I get it if you are just off the boat and think man I knew we were bad but I didn’t think we were this bad! Those are the folks they will try to make amends. The ones who remain loyal to mother Russia and believe they are on the right side of this can fuck off. I know Russians in both camps.
I don’t think so (but could be wrong). Too much ground of dug in positions along with tens of thousands of reinforcements (although shitty conscripts) will make it very costly for both sides. I think they push Russia across the dnipro in Kherson and then sit pretty. the winter hold point is less clear cut in the east
lol firing off a rocket followed by lots of fuck yeas, middle fingers, and high fives standing in the open followed by lots of return fire and oh shits chads gonna chad
Will be an interesting strategic decision whether to consolidate gains and use winter for a number of things (rest, additional western arms, try and create an international effort including India and China to negotiate peace) or to press the momentum on a dead in the water Russian army, who could use a 3-4 month timeout to re-trench, resupply, and develop essentially a new army.
Is there a good resource for the losses Ukraine has taken? Specifically elite units that lead offensive actions?
Nothing reliable. Safe to assume Ukrainian losses are under counter and Russian losses over counted for the most part. there are some decent places tracking visually confirmed equipment losses for both sides but I don’t know of a good one for human casualties.
general assumption is things slow down for the winter. That said who the hell knows? With the logistical issues Russia is having (can’t find 1.5m winter uniforms) the Ukrainians May have a good advantage in the winter and can press that.
Historically, ill equipped armies do not fare well during winter campaigns in Europe, so I think it will go as well as you expect
Long thread, but this is the cliffs of it NATO and the US basically formed and trained the ukraine military, and it shows.
I could see this turning into a humanitarian mission where Ukrainians are having to go rescue poorly trained and equipped Russians. All of this combined is giving me a nervous feeling that Putin is gonna do something irrational.
I don’t think there is a version of this where Ukrainians rescue Russians en mass (could certainly be one offs). A Russian Casualty to the elements is just as good as one to a bullet….maybe better because it is risk free and no spent munitions.
Perhaps the UN could send humanitarian aid to the Russian soldiers fighting an illegal war in a country they invaded?
SIAP but I got caught a few pages behind and figured this would help in the discussion about how Russian citizens let Putin/this regime get so far down the road to authoritarianism.
Attention ‼️ We call on everyone to observe the regime of silence until the actions of the units of the Armed Forces are not reported by official sources. Premature leakage of information, dissemination of data about a military operation without the permission of the command can threaten the life and safety of servicemen of the Armed Forces.
Don't think it'd take much to send 50,000 Poles with blood in their eye over the border; they don't need to hit the depot, they just have to hit Poland.
It would be so smart for Russia to strike an actual NATO country on their soil, just such a well thought out military strategy.
