(Watching San Jose and Carolina) Not sure why infractions after the whistle aren’t penalties. Aho scores a goal, high sticks Karlsson in the face, no call. What’s the difference from during the play and after the play?
So apparently Toronto’s third goalie got hurt last night. Looks like they might be signing a guy to a PTO if Murray can’t dress.
They have six hours, they can’t get a marlies goalie to the game? Edit: looks like both are playing Toronto today.
Just have to see if anything else comes out from that account. Considering the last few months with hockey Canada stuff nothing would surprise me. League can’t do anything if the person won’t participate in investigation.
I think the NHL handled it very well for once. Immediate suspension, investigation leads to nothing. Nothing else to really do. Not saying hes innocent but there is nothing to say he is guilty either
Nothing else they can do. It was a 1 off tweet from a brand new account. They tweeted at it from the main NHL account trying to get a response and got nothing back. They can’t really go full ohhaithur and hunt down the IP address because that’s an invasion of privacy.
I’d wait longer than 48 hours for a response. Because if she comes out publicly now and it ends up being real, the league is going to look asinine.
That’s honestly a great point. But at the same time, this became a pretty public story. If she was interested in saying more, it shouldn’t take that long to respond to the NHL and set up a meeting. The odds she “missed” the notification are really small.
Well I think a lot depends on how much investigating they actually did. Assuming they did their due diligence seems silly.
If she’s going to respond, it would be prudent for her to lawyer up first. That’s inevitably going to take some amount of time. What’s the correct amount of time here? I’m not sure. But just a couple days feels like being quick to exonerate. And this sport is not in a position where it should be quick to exonerate sexual assault right now.
New Jersey’s Vanacek knocks net off the pegs, face off at the far blue line. NHL needs to figure out how to quickly get the calls right. They have the technology, use it.
I’m sure there was some pressure by the PA for them to have something in order for him to still be suspended. It’s hard to keep him suspended if the only accusation is from an anonymous Twitter account that didn’t cooperate and there’s no current legal action being taken. I think if it were a criminal or civil matter it’d be a different matter. It’s not like the NHL can subpoena Twitter to find out who’s behind the account.
It is, but in a legal/CBA sense, the NHLPA has a point. You can’t suspend someone because of a random anonymous twitter post. If that’s the standard, some psycho fan could create a fake account and get McDavid suspended the night before a playoff game on completely fictional accusations.
100% agree, but the zero transparency is a bad look given the leagues current issue with this exact subject.
Investigate how though? The only way to hunt this account down is to ask twitter for her IP address (which they won’t turn over) and then illegally trace the IP to find the device that made the tweet.
Her not cooperating with league investigators doesn’t seem like enough to proclaim his innocence after a couple days. If I were the NHL I would allow a bit more time for things to play out given their current widespread sexual assault issues.
They didn’t say he was innocent. They said they couldn’t corroborate the story because they can’t. They also couldn’t wait much longer because the NHLPA was certainly threatening a grievance.
Exactly my point from earlier, how much did they actually dig for info, that should be completely transparent but it isn’t.
