The first round of PPP was a giant handout to business owners. Anyone with half a brain knew you would never have to pay it back. - a business owner who had a substantial amount forgiven.
From a buddy of mine that may or may not work in an establishment where Matt Gaetz showed up to eat. (The red is me): Spoiler
The real grift was the firms that serviced the “loans.” My brother knows a guy that made like 10 million in months.
My son in law is a barber. A damn good one so he does really well. His “boss” took out ppp loans and used them all to remodel his kids’ kitchens. Now he is behind on shit and tried to raise my SIL chair fee. He was obviously told to fuck off. It’s fucked up.
The current cost of attendance at Virginia Tech is 27,000. To get a degree he's going to spend $110,000 to send his little precious to an in state school. If he's truly worried about "what about meeeeee" take out $10k in loans and fell happy you aren't burdening your child with 100k in loans when they hit 23
I worked at a bank that made ppp loans and I cannot begin to tell you the stories about the abuse I took from small business owners every day that didn't need this money but were scrambling to secure their portion. They were all afraid it would run out. I had a landscaping company who saw increases in sales in 2020 get a loan for $160,000 forgiven and just just straight up bought 2 trucks with it. A lawyer who only employed his high school aged daughter got 20k. A bunch of churches got 6 figures A company that did IT all remotely got 240k All you had to do for the first round was show your payrolls were the same as your loan amount or higher and you were forgiven. Round 2 of PPP you had to show a decline in sales of at least 1 quarter year over year and all the assholes who cashed in were furious they couldn't get more free money when their business was booming. All this is going on and I have conservatives on my Facebook bitching that people are getting 1000 bucks stimulus. If they only knew.
it really was a crime they didn’t have ties to shrinking revenue among other measures for the first round of ppp. What a ridiculous handout. Business going good? Great! Here’s a large sum of money that you don’t need to pay back! That’s to say nothing of the poorly run businesses that were kept alive by ppp. My main competitor was hugely in debt to their suppliers and was robbing Peter to pay Paul and about to go under before the pandemic and they got a couple million in PPP and fired half their staff anyway
Yea PPP loans would show up on credit reports when doing mortgages and matching those up with the bank statements of the businesses was just alarming. Shocking how much money some of these companies goes. Many got more in PPP than their company had revenue for the entire year.
family friend had a business that had no decline, got ppp and suddenly him and his partner bought new houses. Wonder how that worked.
My brother in law works for a bank and did the same thing. He said it was insane how much money people got even though their business was still doing good.
Recipients of PPP loans in excess of $2M will be audited by the SBA, including whether they qualified in the first place and whether they qualified for forgiveness. Any loan (ie regardless of amount) could be subject to audit within 6 years of forgiveness. Hopefully some of these shady people have to repay the loans eventually.
I don’t really care that some businesses got PPP loans and had them forgiven, especially those that took care of their employees. I mostly just care that they are now bitching that student loans shouldnt be forgiven and that it’s bad for society. Fucking hypocrites.
I was specifically asking why he had to buck the president on loan forgiveness when I haven't found any evidence that would help him more than hurt him. Is this your proof that it is somehow and not that Roe being overturned is really hurting JD Vance which he previously ran hard on and is now slightly distancing himself from? There's literally nothing in that Political article about Ryan's comments.
My kids are going to be a part of the future exploited workforce in America. You aren't doing your part so you get no kickback.
Also eat the corn out of my shit over me having a "melty." The current state of politics and the Democrats decades long unwillingness to play hardball and codify abortion access in addition to a ton of other things the GOP is seemingly able to overturn with the Supreme Court is a huge reason why after my daughter finishes kindergarten we're moving to Canada. I've been able to work with my company who has lots of Canadian employees sponsor a work permit for my family to move up there, hopefully to a country while shitty won't suddenly restrict my daughter's access to birth control when she's older. This year I've watched my mother-in-law die after moving here during the start of the pandemic two years ago, and living with us much of that time, very rapidly decline with lewy-body dementia. I had my nephew who was not even a year older than my daughter suddenly die in his sleep from an undiagnosed thyroid condition and tear up my brother's family. I've had to deal with the fact that I'm still very much not close to my RWNJ family who are guilt tripping us above moving out of the country for reasons they think are dumb. So with all this and the Supreme Court saying it's open season on all civil and reproductive rights it's been one of the worst years I've ever experienced. A bunch of spineless centrist dems "having" to do anything can literally go fucking remove themselves from the earth, I'm absolutely sick of this fucking party beating back progressives only to very slowly adopt their ideas while the GOP does a speedrun at making white males the only people who will have any privilege left in the US.
I'm just fucking with you. Sorry about the personal struggles. It's been an ugly and unfair couple of years
I generally don't care if the government throws money around. Just throw some to me every once in a while
Tell him to contact his representatives and support the bill to expand 529 usage: https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/4103
thats a great way to word it for those who think it’s unfair. Really it’s still less fair than it used to be…
Lawn care/landscaping/pest control companies made out like absolute BANDITS Revenues increased because people wanted to look at a nice lawn while stuck at home, and marketing expenses went down because no door-to-door crews. Just tens-hundreds of millions straight into the pockets of ownership across the board.
Not sure where do post this. We need a healthcare/insurance thread. Welp, looks like we're in the mining business now.
One thing that keeps me from being totally black pilled is a majority of Americans want the government to spend more and do more across the board, not less. Just need to be a little less racist and we'll be cooking
Hmmmm it’s difficult because even if you do reparations for descends of black slaves you still have the same institutional and infrastructural problems in place that caused black Americans to end up where we are. Yeah give everyone a check and let them do as they wish but schooling, healthcare etc should be nationalized for everyone. The entire country would need to change and our political system would need to be restructured( get rid of all the white supremacists in office) for it to have the desired affect. This is something that would require a much larger look at things in order to properly break down but I think u gotta at the very least give a big ass check to the right people but that would just be the very start of why would need to be done to right all the wrongs that have happened in this country since the first slave ships arrived.
yeah money needs to be pulled out of politics for this to happen too. Idk how any “Republican” who claims not to be racist but doesnt think the country has done anything wrong can get past the fact that while families on average have 40x more wealth than black families. Why the fuck do you think that might be?
I think it was in this thread where we had the sidebar on how ridiculous car payments were. So I'm putting this here.
They pay more for car payments than I pay for my house payment. And only one is an appreciating asset.
