Large swaths of this country watch completely white high school football teams playing completely white high school football teams every Friday. I assure you Bradlee and Caden aren't hurting for carries at the lower levels.
in the modern game who are these white lbs that would otherwise be playing rb if not for racially biased coaches
You wouldn't know him, but this guy I saw on TV named Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in a game once and never sniffed a scholarship.
I mean, yeah 99 percent of the time the “bias” doesn’t matter but you are out of your mind if you think there isn’t a bias against white skill players. The bias is there for a reason, because black people are much better athletes on average, but there is a bias. I’m not complaining, it couldn’t matter less to me, but it’s real.
Anyone denying this is a fucking idiot. Humans are conditioned to take the majority of evidence they see and use that evidence to make future decisions. The vast majority of white people are way less athletic than the vast majority of black people. Athleticism is a key component for certain football positions so you see someone who doesn’t “fit the mold” and you unconsciously make a determination on that. This isn’t a hot take. These people aren’t victims, it couldn’t matter less, but it’s 100 percent a thing.
when you've internalized a white supremacist rhetorical styling and believe it and repeat it that's bad just because there's a stereotype, that again, began with white supremacists, doesn't make it true
Your first post said that white guys have a bias against being athletic. That quote says that Mahomes expected Watson to be athletic.
i think the one of the smart hardworking white and the dumb super athlete was definitely invented by white sports writers two hundred years ago
Not even a little bit. "How fast is this guy?" doesn't seem to have any bias at all. Additionally, aren't white people overwhelmingly the ones who draft, coach, and determine the playing time of NFL players?
*how fast is this white WR we drafted. You can be biased against your own race. Imagine you are a team captain for a pickup game of basketball at LA fitness. There are 5 white people and 5 black people to pick. All the exact same height, build everything. Those white dudes are getting picked last. I’m picking them last. You know why ? Because 95 percent of the elite athletes I see are black.
In a that wild hypothetical - I’m paying attention to who can shoot and dribble when everyone is shooting around or playing 32 before the pickup games start.
Fwiw he said white wr. He made a light hearted joke that played into the stereotype. This is a meaningless tangent anyway. It doesn’t show a bias against white WRs. Stereotypes are not necessarily biases.
You are right, he said wide. But I wonder why he was surprised ? I wonder why Deion was surprised by the dude running a 4.35?
They are almost by definition biases. Bias can be overcome but by believing in a stereotype you are starting from a place of bias.
this isn't what got you push back, this is i'd be curious to see factual support for this this generalized
Read the sports gene. Most African Americans hail from west Africa and west Africans have higher density of fast twitch muscles. https://www.livescience.com/10716-scientists-theorize-black-athletes-run-fastest.html https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25739558/
Race and sport[edit] Epstein explores racial differences in sports performance and examines both nature and nurture arguments for why certain populations (such as Jamaicans and Kalenjin) are overrepresented among top performers in the 100 meters sprint and marathons respectively. Epstein examines the argument that Kalenjin tend to have a body type conducive to distance running in part due to Allen's Rule. He also explores the contribution of growing up and training at altitude, as well as the phenomenon of running to and from school. In the course of his research, Epstein followed geneticist Yannis Pitsiladis to Jamaica, where he explored folklore that Jamaican sprinters descend from a warrior class of maroons. Pitsiladis analyzes DNA in Jamaica, and finds no special signature that links maroons and sprinters, and concludes that the genetic evidence does not support the island folklore. Rather, both Epstein and Pitsiladis place considerable emphasis on the popularity of the national high school track and field championships as part of the Jamaican sprint dynasty. In chapter 10 of the book, Epstein discusses problems with classifying athletes as simply "black," as he notes that there is more genetic diversity within Africa than in all of the rest of the world combined. He refers to work on global genetic diversity and migration from Yale's Kidd Lab to emphasize the point. He also notes that genetic diversity does not break down into discrete races in the way that people often assume.
yep, the best Jamaican sprinters all mostly come from a certain part of the island that was settled by Nigerians. In Kenya the best marathoners come from one valley where the conditions for running and culture are best. genetics and culture can’t be separated. Culture leads to certain genetic make ups based on cultural rewards and that can lead to top performers in those important matters. It’s literally evolution.
note that RACE is not predictive by itself, similar to your other article talking about how it's sport and event specific
Common sense race theory also led to the understanding that Jews were the super athletes of the early 20th century.
I think it gets missed that participation in football is on the decline and increasingly those who still play the game are willing to risk head injuries to participate, as a way out of their current situation. That selection bias in our country means more African Americans play the sport in general.
It's a stereotype, bc a super fast white guy isn't common at all, not a bias. If a white guy can play, he's going to get every opportunity to do so. Name the white RB that was great but never got an opportunity. Black QB's in the 80s was bias.
