Just got a text from a friend at the Griffins. Berggren got boarded and left the game, apparently its getting out of control there. Hopefully he's okay long term.
Counting Ras as a best player now? Amazing it seems like he's been long written off, but he's only 23. Last 3 months of last season he had 11 goals in 36 games, had a good preseason and now 1 goal 2 assists opening night. May turn into a solid middle 6 guy
Isn't the cap going up somewhat significantly in the next few years? If Larkin is an $8M a year guy with this cap, isn't it possible he's a $9M guy under the cap in 2-4 years when it's gone up a decent amount?
I always try to look at these deals as a percentage of the cap when the deal was signed. So yes, an 8M hit now may be equivalent to a 9M deal a few years down the road.
I’m convinced that Kasper, Berggren, Edvinsson, AlJo, and Wallinder will on be on the roster next year. Couple that with Seider, Raymond, and Soderblom and that’s a hell of a youth movement.
How so? Their competition are Maatta, Hagg, Oesterle, and Lindstrom, none of whom have contracts for next year. It’s Seider, Hronek (if we don’t trade him), and Chiarot, plus 4 others. They both will have 2+ years of pro hockey under their belt, playing in all situations.
Yes, but the teams have known a shark increase was coming since last Summer, they just didn’t know the specific amount. So I am not sure it’s relevant here. Ultimately my opinion means nothing when it comes to Larkin’s next deal, but it’s important to remember that Yzerman let Stamkos walk right up to July 1 because Steve made him a deal he felt was fair and wasn’t going to budge off that offer. Ultimately, Stamkos blinked and ended up back in TB without talking to other teams. This was at a point where losing Stamkos would have theoretically set TB back years buy Yzerman didn’t give a shit. And this is a HOF caliber player we are talking about. That’s why I don’t see Yzerman budging just because the cap increase was publicly reported.
He was yesterday. That entire line was great and they were rewarded with a shot to preserve the lead. Blash would have stopped the game to ask if he could trade for Helm so Helm could be out there.
I agree on Berggren and Edvinsson, but the others I’m not sure about yet. Kasper seems more likely than not to make the team though because he’s a stocky kid who plays a NA style game already. I think Maata ends up re-signing here when the dust settles. He’s a very useful player and he won’t break the bank. That would give us five D under contract for next season, with three on the left side. If Maata can play the right side, that would certainly open things up for Johansson or Wallinder, that’s for sure. I think we end up packaging a few prospects to bolster the roster in other ways though.
My dark horse rookie to make next years roster is Carter Mazur. As of today I presume that he would return to Denver to be Captain, but if he has a big year (already has 4 goals in 3 games) I could see us signing him and letting him play some games in DET or GR this season. He would have a big head start to making the team.
Looks like Bert took that right off the hand. Wouldn’t be shocked if it’s broken, which would suck for him and us. And also Berggren if he’s out after that hit.
