This is YOUR fence right? I’m just asking since usually the ‘clean’ side faces out, towards the neighboring property and is often set back a little from the property line. This saga would take quite the turn if it ends up it’s HIS fence and the paneling is hanging over the fence, but still on his side of the property line. It’s possible that since he is anchoring it to the deck, and I don’t see any braces on the house, that this may curtail some code requirements. Spoiler I’m obviously talking out of my ass and don’t have any real knowledge of how these codes are written. I do however love to observe some neighborly drama and watching the world burn.
TBH I have no idea who’s fence it technically is. This is my first house and I got it in 2019 had no idea WTF I was doing. Didn’t anticipate dealing with something this rogue.
Good thing is he has yet to add anymore of the “roof”. Bad news is it’s not dark yet which appears to be his time to work on this. Good news is this thing is clearly visible and looks almost equally as bad from out in the street so maybe one of the non-trash homeowners across the street also will complain.
I’m probably going to come off as a dick here but all of this seems like steps that should be taken AFTER you go knock on his door and ask him the plan / discuss your concerns. Don’t let your woman turn you into the passive aggressive bad guy here. If you go over and he’s a jerk then proceed with karen’ing but likely, if he doesn’t have a plan, you voicing your concerns would lead him to modify his plans. Worst case you find out what kind of person your neighbor is. Spoiler and whether sucking his dick would help
Counterpoint: dumbass neighbor easily could have taken the initiative to discuss it with HH in advance if he didn't want to get reported for a shitty, unpermitted project. He didn't, so let the government do what they exist to do.
This what finally made me snap last year with my terrible nextdoor neighbor, flood light blinking non-stop dusk till dawn. She is fucking spiteful cunt and no matter how many times I tried to bring up issues diplomatically with her, it always end with her yelling at me and then her purposefully making things worse for us. Those windows are the bedrooms. Other shit she did things the past few years: She consistently parked her car for weeks on end in front of my house. We have 2 spots for cars in front of our house and no driveway or garage. She has both and didn't use either of them. She flipped shit when we built a fence on my property (she was using about a 40'x15' area up to the side of our house as her extra side yard) She has upwards of 40 feral cats that just continue to reproduce and shit all over our property She has built cat walks so the cats can scale the fence and get into our property easier I planted clumping bamboo to block out the light and as soon as it got big enough to block some of it, she reached over our fence about 3' and cut it down to fence height. The garage pictured above had no gutters and was overhanging an existing fence and running off onto our property and vegetable gardens. I have since gone to war. Called animal control and have a bunch of the cats trapped, fixed and adopted. She is now on a animal hoarder watchlist. Made friends at Code Compliance and who in turn made her take down all her bright exterior lights and overhangs. Had her car towed multiple times when it doesn't move for 3 days. Pointed cameras at my fence line and informed her if she so much as touches my property, I will report her for trespassing. Some neighbors are shitheads and the best way to deal with them is to be an even bigger shithead. She hasnt fucked with me in a bit.
The key here is you talked to her. Shack dude dude, go talk to your neighbor and not just this message board. Don't be douchebag just cause they may be. Go find out and start cool not adversarial.
Do you think he works at dark so nobody sees him doing it? Like people can't see his handiwork during the day?
I don’t think that’s the case. I said it more sarcastically after last night he was putting the roof on in the dark. To be honest, these people seem a little different. They’re the only people I’ve never really talked to after living here almost 4 years. I’ll wave at them and they just look at me. I guess that’s why I’m kind of struggling with the best way to handle it, knowing I don’t really have rapport with them at all. I get both sides of how to handle it and I’m sure either way there will be good/bad to it. I got a lot of other shit going on right now so it’s causing more anxiety than it should which is kind of why I’m posting about it here.
For the record, I’d be more likely than not to just report to the city. If I had an ounce of confidence that the neighbor would make something that looked good and wouldn’t end up impaled into the side of my home, I might consider negotiating with them. In this case, it doesn’t sound like Mr. Husker has that confidence so I don’t blame him for doing what he did.
That first picture is a video of the flood light blinking. The 80+ year old neighbor lady on the other side of asked me if she should get her .22 and shoot it out the lights. She was having none of it
Don't be a weakass, right? Handle your business yourself first then escalate if you must. Don't go crying to mommy.
The best part about talking to the neighbor is there's a chance it escalates and delivers more value to TMB.
This war would have warranted it’s on play by play standalone post that would have ascended into the posts of Valhalla with a little marketing
Think it’s easier to get ahead of with a pre emergent but the trendy thing I see on lawn YouTube for post emergence is tenacity
Pre emergent in the spring and a few rounds of weed b gon throughout the year and it should start to fade away.
I have an exterior hose spigot leaking from the handle. It’s been a slow leak for some time and it’s gotten progressively worse. Do I need to take it apart to match the washer or can I buy one of the assorted washer packs to get it fixed?
Have the same issue in my house built in the 70s. Asked my plumber the same question. He said that he wouldn't know if that could work until it was taken apart...it may require demoing the brick. He said something to the effect of things not being very standardized back then. Tldr - my shit still drips.
THF I bought a washer kit last year from HD and it did have the right one. If you google it, I bet you will get a narrow list of possible sizes to pick up in case you cannot buy an assorted pack.
lol he finished it last week. Looks about as expected, I’ll try to snap a pic tomorrow when it’s light out. Had some pretty good rain Saturday morning but it was too dark to see how much was being directed into my yard. I have been pretty busy the past couple weeks with starting a new job and had some family in town for a funeral so I haven’t worried about it much. Legit haven’t seen the dude or his car since he completed it so maybe his wife hated it and kicked him out.
Had a wasp nest the size of a basketball pulled out of my yard yesterday. I didn’t get a pic of the actual hive, but it was terrifying. Spoiler
Ok y’all. So we have a kitchen aid dishwasher that is allowing water to enter but the uptake into the arms isn’t happening. I’m new to this but I don’t even hear a pump trying to intake which I would expect if it was simply clogged. My guess is that the pump is toast. Anyone got any experience fixing one of these?
I replaced an evacuation pump on our GE Profile several years ago, it was pretty straightforward with the YouTube video helping me There's a YouTube video for everything
There’s a few things missing but she’s mostly done. Here’s a handful of pictures. Real moving starts tomorrow.
Never been in this thread before, but I started looking at houses a couple months ago and we got a Wells Fargo mortgage rate lock in the mid 4s and submitted an offer about 10% below ask on a house that we really love. With the rate lock expiring soon, I’m sure our buying power will go way down in a month or two and rates will continue soaring. I feel kind of crazy for buying now, but we got the offer accepted because the seller had already moved and bought a new house so we’re going through the whole process now. Not sure if im going to feel great or awful in 6 months based on how prices trend, but looking like we’ll go through with it (mortgage approval formally approved yesterday, inspection this week, etc)
If you really love it, don't sweat it. You buy when you need to, the market will make it right down the road.
First of all, congrats! Buying a home is fantastic and don’t let a silly interest rate suppress that excitement. With that said, owning a home sucks and you will regret doing it. Good luck!
Yeah we looked at the comps in the area and we like our house better than every house that sold for plus or minus 10% in the area in the last six months so we really feel like it’s something we want to move on. We also are getting it below average $ per sq ft of 10 comps I ran that sold in less than 3 months So my theory is that the most house prices will drop in the next year or two will be about 15%, so if we’re really getting a house we love at a decent interest rate and will hold it so that at worst we sell it back in 7-10 years slightly above what we bought it for, worst case scenario isn’t a disaster
My sprinklers run on Wednesday and Saturday. The first zone is right out the window and wakes me up at 5 every time. I finally got into the guts of the system and moved that zone to the end, and went to bed last night feeling like the king of the castle. Turns out I only changed it for one day.
