They all desperately need to find a character. As MJF said they are all paint drying on the wall. They don’t need to turn into Mafia members or Garbage men but find some sort of personality on the mic.
Bryan went to Vince and gained all of that… AEW has yet to develop a single non WWE guy. I know you will point to MJF but he’s the unicorn.
I’m speaking only on the character aspect of guys. They have pushed and developed guys in storylines. Unless I’m missing someone I can’t think of anyone who was bland and now is compelling and some of those names mentioned have been part of AEW from the start.
The list begins, but does not end, with Hangman Adam fucking Page. Go back and watch his match with Jericho at the first All Out. Fast forward to his match with Kenny at Full Gear last year. Continue to say that AEW doesn't develop someone from "bland" to "fucking over like rover." Then go sit in the corner and masturbate to Karion Kross' greatest hits on Youtube.
There's also the team that JUST won the AEW tag titles. A team of two jobbers on Dark that got paired up and took off like a rocket.
The Dark Order started out as goober heels and developed into an act that, at their peak, were some of the hottest performers on the roster. Go back at watch them from late 2019 and compare them to the tag match with Page vs The Elite, and continue to say AEW originals don't develop
Fucking nobody took MJF seriously as a main-eventer/title challenger at All Out 2020, or gave him a chance to win. Today? Everyone is salivating over the idea of him winning the belt.
Bankz, your brain is broken (edited a rant) Sorry your favorite wrestling show is still shit, even with new management.
MJF was this good/the same character when he was in MLW, he's just one of those guys who has had "it" ever since day 1 really
The Acclaimed came in pretty hot with a feud with the Bucks. Then like every new toy got relegated to YouTube and Caster could have gotten them fired for his edgier raps. Good for them making it back.
They were not good in the ring, very botchy. It's taken this long for them to be able to work a match without being carried. They won the titles right as they have hit their peak.
don't get me wrong, I really like The Acclaimed, but they got carried through that match last night too.
Good examples of stars AEW have developed. I’d like to add Britt Baker, Jade Cargill, Wardlow, Darby Allin, Hook, Hobbs, Orange Cassidy, JungleBoy, and Sammy Guevara to the list. You wouldn’t know any of those people if you saw them 4 years ago. All have developed a character and been at/flirted with the top of the card. It’s just such a bad take Bankz. All of those people were homegrown in AEW. That’s pretty remarkable.
Britt, Jade, Wardlow all good calls. Hobbs, Darby, Jungle Boy, OC to me are what they were when they came into AEW. Hook is what? I still don't understand the appeal to this dude. But for argument sake, sure his character has/was developed. If my take is bad based on 3 talents of a company with 100+... ok.
I mean for better or worse the gimmick/character you had on the indies is usually exactly what you're gonna be in AEW, they don't change your name or presentation at all. So in that respect Tony Khan does zero in terms of development. Devil's advocate is that if it got you over on the indies, the AEW audience isn't gonna wanna see that changed, so some people can look at that as a positive.
Speaking of MJF I loved his take on how everyone is worshipping him but without telling people not to like maybe other stereotypical past heels. He doesn’t try to make it so they stop cheering for him. Instead he went to “I’m a god to these people” angle and it’s A+ While still acting as a heel.
you know it’s the same in WWE right? Like Kevin Owens is just a watered down version of Kevin Steen. Dean Ambrose was watered down Jon Moxley. That doesn’t even count the guys they ruined like Brody Lee. Fuck New Day invented themselves and fought like hell to get themselves over despite what WWE wanted
I'm sorry needed to take a second to laugh at the meltdown. Dark Order is a good example from jobbers to mid card act. Hangman is also a solid choice. MJF is who he was on day one. WWE is much improved and really good TV under HHH if you can't admit that you have deep problems or just extreme bias. Weird considering you made a living off that company to know be so against it as it improves.
I mean he did say they would drink his piss and allow him to fuck the wives but he wouldn't because they are fat pigs. The guy is being a heel. The issue is the fans are marks and want to make him something he isn't. This isn't a MJF issue its a audience issue. I think some of cheers would go away with a strong baby face matched against him. I think Mox, Bryan will solve that if/when he actually gets into a program with them and transitions away from shitting on the billionaire running the company.
It just amazes when people refer to guys as WWE guys when all of these dudes had careers at least a decade long before coming to WWE. Imagine calling Chris Jericho a WWE guy. That’s so fucking hilarious
yeah it's crazy people call him a WWE guy when he...spent the vast majority of his career there and had his biggest success
You can't point out amazing acts and give zero credit to the company. It can't be all just the acts who made themselves. Also Brody had a great run in AEW as the featured guy. He also had a good run in WWE as the featured guy. The difference is VKM gave up and TK wouldn't have. And The Wyatt family is by far the best thing Brody was a part of in either company. IMHO...
I mean, you asked for a list and I gave a list. The fact is, you said AEW has never developed any non-WWE guys, which shows your extreme bias. I had to take a second to laugh at such an obviously stupid take and then you doubled down and asked me to provide a list to prove you wrong, so I did. Then you disregarded the list and tried to pass off as a meltdown me answering your request. Sounds like a you problem. And I continue to make a living off of WWE (pro wrestling in general). I don't get paid to say it's good when it's not. I never said the show hasn't improved under Triple H. It has. Nowhere to go but up from Vince's final decade or so. But it's still a poor product.
And don't forget Cody. As part of him joining WWE he wanted to have the same character he had in Japan/ROH/AEW and Vince said OK.
well ya because he died right as he was taking off in AEW. Him not being on the roster the last couple of years is devastating from an entertainment standpoint. He absolutely would be in that Mox/Punk/Jericho/MJF tier of performer
first it was that they wanted to drink his spit, not piss. But wait what? How is it an issue? Why does a heel have to be booed? I think the great thing about his character now is acknowledging and encouraging the cheers in the face of thinking so low of them. I think it's great. The boos don't need to go away for it to work as a character.
Well I was wrong to say none. But to this point they have had a handful that I would agree on being developed and in 3 years of business that's not a large sample. And you dropping 7 post including a rant that had to be deleted doesn't sound like a me issues. But if you feel better passing that blame go ahead. I also think its nuts you would label the HHH run as still being a poor product. I guess that's what makes all the convo fun at the end of the day.
for the record, it didn't have to be deleted: I edited the rant out of the post. Felt like it was needlessly mean when this is still just fake underwear fighting we're talking about Carry on with your passive aggressiveness toward AEW and I'll carry on my with my active snarkiness toward WWE.
As I mentioned what I know for sure is TK probably doesn't give up on him and allows him to continue to develop himself and the group. To what levels? Nobody will ever know. Sure would've been great to see. He was an amazing talent and better human.
