A lot of teachers have bad days and would 100% kill a kid in a bad situation. I’ve seen teachers melt down. Shit happens, the real question is why would teachers be any better than cops? Cops are heavily trained but murder 12 year old black kids for looking in their direction. also Unless it’s Moxin I just won’t immediately assume the teacher is a race soldier/white supremacist hell bent on killing as many black people as possible like cops. I’ll just assume they lost it and pulled the gun
My 8th grade teacher choke slammed a kid thru a table, he 100% would have shot a kid, given the opportunity.
Are teachers better than cops yea simply because they’re not tools of white supremacy. Are teachers less likely to lose their shit in a high stress situation and make a critical Mistake than any other human NOPE and while we may agree on this cops being a gang that likes to harass and kill your average American isn’t a good reason to even be slightly contrarian on this subject
I think most teachers don’t want to carry a gun in the classroom. I’d have to take a long look and any teacher that does. It’s a recipe for disaster. Innocent lives will be lost if that happens.
If they’re going to do it (which they obviously shouldn’t, but maga) there needs to be a time-delay safe that’s got 2FA and is located in a far corner of the room. They must take multiple deliberate steps then wait. Also an alarm and mandatory evac of the kids by other officials before that safe opens. They should also be required to arrive at least 30 minutes early and the weapon should be checked at the building door/bank drawer style window with a security official who will place the weapon in the storage location. And Jesus Christ at the fact that I’m sitting on the shitter doing mental gymnastics to figure out how to limit the damage of this fucking situation.

1. Teachers are human 2. It’s already proven that minorities receive harsher punishment in schools and there’s such a thing as a school to prison pipeline that overwhelmingly impacts minorities. 3. Even assuming that the current crop of teachers wouldn’t be as bad as cops, once you add the ability to carry and shoot someone, the job will become attractive to people who should not be teachers or cops.
A couple of points/clarification to my line of thinking here: - I’m thinking along the lines of not allowing free access to the weapon with children present. I feel like it’s much more likely that we’d need to protect against teacher violence than allow teachers to quick draw on a school shooter. -There wouldn’t be a cop to release it, just idk 30 or 60 seconds to prevent them from being able to just grab a gun and squeeze at any moment. Again, this is all about student safety and not the response to a shooter. School shootings are a problem. At the same time a specific school building being a target in a given school year worked out to 0.004% I think
Better in what way? As people? On average, agreed. Better at taking out a kid with an AK? Not sure why that would be assumed. You have trained officers scared to engage but you think Wayne is going to grab his revolver and go confront a guy with an AK? Fuck no. So there's no upside to having Wayne and Dale bring their guns to school.
Strongly doubt id still be here if all my teachers were armed. I’m an asshat and know I sent a few of them over the edge of putting one in my temple to shut me up.
In sixth grade, the liberal arts teacher for our class lost her mother to cancer and her husband left her in the same month. Most of the male kids in the class picked on her about her dead mother until she cried in class and stormed out. She had to take a leave of absence and eventually quit. Kids are fucking brutal.
I always thought teachers don’t get paid enough to break up fights. No reason to put yourself at risk by physically intervening. So won’t be long till someone tries stopping an unruly situation by popping off a few rounds in the ceiling.
I don’t really know teachers but I’d bet far more would leave their jobs because the asshole football coach who gets to teach English to justify his existence wants to be armed than would take up arms themselves
