Yeah, he's cerebral. Comes off as potentially autistic/savant to me. Furthest I would imagine from papa coe. He makes no excuses for it or even really references it.
S-town. Shit town. It was famous a few years ago and probably already covered, but worth a mention again. I just listened to it The pay off/ending is kinda shit, honestly, but the ride is worth it anyway. Small Town Alabama eccentric reaches out to NYC/Serial journalist about small town corruption/murder. Becomes a mystery revolving around said eccentric involving a separate death. Well done, no shitty personalities or tons of ads. Will admit the ending kinda sucks, but the ride is worth it
Same. Huge let down. Loved eps 1-5~6. But just a huge fucking deflated balloon at the end. Still worth the listen for the build up before said shitty let down.
I'm not a huge military history guy but I've been recommended this so many times I'm ashamed of myself. Repeat, military history bores the fuck out of me. Still?
They actually do a good job of telling the stories imo but the appeal is that it's a bunch of ex military guys talking about militaries doing dumb shit. I guess it could he called a comedy podcast? I think it's hilarious but the humor is very dark
I'm really, really loving 'youre wrong about'. Same vein and oeuvre of the stalwarts of brb or the dollop. Apparently, she's more 'famous' and her pod is killing it. She identifies as a feminist, but she, to me, is amongst the most even-keeled observer/participants of any podcast I've ever heard. Fun, conversational, educational. Easy listening
Hate to make you repeat yourself or circle back, but military shit bores me to tears. Still something in it for me? Fuck it. Love history. Sorry for asking twice. We're cool
Montclaire de Haviland listen to their series on the Russian invasion of Afghanistan if you want to try one. I liked it enough that I listened to it twice The co-host also matters a lot for me. Nick #1. Francis #2.
lions led by donkeys: i've never laughed harder at a podcast than when they explained how soviet conscripts figured out how to get drunk apparently every industrial chemical in the soviet army was alcohol-based. these motherfuckers figured out how to get drunk off of the FUCKING RADAR COOLANT of this gunship brah
Name P. Redacted The Knowledge Fight eps where they go over space Sasquatch is some of my favorite podcasting ever. It’s so awesome
I love when Alex gets a caller who doesn't agree with him and Alex just kind of turns their volume down and talks over them Or when he gets a simple question from a caller that is legitimately curious and he can't answer. I listened to one where the dude asked if DARPA stood for and all Alex could mumble out was "advanced research"
Got a 5 hour drive ahead of me after work today. Haven’t listened to a good true crime podcast in awhile. Is the Trojan Horse series from Serial any good?
I dont but it definitely seems worth it. They get me every time because they'll put out a patreon ep on their main feed. It shows a full length episode. Like 45 min or whatever. Then I play it and it ends up only being a few minutes. Idk how they do that but it's so frustrating because the topic is always interesting. I just listen to too many podcasts to start paying for more of them.
I want to pay for Lions but I want to hear Nick. Apparently he is in Korea and his military job is literally cook. This means he cant do the podcast. Liam sucks.
Oh the one about the house fire arson in DC - was good. Trying to remember the name. Something hours 22 Hours https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wtops-american-nightmare-series/id1461511691
Just find a podcast that sounds interesting. If it's not long enough, listen at .5 speed. Boom. Problem solved. Got any more brain busters?
The last two/three episodes they’ve basically been screaming at and talking over each other any time Alex tries to make a point about a souther team and Godfrey needs to let him know he’s a local. Maybe it’s just their banter but it seems to have reached a hostile point to my amateur ear.
If youre talking fiction, I used to really enjoy Knifepoint Horror. I haven't listened to any of the episodes from the last couple years, but I assume they're still good.
They both can be a bit much at times. It also doesn't help that Alex seems to believe damn near every stereotype about southerners imaginable. Godfrey is much better at solo shows imo.
True. But I do believe Alex is a bit naive about the world at times. He's had some head-scratching moments on the pod imo
Alex is at his best directing traffic, rather than formulating deep thoughts on college football. I like him but I view him as the “host” and Richard and Godfrey as the talent if that makes sense.
I kind of see the "host" role as a revolving door at times. But yes, for the majority of episodes Alex is the host.
“Spooked” it’s a partner podcast of Snap Judgement. There are some really good, non-fiction, spooky stories.
