I completely agree but at the same time, against fucking MTSU you should be able to run basic concepts and score 50+ regardless of injuries or anything else. Instead we got remedial level shit that narrowed the skill gap to almost nothing and gave us the worst loss in program history.
Sure, but if we are basing it in a vacuum in terms of talent of opponent and final score. It has to be this game.
I’d rather have a couple 3 and outs due to shitty OL play/scheme and 35PPG than whatever this shit is
I wasnt being antagonizing, just making fun or Mario. His obsession with being physical was a running joke on our board as well.
run blocking has been a struggle with designed attempts up the gut largely getting stuffed regardless of competition, I'd imagine we'd sling it all over mtsu opening things up though everyone's pushed this defense around save VT
Top four running backs injured, top two receivers, best tight end, best OL….and seems like everybody is having “setbacks” in their recoveries Why is Feld not under fire right now?
weird bye week success is typically a strong indicator of a very good coach does not jive with what our Oregon friends have told us
Will your Miami hurricanes break their bye week curse? Or will Wario’s perfect off week preparation plan come out on top? Find out at 4pm on espn2
If you find a duck fan that says Mario is a bad coach or a guy who is going to fail they just aren’t on the level. He’s an A+ Program builder, recruiter so on and so forth. Cristobal and Mirabal are the ones deciding the week to week game plan and constrict whoever the OC is and what they want to do or what they don’t want to do. That isn’t conjecture on my part that is what we know to have been the case during Mario’s time at Oregon. So it really doesn’t matter who they bring in after Gattis probably gets nudged out after this season. MC has this blindside where he wants to the biggest baddest team on the field at all time and he believes the only way to prove that is to shove people around in a pretty boring way on offense. Hes going to turn that roster around. He’s going to win games at Miami (a lot of them) but until he gives up real control of some parts of the operation - that ceiling is going to be pretty firm on where he takes Miami relative to what the stars on the rosters say they should go.
He’s one of the highest paid coaches in college football. When you accept a salary like that you except it with the understanding that you should beat bad teams and compete for championships at the conference and national level. Losing to MTSU and not even being able to generate offense with the current roster doesn’t give me any faith in your abilities as a coach to move a program in the right direction. Don’t care what he did before, ask Nebraska how that worked out for them
Listen if Nick Saban gave up on the ground and pound bullshit football, maybe as a coach you should consider doing the same. He's the best at what he does for a reason. That man doesn't even bring in white unathletic QB's anymore and he's at fucking Alabama
I don’t disagree with you at all. That was about as bad as it gets against MTSU. Never had a loss quite like at Oregon but in his first season with Herbert we took like a 30 point loss on the road to an Arizona team that was in horrible shape from a talent perspective. Not the same as the MTSU deal - but he’s not immune from laying some nasty stinkers as he builds a program back up.
Sure I didn't expect him to win a damn thing this year, but to get crushed at home by a dogshit team like MTSU is completely fucking unacceptable. I promise you the MTSU coach wouldn't lose to fucking MTSU with the Miami roster. What do you think those bull gators would be doing right now if that had happen to their new coach? You wanna get paid like a big dog you can't be going out there doing shit like that. That's why Manny lost his fucking job
I'd say the biggest issue that I can see so far with Mario is that his style as a HC has "worked" outside of Saban/Kirby/Dabo/Day just as well as anyone in CFB the last 4 yrs, and that going to the Shoe and throttling Ohio St on both lines of scrimmage and winning 12 games and a Rose Bowl adds to the hubris that his system is the right way of doing things even if the current roster is clearly struggling with it. I doubt it changes anytime soon, and based on recruiting and who we have committed on both lines, if those kids sign and pan out it will probably work just fine. Our fanbase sees that we have like 45 four stars on the roster and ignores that 35 of them were kids who didn't even crack the top 200. There might be 10 kids total we beat out the big boys for. Richt and Manny recruited classes full of low end 4 stars and people would point to the blue chip ratio and say Miami has plenty of talent to win. Like 1 in 25 of our low 4 star kids have even made the NFL over the past 10 years but everyone wants to solely blame scheme and gameday coaching when we are neck and neck with the UVAs and Iowa Sts of the college football world in producing legit NFL talent since Richt showed up. Talent acquisition is really what got Richt fired and the 2019/2020 portal classes covered up how shitty a job Manny did bringing in HS kids who could contribute, especially on defense. Manny missed badly on the portal last yr with his evaluation of Jermaine Johnson and took DeAndre Johnson over him and in the end that might have been what got him fired a year earlier than what was trending. The current upperclass roster is as bad from a talent standpoint as its ever been, even during the probation years. There is not one single kid on offense who played against MTSU in the Jr/Sr class with a draftable grade better than late day 3, outside of the QB who has the yips AND Mario admittedly missed out on the portal WRs they wanted to cover up the roster issue there. The defense has 1 kid in the Jr/Sr classes who could make the league. I'm not excusing the loss to MTSU, but when 90% of your roster is going pro in something other than sports like the team you are playing AND you turn the ball over 4 times, I'm not surprised it happened.
Mario changed the game with oregon recruiting expectations after a LONNNNG stretch of having the same program coaching staffers who developed well, but didn’t put in enough effort with recruiting. Both under bellotti and chip Kelly staffs. I was quite excited when Mario was hired under Taggart bc of his recruiting rep and he delivered on many fronts (sans QB and RB lol). We “lucked” into Mario stepping in when Taggart left for FSU, and he had some initial key wins with Herbert, rose bowl, etc., but for a program that requires offensive identity, that never happened. At least, wrt what’s needed in the modern era. The hope was that he would out-talent other programs through recruiting, but that didn’t happen and isn’t enough when you’re a shit coach and control freak. He assembles mercenary staffers who can recruit, he controls and will eventually burn them out….save for his closest guys.
lol bruh go check page 1of the Diaz is hired thread We ALL knew he was gonna be cheeks way to go Nostradamus lmbo
Mario and UM will be fine in the long run but y’all lost to MTSU. That requires some introspection. Just like the Gators almost losing to USF has us hating the defense right now. Our upperclassmen class is week to but that’s because of the covid year making someone like Richardson and Gervon Dexter technically sophomores. Plus Mullen sucked at recruiting. The players on UM that I would trade for at the moment were all recruited by Manny. Granted he got lucky it was a covid year and visits were limited.
feel free to post them in here. I’m sure you predicted it exactly. I’ll wait I’m right way more often than im wrong. You keep that sunshine if you want you’ll be in here in 2 years bitching up a storm and the cycle will begin again and you’ll be making this same post again after the next bum loses to some d2 squad with high school players with that said if he turns out to not be a complete fucking fraud feel free to quote this and call me out
O yeah Miami is fucked. I said the other day if this doesn’t work out it’s a program killer. Tying themselves to cristobal and not Kiffen was stupid but hey it is what it is.
you don’t post anything other than to yell at clouds AFTER a loss your only insight is for us to run a “spread” offense, which is an easy thing to say but how many points would a “spread” score when our main pass targets are Redding (who can’t catch), Brinson (who can’t get open and is slow) and Mallory (who’s can’t do any of it). RB 1 and 2 from preseason are done for the yr, RB 3 fumbles and or gets hurt every game, RB4 is an Ole Miss transfer who can’t catch and weighs 179 lbs soaking wet and RB5 is a fatty who is slower than half our DL. the idea there’s some magical scheme that would make 83 0 and 12 into legit P5 pass targets is just dumb. None of those cats made plays last yr in a spread, why would they now? I’m a huge Kiffin fan and said in this thread he was the better short term hire for the next 1-2 seasons but I’m realistic to know his O would struggle big time with this group of current pass catchers
Ignored the rest, because clearly you have an issue with me, and you don't give a shit about any opinion I give. The Feelings mutual, we'll revisit this in a year. Until then, we can agree to disagree. Seasons over either way. Also remember, you sound exactly like Hoosier when he talks about me. So if that's you wanna be in bed with, feel free.
Worst case is that you have Zook on steroids and just have to have a coach come in with a scheme that takes advantage of the players. Also y’all almost hired Sean Lewis. So it’s not like Mario can’t identify good OCs.
As CF3234 pointed out Miami is stuck with this shit for 5-6 years whether they like it or not and if it doesn't work out Miami football is dead. So let's hope it does I hope in two years there's a thread made by Gritty Badger talking shit to me for being wrong.
Nobody is ever dead in college football if there is a shred of desire. Although I don’t know how drastic your definition of dead is.
CaneKnight is armchair quarterback/told you so extraordinaire. He’ll be nowhere to be found if/when the program wins
man if in 10 weeks Mario doesn’t sign the top 125 kids he’s got committed right now I’ll be right there with you because that’s the only reason he’s getting paid what he is
