ANGC: "Greg, quite frankly our decision on how to treat LIV golf players boils down to one thing. We don't like you. We've never liked you. And the players in your league have you to thank for never playing in our tournament again "
as a (not) wise man once said "Let's just do it and be legends" Oak Creek in Irvine has become my de facto home course since moving to south OC
40-37, 12 pars, 6 bogeys, 34 putts. (par 71) edit: The state of conditions at this course are indicative of just how bad the drought is here out west. It's a county course (Santa Anita GC) and it's clear they have decided to give up watering much other than the greens and tee boxes. It's the closest course to my house and I used to live in an apartment across the street from it 25 years ago. It's just sad to see.
Just saw a college kid from my club qualified as the 1 seed after stroke play at the US Am. He lost in the first round of the round of 64 to the 64 seed (obvs) in 20 holes. Bummer.
Booked my rounds for my Dallas trip this weekend. Driving up to Winstar Saturday to play the redbud course. Then playing waterchase on Sunday.
I spent a week at Winstar for work back when we traveled. That was a hell of a set up but I played 9 with the HP and an asst there and almost hit them twice so that was fun
It was when my daughter was a new born and I hadn’t played in a while. I think they were both ricochets off of trees but it still wasn’t a good experience.
Ive been lucky enough to go 5-6 times the last few years. I’m not quite sure how the membership structure works but it’s like 250k to join and I think you have to own a home in there too. My college roommate is technically a full member because his mother in law dates a member and because of that his had full privileges. I was with him the first time he played and I don’t think he really believed it but they treated us like kings. no tee times and we usually get at least 3 rounds in during a day. I asked the pro how busy they got and he said it’s always less than 24 rounds a day. Best turf I’ve ever seen in my life. Not a single weed on the entire course. I think that Seminole just hired their super. Without a doubt the best golf day of my year every time we go.
This was the first thing I thought of when I read that. I’m guessing they weren’t directly in front of you. Ha
Speaking of ricochets off trees... One of the guys I was paired with today was a twenty-something with a lot of speed, but not a lot of control. He smoked it 40 yards past me when he centered the club face. On 18, he had 220 to the green after his drive caught some lumber and got knocked down. He hits hybrid and lines it into a tree about 50 yards up. The ball bounces straight back to him and finishes 3 paces from his previous lie. I've never seen someone hit a tree that far away and get the ball returned to his feet like that. To his credit, he just erupted in laughter.
Best one I remember is we had a guy from South America on the maintenance crew my course and had come to FL to try and make it on mini tours etc so he was a good player. 18th hole there was a little tiny ass tree, like think of one that usually has to be held up by stakes until it gets bigger. He smokes a 3 iron right into this thing from 15-20 yards away comes right back at him and gets him right in the balls and dropped him.
Thank you sir, they told us carts-in-time was 7:45 so if we aren’t finished by then we’ll pick up on 18.
