I never saw X. That’s the one based in Austin in the porn industry right? I should prob put that on my list
I disagree but it still looks like a lot of demented fun. Me neither. I was pissed when I waited around for the post credits scene and got bupkiss.
Finally watched Saint Maud. Thought it was pretty well done. Atmosphere of the whole movie was good, really enjoyed viewing the movie through the eyes of an insane person with every once in a while getting a glimpse of what was really going on. Also very effective jump scare when you don’t think it’s that kind of movie, don’t see it coming and they just get you with one. I hate jump scares but had to give it to em on that one Spoiler Maybe I missed it but did it ever tell what actually happened with the patient from the beginning of the movie?
I enjoyed it but don’t think it’s as good as everyone else and was pretty incensed that it won the best A24 movie bracket on RT over Hereditary.
Third movie for Ti West and the X franchise Set in 1985 and follows Maxine still trying to make it as an actress. Super pumped for Pearl to be released this weekend.
Pearl Spoiler That monologue is some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. Fucking blew me away. Also, it’s really weird to see the prequel take itself more seriously. Whereas X was very much Texas Chainsaw (but making light of it), this is Carrie with a mix of Psycho, but only barely making jokes about it. They’re touching all of the bases in terms of influences. Excited to see what the third has in store.
Pearl was definitely solid. But it's a lot different than X. It's more of a character study than it is a horror/slasher movie like X was. Which is not a bad thing, just more a tempering of expectations.
Spoiler Yeah I had no idea she had that type of acting in her. Absolutely incredible. The end cracked me up when they made her not blink and smile for as long as possible. Personally, I thought Pearl was way better than X. Better acted and better executed in general. I’m a sucker for psyche over slash, though. I thoroughly enjoy what they’re doing and am looking forward to the third installment to see where they go with it.
Spoiler They appear to be ticking boxes, which I tip my cap to them for, as it’s been a treat. My guess is that the third installment returns to slasher and has notes of Scream Just a guess
