amount to anything but they just boost the brand by this type of PR. And that doesn't even factor in the buzz they got from the Dwight Howard stuff.
I would imagine that a ton of those buys are by the bots who will attempt to flip tickets in the after market for an insane price tag IF WWE gets The Rock to wrestle. But you are correct that WWE has made Mania into a massive event just like a SuperBowl. I'm going to dump a stupid amount of cash when they put the Philly tickets on sale.
I think the shitting on the tryouts stuff was just Bryan Alvarez being salty that the jocks cut in line of backyard wrestlers like him and didn’t pay their dues by actually hitting each other with broken light tubes.
You're conflating 2 things. WWE won an award for their NIL work in 2021. WWE Summerslam tryouts in 2022 didn't go great. Both can be true.
Andrade Miro Adam Cole Are probably the top 3 who would be better served returning to WWE. Cole can bring Britt with him as she's being wasted in AEW
Yeah Adam isn't a legit option I would think because he just left and probably has a lot of term left on his deal. Miro and Andrade are probably close to the end and they probably sent out feelers. I think both should return to WWE as AEW never really figured out what to do with either.
My initial thought was Cole because Cole was the damsel of the ball in NXT during its peak, but Cole is signed for like 4 more years so wouldn't be much point in contacting him unless they think TK is going to grant him a release. Pretty sure Miro reupped his contract sometime within the last year as well but I could be remembering wrong on that one.
How on earth is Britt Baker being wasted? She’s the top woman’s star on the show and it isn’t close. Gets one of the biggest pops on the roster. She’s been put over as a pillar of the company. Punk is the biggest star they have and puts her over every chance he gets. And I’m sure you’ll talk about how bad the women’s roster is, and it’s still a work in progress. But if that’s your argument, every tag team in WWE is being wasted as well.
I could buy that she’s wasted in the sense her ceiling as a transcendent star is much much much higher in wwe. Not sure that’s what he meant tho
That’s where I am. WWE has more programming to feature, but thinking HHH is the magic elixir to every issue almost forgets AEW basically put his NXT out of business. I could get Miro wanting back but he’s teasing bringing in CJ so we’ll see. I could see Andrade going just because of his wife. He was a champ with a short reign under Trips but I think his character is just boring.
The problem with Britt and WWE is that she’d have to give up being a dentist to join WWE. DMD isn’t just a gimmick, people seem to frequently forget that. AEW may be what she is known for, but being a dentist is her main job, and, thus far, she hasn’t shown any desire to give that up.
Miro is mid and I’m sorry. The dude is as real as it gets and a legit tank but he can’t stay healthy or his character gets so weird he can’t sustain a run being over. I want him to work so bad but it just hasn’t in almost a decade now.
It's ok to admit that TK can't book the women in AEW and it's been a shit show since day one. It's ok to just agree that Britt in WWE wrestling the best in the world is better than whatever the fuck TK is providing right now.
NXT turned into pure developmental thanks probably in large part to AEW. It still to this day has a stronger viewership number as a clear developmental show than AEW #2 program. I also agree that HHH is not just going to turn everything into diamonds. But I also have seen AEW do jack shit with Miro and Andrade and what little success they had in WWE was much better than what they are currently doing. Guys like Jericho, Mox, DB I don't think we will see back anytime soon in WWE because AEW is putting them front in center in prime spots. Same doesn't apply to those two.
Watching the Owens and Lashley matches from last night. WWE taking full commercial breaks during matches just ruins their shows for me. Still putting the wrestling on the bottom of the priority list doing stuff like that.
Sure, when they are airing at 8 pm on a Tuesday vs. 10 pm on a Friday. Friday nights at 10 pm has always been a weak TV spot. Like comparing apples to oranges. NXT key demo pretty frequently does equal to worse than Rampage despite having a vastly superior TV timeslot.
Ever watch AEW? They have three hours, only 73 minutes of that was wrestling. There's plenty of opportunities to not be taking full commercial breaks during every match that lasts longer than five minutes.
What? So they would start a match, go to commercial break, pause the match, then resume when the break is over?
Yeah. They would end matches in two minutes or just do two out of three falls matches with the falls taking place between breaks.
It's a TV special. But it's getting a little more hype than most of the other super shows. Some people think HHH may be implementing some changes starting tonight.
You could've just said that start... I don't know why WWE doesn't do more PIP. It would be nice especially for bigger matches they are now giving more time to.
pip's a good idea but I always just fast forward through the break regardless and if I'm watching live I rarely pay attention to it
Pretty sure advertisers take into account the fact that everyone fast forwards through commercials when watching a recording though. Or at least I would assume they do because it would seem stupid not to.
Feel like I missed out not going when it was in Orlando but I’m sure it will be back in a few years and now I have a son to take with me so it’s all good.
I'm not coming from an advertising perspective, as a fan pip doesn't add much to my experience even if I'm watching live, it's a nice idea though and maybe others get more out of it
I remember WCW stacking comercials and clearing the last 15-20 minutes of it's Nitro's for the main event. Not sure WWE could do that around the 9 and 10 hour since those time slots seem to be the new main event segments of RAW but that would be a nice idea to possibly bring back along with PIP
