Quitting sounds terrible. What else would I be doing at 5:30 every morning? That's strong work, my man. At 41, I'm just trying to add 5-10 pounds per year. 50?! Sheeeeeeiiiitttt....
happy to see him lifting things again, and excited for the online boys to voice their outrage over him lifting at his home gym.
I am going crazy not being able to do anything other than walk. Eric The Viking and Hoss Bonaventure what did you guys do when you fucked up your bicep? Did you adaptive lifting? Just cardio? Going for my MRI on Wednesday but I am going nuts right now. TIA
Just did cardio and legs. I didn’t want to lift with just my other arm/side as I didn’t want it to get bigger than the other side if that makes sense. I’ve torn both biceps so hit me up if you get bad news.
Don’t use it until you get the MRI results. Even if it’s nothing don’t take the chance in making it worse. Put it in a sling so you won’t accidentally use it. When I tore my left bicep before my wedding it was fine but I kept it in a sling other than in pictures just so I wouldn’t use it.
I can’t do shit with it or it swells/tightens up and you see the huge knot. Pushing a stroller the other day and it looked fucked. Took groot for a walk and had leash in my right arm and he yanked a little and I thought I was gonna die. Don’t even want to ride my peloton right now because I don’t want to put to much weight on that arm.
Bet we see him bulk up like 25-30 more pounds and compete again(looks around 350 now) Sadly he probably will never do WSM again but hopefully Arnold’s or Rogue Invitational
Daniel Ocean Similar to this, but I tore one of my tricep heads on my left arm, no biceps tears (so far).
I believe there’s some data that shows unilateral work on the non-injured side induces some sort of sympathetic response (probably wrong word) on the injured side and maintains hypertrophy better than not working out at all. Pretty interesting stuff. The body is wild.
Yeah don’t use it if you can. The sling was given to me on the first one as a reminder and preventative measure so I wouldn’t use it.
Ease into it. Your body went through a trauma and can’t recover as you typically could. Go a little lighter and cut a set or two then try to ramp up
I’d just use same as normal. I didn’t lift at all when I had both injuries though. Just did cardio and used machines for legs.
I’ll probably not do anything more than walk until my MRI and see what they say. It’s really depressing though. I’ve never been injured like this and it has made me think way too much about my mortality and how no matter what I (like everyone) am getting older and Father Time will eventually end me.
I second this. Like I said above I didn’t lift with my non injured arm until the injured arm was healed and ready to roll, but I wouldn’t try and go crazy. It’s not like you’re getting paid for lifting/physique so it’s not like it’s that important. It all comes back
You’ll be fine. It’s sucks if you gotta get surgery for anything but I’m serious when I say it snaps back quick. My right one tore last July and I just took it easy getting back into it but I’m lifting more now than when I did when I tore it.
The real concern I have is why haven’t you been in the hack squat machine or squatting with the SSB 3x/week?!?!? Tree trunks don’t fall from the sky
This was how bad my right one was from last July. My left one was no bruising and honestly never really hurt other than the initial pop. It’s perfectly fine now
I don’t have any bruising just a knot. Hopefully it isn’t that bad. Pain isn’t bad unless I have sudden movement.
I hate being able to see the MRI results without being able to reach my doctor. Hoss Bonaventure Eric The Viking or anyone else who is knowledgeable it appears I have a torn proximal long head biceps tendon and superior labral tear. Is that serious? Will I need surgery?
I’ve had this on both sides Pop Pop. I chose not to get cut on and was able to successfully rehab both sides with full range of mobility still. It took me a second opinion on one to find a surgeon that wasn’t cut at all costs.
If I don’t use the arm it’s not painful. It’s when I use it that it hurts or starts to knot up. I’m not in constant pain or anything. Should I lift on the other side (light weights) can I use a peloton? I am afraid to put too much pressure on it. All I’ve been doing is walking. But I’m going crazy with just walking.
How old are you? Also I didn't read the thread, was this an acute injury or just gradual worsening discomfort.
40s also it was a freak accident I lifted something completely wrong without warming up and heard a series of about 4-5 “cracks” in my shoulder. It sounded like I was cracking my knuckles. I usually just workout from home with dumbbells so it wasn’t that it was too heavy just improper form more than anything else.
Both of mine tore at the elbow. I was told I didn’t have to have surgery but I would never be back at 100%. I chose to have the surgery and I’m back and plus some with size and strength in both biceps. I’m not familiar with where you might have torn it though. My last one was when I was 39 so I decided I’d rather have full access to my arm. It wa mentioned above how it healed on its own so that might be an option as I have no experience with your particular possible injury.
Daniel Ocean if surgery will offer a chance at complete recovery I’d explore that option. Also start training your legs. Not saying the lack of previous training caused your injury but for us getting older farts learning how to brace your back and arms when picking something up is crucial to long term health
Think he’s a runner so does train his legs that way That said, embracing squats and deadlifts is way cooler than running
I appreciate all the feed back. It’s my first major injury so I kinda bummed. I’ve always wanted to pretend I was invincible.
Yeah you're on the border of acute vs chronic. I would probably get the slap tear fixed and tenodese the bicep (anchor it into the bone right below where it tore)
All joking aside I’m running test to help get back into it and it’s working really well. My first tear was because I pushed my cutting for my wedding too hard and my second was just an accident with gravity but I’m on TRT to help slap on some good muscle and I’m old so it’s helping.
Eddie Hall tore his throwing a jab training for his boxing match vs Thor. He was back at it a few weeks later. For us regular folks it seems like a long time from surgery to recovery but it’s really not and I was back up and lifting again regular like 2 weeks after getting the go ahead from my dr. Last one sucked cause we had a 1 yr old that I couldn’t help with because he was hard to wrangle with my arm brace on.
Yep. They gave me a script for it after my last blood test. I’ve done it before and got some back acne so they went ahead and did it and nothing at all now.
My GH comment was tongue in cheek but pharmacology really does work. No doubt EH was doing a decent protocol to get back sooner
He went to one of the best surgeons in the world I believe and obviously did some extra stuff to be back in the ring like 2 weeks after.
