I mean we could look right at home, we have a rare earth facility in California that has been moth balled for quite a while. We have a world class copper deposit in superstition Arizona.

We do this constantly, oh we won’t mine drill etc in the US but we’ll send it out elsewhere, even though it’s better to do these things in the US due to our environmental standards compared to the ROW.

That's why we do it elsewhere. Because it's cheaper because of our standards. And also we don't like to shit where we eat. The world's NIMBY.

yeah i won't disagree with that. more profit to be made using 3rd world labor elsewhere though, and unfortunately that's all that matters

Yea and that needs to stop. We need to have our own solar production facilities that run on nat gas rather than coal in China. We need to allow hydroelectric transmission lines to run to the north east. We need to allow nat gas pipelines from applachia to Boston so they stop burning fuel oil in the winter. We need to stop closing Indian point nuclear facility in NYC only to watch emissions rise the years after.

It doesn’t have to be that way and I’m optimistic about what I’m seeing start to grow. IRA was a step forward in this regard, the DOE is looking at growing the US’s nuclear and uranium enrichment facilities.

Pipe is not the same as poly silicon production/solar panel production and wind turbine blades/turbines

also most of these companies are American (3) or US allies (Europe and Japan)

again not the same as one country that we are not friendly with dominating the supply chain

I wonder if this has to do with ocean temps (I didn’t click on the article), I know the area along california coast was colder than normal this year and I thought I heard Alaska was warmer than normal

Cool, Canada embracing nuclear now. Nice to see the tide changing. Will be interesting to watch to see if they can complete the first SMR by 2028 like they say. Not that it matters, even if it’s delayed it’s still a smart idea.

I did not post but immediately cringed when I saw a couple posts I liked.

It is a true gift that we are allowed to continue to learn as we age, if we choose to do so. It is a cruel joke that we are also allowed to be reminded of and also remember what abhorrent shitheads we once were. That is if we chose to keep on taking in new info.

While generally true, global warming and its effects, were pretty much universally accepted by the scientific community in uh…. 2015.

Yeah, I am pretty sure I covered that. I chose to learn a lot about the topic and the scientific community’s take on it between 2015 and now.

Sorry I was not keenly aware of everything you were in 2015 Buns , I will try and do better for your sake.

Asia as a general region getting into nuclear will be great as a lot of their current power generation comes from coal.

Can’t wait to see exactly how O&G lobbyists get this potential buried for 20-30 years! It will happen, how is the unknown.

Burying it will be a breeze, not many people will know what it means so O&G lobbyists and politicians they own can say whatever they want and people will buy it. They’ll call it an unproven science, they’ll say that we don’t know enough about it to ensure it’ll be safe and the media will play along with it.

    Also, herp derp Chernobyl.

We currently have like 300 coal power plants. I bet that in 50 years we are down to fewer than two dozen.

A large portion of them being in deregulated markets will force closure quicker, as capital investments wont have that guaranteed % from the rate payers.

Good, so the parts of Southern India that are passing 120 degrees and will largely be unlivable in the near future can just be solar fields.

I'm not sure how it is in France and the article implies that this happens some, but any more direct and confrontational approaches got beat out of the US environmental movement using terrorism as a designation to fuck these people's lives forever
