Every year I forget how bad Dave Starman is until WJC. Why do they trot him out? He’s the Jack Edwards of being biased but the Tyson Nash of knowing much about hockey. Awful on both fronts.
Do it Sens, would be terrible for y’all. Giving Arizona multiple top 5/10 picks. Sens have no one hitting their prime, they should continue to slowly build, not try to contend for 7th/8th place.
I don't think it would be top 5 picks, but they still aren't a playoff team unless one of botson or florida collapse. Also, that prospect would be a significant one, like Sanderson. But Ottawa thinks they are going to compete...
Won’t be Sanderson. Only other prospects that fit the description are Grieg and Pinto. Our other prospects are meh to depth level. Any picks they move right now are in the 15 range. But I get it you are always looking to show me up, which clouds your judgement. Ottawa is competing for a playoff spot at this point. Adding another top 4 D puts them even closer.
You must be in a perpetual rebuild, collect assets. Because there is no chance you will ever compete!!
The playoff bubble is death. Giving up first round picks to get to the bubble is how you blow a rebuild.
When you have players like Chabot, Tkachuk, Batherson, Norris, Zub, Stutzle, Debrincat… players hitting their prime or just about to, how long should you wait before taking a shot at it? What message do you send to a 23 or 24 year old who you just signed to an 8 year deal when you say we still aren’t good enough, let’s wait and see what next years 1st round draft pick looks like? At some point you have to focus on winning now. Look if you want to keep trolling have at it. But if you honestly can’t see where this team is and why after years of losing they decide to compete now for their fans/current players then that’s cool too I suppose.
Every Sens fan is over the moon with the direction Dorion has put the team in. Nor have I seen one pundit claim the Sens fucked up their summer and put their future in jeopardy. Every Leaf fan I know has been impressed. Leaf fans… the ones who can’t stand Ottawa. And yet…
https://theathletic.com/3471039/202...d=37083818&twclid=2-7fm7slefbia1x8m8hhkqojdyl Related That’s a cautionary tale for the Flames, with both Huberdeau and Weegar. It’s worth remembering for the Senators, with DeBrincat. It could be a problem for the Hurricanes and Pacioretty, although that deal could be more of a designed rental. It’s a red flag to anyone who might be thinking about pulling the trigger on Miller, Dubois or Kane, or any other stars who become available in a similar situation, even if the trades themselves seem to offer strong value. Buyer beware. Because the track record here is absolutely abysmal.
I'd wait until they showed me they were more than a 73 point team that missed the playoffs by 27 points and was 34 points behind 4th place Boston in the atlantic. This is the elephant you keep refusing to ackonolege. The Senators are in a division with 3 of the top 8 teams (4 of the top 10) when it comes to points in the NHL. To compete for the playoffs they have to be able to match one of those teams. Granted, I doubt the playoff cutoff will be 100 points again, but the Senators still need to be a 96ish point team and hope they get enough of a drop off from one of Tampa, Florida, or Boston. I don't see 23 more points with the adds they just made. Maybe Chychrun gets them there, but then they still just spent 3 first round picks to sneak into the playoffs. Is that enough to get a signature from Debrincat? IDK. you call me a troll after showing up ITT with this statement, Get shown data that it was completely wrong, don't bother to refute it with analysis of your own, but I'm the troll? I can see exactly where they are. They are a team that is still in the early stages of what looks to be a well orchestrated rebuild and accelerating it at the wrong time can end in disaster. If you accellerate and don't get over the hump, you are left with a team that isn't quite good enough and minimal assets to make it better. The Panthers are dealing with that same issue on a different level. Zito went All in last deadline on Chiarot (ugh) and Giroux. He didn't get out of the 2nd round and had little cap space or assets to add to the roster. Hindsight is 20/20, but I'm sure Zito would love those 2 firsts back to try and get a defenseman to replace weegar. well yeah, what fanbase doesn't get excited about a team that buys during the offseason. Marlins fans were all sorts of feeling themselves when they brought in Stallings, Garcia, and Soto this offseason. How'd that shit work out? Nowhever did I say that the Senators fucked up. What I have consistenly said is that the Senators are taking a high risk swing that may or may not work and if it doesn't, it sets them back a few years. But seriously, show me something to back up your argument that the senators are a playoff team. Show me some kind of prediction from respected pundits that have the Senators competing with the top 4 in the Atlantic. Show me an analytical model that has the Sens as more than just a wrong side of the bubble team. I've yet to see it, but I've also not been hounding the internets for season prediction models yet.
Chychrun, Cat, and Giroux plus Boston's injury struggles make me think playoffs is totally reasonable for that team
I think adding Chych makes them a 90ish point team. It would be a good add. But is that enough to get in? Does 90 points justify the cost? And most importantly, does that get Debrincat to stay?
IF Ottawa moves it’s 23 and or the 24 pick, at least they will have debrincat and Chychrun to show for it. Not like they’ve wasted them on deadline deals. Go ahead and use all the stats you want from last season when Florida finished 50 points ahead of the Sens. Of course it’s going to show a favourable image of your players. But take out your second best D, and don’t replace internally or externally, that’s not a positive. Looking forward… our top 9 greatly improved, goaltending stabilized and our D will be slightly better with Sanderson. With Chychrun it gets even better. Although I don’t think he’s the right move. He’s a left shooting D, not a righty. Continually banging the drum that Ottawa should stay with the rebuild is stupid. Timing was right when they made their moves. You’re just pissed I lapped you on Giroux and then Quenville. Heard from a Sens player thru a mutual friend that the team knew a year ago Giroux would sign here. Yet you wouldn’t let it go. Goof.
Even without Chychrun Ottawa is vastly improved. So are Detroit and Buffalo. So these three won’t be easy pickings for the top 4 from last season. Florida didn’t improve, Tampa will start to tire, and Boston have their own problems. Toronto with Murray ..: can’t read that at all. The division has become more competitive, balanced.
Congrats on giroux. You were right on that one. Nice job deflecting on the topic at hand. You still haven’t brought up anything other than feels.
I’ve talked about next season. As I don’t own a time machine, I’ll have to rely on my experience when discussing it. You’ve become the new Farva. Congrats.
You call me Farva but want us to take your own experience as word when we have much better indicators available to us. Can't explain that.
for someone calling others farva, you keep posting exactly how he did. All feels, no evidence, and no actual discussion. We shall see how the puck bounces.
Calgary is all in now. They are in sharks mode. They either get a cup or get saddled with a bunch of long term 30+ contracts
Monahan and a 2025 1st to Montreal for future considerations. He’s been a below replacement player for awhile now, injuries or not.
He was one of the 500 centers Ranger fans have wanted to target over the past couple seasons, so I unfortunately know quite a bit about his fall from grace. His underlying stats fell off a cliff the last two or three years.
