Definitely not a need, but will be much better for travel (d500 is a tank) & pretty much all the DSLR lens are getting discontinued. Can now set op the d500 on a tripod & stalk pics, while I man the 7ii
Saw what seemed like a dozen Orioles total this morning (and a Bullock's nest). Mostly Bullock's, a couple of Hooded. Some Lawrence's Goldfinches, and a Warbling Vireo. Spoiler Female Bullock's Oriole with a giant bug. Bullock's Oriole nest. Male to the left. Bushtit Warbling Vireo Yellow Warbler
This thing (which I’m assuming is a sparrow of some sort?) just sits in the bottom of one of my bushes all day shitting on my driveway, not caring how close people get to it. Kinda freaky. Can anyone identify it for me? Please and thank you.
Yeah they all look like frail emaciated creatures at that age. Still think House Sparrow. I managed to convince a local wildlife rehabilitator to come pick it up, had to lie about where it was found though. There was no way we could care for it, so idgaf.
Cedar Waxwings are out. Audubon shows them as a year round resident where I live, but I seem to only see them for a few months a year.
Just saw a House Finch with the worst case of avian pox I've ever seen. One of the growths pushed its eyeball out of its socket.
https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/...ide-use-connected-to-grassland-bird-declines/ Depressing read. Had one of our cooperators ask me about putting neonics on one of the properties we rent out. I said absolutely not, even though govt quietly allowed them on our lands during the trump administration.
I want to get a canvas print of one of my California Scrub Jay photos. Which one? Spoiler 1. 2. 3. 4.
https://www.audubon.org/news/the-2022-audubon-photography-awards-top-100?utm_source=pocket-newtab Spoiler
I submitted my Red-tailed / Squirrel photo. After seeing the top 100, I have no idea what I was thinking lol.
Me and a buddy tried doing some birding today. Gave up and went to a bar about an hour into it since it was 1000 fucking degrees. Did see a Lawrence's Goldfinch which is always awesome, never know when one is gonna show up. Spoiler Lawrence's Goldfinch. The yellow patch on the chest means it's a male, but they usually have a black mask. Maybe this is an immature one. Western Kingbird Killdeer Yellow Warbler. Only shot I could get.
Saw some stuff this evening. I'm going whale watching off of Santa Barbara tomorrow; might see some cool sea birds. Spoiler Lesser Goldfinch Allen's Hummingbird (male) Anna's Hummingbird (female) Bushtit
I couldn't catch one on camera, but saw quite a few of these today while hiking coniferous forest in CO. Hard to miss. Western Tanager: Spoiler
Finally went birding again; at the L.A River. Saw a shit ton of Scaly-breasted Munia. I'm very happy with this shot.
Some other stuff I saw Spoiler Great-blue Heron Western Kingbird Anna's Hummingbird More Munia action.
Between EPL coming back and L.A being as hot as the fucking sun, I haven't had the will to go birding in the morning for a long time. I'll try and see if I can spot some migrants this weekend.
Saw cool stuff this morning. Lifer with a Pectoral Sandpiper, no idea what it's doing here. Phainopepla, lots of warblers moving through, and a bunch of Wrens. Anna's Hummingbird Bushtit Warbling Vireo
I got a photo sequence of something crazy. Spoiler Great Blue Heron blowing a fish out of the water when it strikes.
