Have three way light switches in the office. Several years ago one switch went bad and I replaced it, i admit i never really understood how three way circuits worked, one issue was when I replaced it, you had to leave that switch up for the other switch to work at all. Turn it down and the other switch did nothing. I never worried much about it, since the one switch that had to be left alone was the far away one from how I always enter the room. Well, the other day suddenly nothing worked. I figured it was the older of the two switches. So I picked up a new three way switch and stuck it in, putting all the wires back in the same corners as on the old switch. Well, still had no power. Get out the volt meter, and I'm even more confused by like damn near nothing having 120 volts. Finally i watch a single YouTube video. 15 minutes later I have disconnected everything, determined which wire is the load, which is the line, and which two are the carriers. Hook everything back up per the way the new switches are supposed to be and boom, I'm pretty much a certified electrician now.
I am another version of you in the metaverse where I decide I want to upgrade a switch to a smart dimmer and open it up to find a three way (with no idea where other half exists), try every combination of wiring I can, but ultimately fail and revert to the former switch. In this reality you are a defeated loser. My excuse is that it was really hard to find YouTube of “replace three way switch with no other switch” or anything that seemed to match my circumstance. At least my house has not burned down i guess
Came home from work today, noticed the station wagon was no longer in the dude’s backyard and didn’t see the “roof” part. Thought maybe he changed his mind. Just looked outside and the dude is working in the dark with no light on and the roof is being installed. Currently appears to be hanging over the fence by 2-4 inches. I was tempted to go out and try to talk to the dude but he’s now MIA.
My friend told me I had to wait to alert anyone with the city until it’s done so he can at least see how terrible it looks
tried search on this thread but there are so many discussions inside it's hard to make search function work anyone have any inputs on refrigerators to look for and ones to avoid? our GE monogram (came with house) is about to take a shit. replaced compressor yesterday and still having trouble holding steady temps. I've read that LG has highest satisfaction ratings. only piece of LG I own is our TV. who's resident fridge expert?
Consumer Reports isn't cooperating at the moment but suffice it to say LG dominates the list overall, followed by GE, with a few Whirlpools and KitchenAids mixed in just below the top GEs . Some people have mentioned that foreign brands can be more difficult/expensive to repair, but Everyone seems to agree that Samsung fridges are shit.
swore off Samsung where possible when my 3y/o tv pretty much died. they wanted no part of any type of warranty coverage. fuck that company
Im currently at work but my GF just sent me this picture with “you need to call the city” lol Spoiler
I would not wait until it’s done. That might make it harder to have it removed. If the roof line is over your property line he’s definitely in violation Unless you got a bad survey on your fence placement, if the roof line is over your fence
That was my thought. I figured at least the roof being over the fence now turns it into more than “it looks bad”
The fact it’s over your property line and therefore not in compliance with the property abutment guidelines tells me there is either zero chance he got the project permitted or is way outside the scope of what was approved.
At this point it’s a combo of: - Looks like crap - Probably going to blow directly into my house or collapse and break the fence - Over the fence/going to dump rain into my yard. Probably could have handled it just being an eye sore but the other two factors have officially annoyed me.
Guy should have finished painting his shed before taking on this task. But if the shed is any indicator he will probably quite half way
Can you approach him and let him know his roof is going over the fence? You said he was doing it in the dark, maybe he’s not aware our plans on cutting it or something? Now that there’s an excuse to approach him about it, and not coming off like a dick, I’d ask him. Seems crazy to think he’d put it over your fence on purpose, but people are weird and some have no regard for others.
One day late last week the posts were there so I was thinking oh maybe he’s fixing the fence. Then nothing happened for 4-5 days so I started thinking oh god he’s making a cover for his car. Then I thought ok maybe he’s just doing it for shade like a POS pergola. Then the possible aluminum foil roof showed up on the station wagon.
Yeah my assumption is he wasn’t doing it to be a dick and purposely direct it over the fence. He just has zero awareness/doesn’t care to actually do it the correct way.
I knew before he put that up it’s what was going to be done. I am amazed by how poorly that thing is built.
I think that’s what pisses me off the most. It was like he just randomly was at Home Depot and thought of the idea and started building without planning shit. Between the snow and consistent 50+ MPH wind gusts we have here I just anticipate a disaster.
I called the city more so just to ask about a process of reporting it and also get my GF off my back lol As soon as I mentioned what I thought the end goal was he said a permit would be needed so asked for the address, I assume to check? I told him full disclosure I hadn’t had a chance to talk to the guy and it wasn’t finished yet but figured I’d try to save everyone time. I then mentioned the fact it’s currently over the fence and the potential drainage issue and the guy said “yeah that’s why you need a permit for stuff like this”. So I assume there’s no permit filed. Guess we’ll see what happens. The good thing is it is visible from across the street so one could argue the guy across the street though it looked like shit too lol
If he's dumb enough to think it's OK to run the roof drip over your fence, I doubt he's smart enough to think it was you who called
Haha, I’ve told her a few times the last thing I want to do is be a Karen. Honestly, owning a house takes years off my life due to stress so maybe it’ll just give me an excuse to move when this guy burns my house down.
I’ll go out there as he’s taking it down “you change your mind? I was pumped to see how that projected turned out!!”
The guy I talked to on the phone referred to it as a shack, which cracked me up. Might be most accurate description.
The Hebrew Husker i understand not wanting to be a Karen but fuck this guy. He’s building an ugly piece of shit shed roof that goes over your property line. He’s either an idiot or just inconsiderate. Fuck his shit up
How is your grass looking near the fence? MAYBE it's looking a little dried out and he's trying to help a neighbor out. Be a real shame to shit on a good deed.
We built a shed, without a permit, 4x bigger than that lol. I imagine it was pretty “illegal?” to do so without contacting anybody. But I couldn’t imagine lacking the awareness and concern if it were to be on/near our neighbors property.
Kind of what I talked myself into with this situation. I’m sure even if I talked to the dude he’d just like saw the roof back a couple inches.
That is my thing. I don’t care what you do, but just have a little awareness and pretend to care about people around you.
I personally wouldn't get on that structure to install the roofing panels. Keep us up to speed The Hebrew Husker
Understatement of the year, that shit is def not permitted. He didn't even install the roofing correctly.
