You think Ricky Starks is lacking in charisma? I think Hobbs has more physical charisma (call it presence if that fits better), he's obviously not a dynamic promo or anything but he has a cool factor. I think they both do.
I like Starks but he's had one good promo that I remember ever. He came out a couple weeks later and basically gave the same promo and it fell flat. I wouldn't say either is head and shoulders above Garcia or Yuta. Starks Garcia Hobbs Yuta I dont think any of them have such great in ring presence to make up for their lack of mic skills.
A few things. 1) I think lumping Garcia in with Yuta is wrong. I think Yuta is just flat but I think there's something to be had with Garcia. He's not overflowing with charisma but his promos are believable and with more reps, I could see him getting good. 2) It isn't bad to sometimes just have great wrestlers on a wrestling show. 3) I think you've vastly over estimating at least Hobbs and Page at the very least when it comes to charisma. 4) we've watched WWE for 20 years and complained how it sucks to see the same matches over and over again. Not having Jade on every week is a good thing. Not having Hobbs on every week is a good thing. Its good to have diversity week to week in who is on TV so the audience doesn't burn out on guys/story lines.
Does Kevin have experience commentating? Should have got rid of Byron too, but at least he's off the table.
Pretty much we’ll agree to disagree on all of those but in regards to 4, if you’re gonna cycle talent and keep them off screen for weeks at a time, why make an exception for 2 of the most bland members of the roster?
I like this wrestler/entertainer storyline and Garcia fits into it. He doesn’t need to be a big talker, pair him with Danielson and you have something. I love the story they told with Yuta but he really doesn’t fit the badass BCC stable. The main issue is there isn’t enough story time and Rampage needs to be a better extension of the product.
I believe it was the Mac Mania pod where they made a point that really resonated with me. And that was AEW has to many top tier guys that lead factions. But the members of those factions feel like jobbers vs solid mid carders that might break out. And a lot of guys who have sort of established themselves as mid card talent aren’t really being used on weekly TV instead you have TK who’s obsessed with getting ROH on tv so we get a bunch of people i and many others already rejected back on our screens with no real change to characters, presentation and because AEW is the watermark we should now care. AEW will always or most weeks give us great wrestling. Right now we aren’t getting good storylines or much character development. And they have cut bait on things that set them apart from WWE (rankings, no rematches, no random title matches) and now give us rematches galore, jobbers getting title matches with zero build and championship contenders matches. I have no problem with Yuta and Garcia trying to be developed but do I have to also have Jay Lethal, Dutt, Sighn… just too many turn the channel talents on the show. Right now. Hope the suspensions end soon or the start putting guys like Miro on TV.
Also aren’t most stables built around one guy with the rest being mid card guys? Even in AEW of the stables I can think of you have MJFs group and Jericho’s group like that (Jericho’s prior groups weren’t like that) but the elite aren’t like that, the blackpool combat club aren’t like that
I like Lethal, especially if they continue down this road of him separating from. Sanjay and Satnam. And I fully understand trying to establish ROH and its talent to a more national audience because it was very niche before. But all the belts has been too much and muddied the waters of the "competitive" landscape they tried to create with OG AEW.
The rankings were always a joke though so I have no problems with them getting rid of that. But even if the suspensions never happened, there's really no reason for a guy like Miro to not be getting some TV run. TK needs to just start letting contracts expire and not resigning some talents instead of resigning bums like Hager. Unless Hager has some backstage role he is doing well that I am not aware of, that guy is a complete waste of money and the only "logical" explanation for having resigned him is because he is Jericho's boy, and I am using "logical" pretty loosely here. Also, viewership fell off a cliff four different times last night and every quarter dropped in viewership, though about half the quarters were pretty stable with the previous quarter: after the MJF match - not surprising, he's quarters always draw it seems after the women's match! - which surprisingly stayed pretty even with the #s for the non-MJF quarters of the first hour, but surprised it dropped so much when it led into the Acclaimed segment after the Acclaimed - which is not surprising given what was left on the card and then for the main event/15 minute over run Nice to see the women's matches not die in the ratings anymore. Will be interesting to see how long TK continues to stick by Daniel Garcia with his current character given his main event matches always die in the ratings. I like Garcia's future but his current work isn't translating into tv viewership. He's a perfect example of a guy who has a potentially very bright future but needed more time developing in a smaller role so he could step into a bigger role as a much more polished performer. Like turn the clock back 10-15 years and drop Daniel Garcia into ROH and I could easily see him being a top guy in ROH for a few years before spending a couple years or more in NXT.
Well maybe the ranking were not quite ALWAYS a joke, but when they added secondary singles titles it just became a complete useless mess. Guys would be ranked top five but weren't top 5 for the AEW title because the rankings were also for the TNT title. At least it made some sense when it was a ranking for one belt. If they were going to stick with it, they should have had a separate ranking for each belt. For example, after Wardlow beat MJF at the PPV, he was ranked #1 or #2, but it was for the TNT title, while guys ranked lower than him were higher in the pecking order for the AEW title. It didn't make any god damn sense.
"Tony Khan wants to make Rampage feel like a big deal again" or something to that effect. So he books Varsity Blondes vs. Nese and Woods lol
I just saw this. Apparently she was married to Wesley Blake. she was 30 and it seemed sudden. wonder what happened.
Holy crap at that drop for main event. Looks like MJF is the draw, TK may want to start saving him for last.
the timing was weird last night. the main event started at like 9:53. I didn’t understand what was happening until I looked at the guide and realized they had a 15 minutes overrun.
I never post in here but, I got a mystery shirt from prowrestling tees this week and it was Punk. Makes me think they are having trouble moving them.
And you know Dave wrote all this without a hint of irony. His fucked up brain just let those words run wild, a stream of consciousness from a living, mildly autistic, encyclopedia
