Don’t remember what show I was listening to but Budweiser exec’s were already fuming because the Qataris promised them front and center adds and now they’re trying to hide all of them instead.
my boss asked me earlier this week why I was taking random days off over the next few weeks. I told him it was for the WC. He doesn’t know much about it, so he asked a bunch of questions and I filled him in. this morning I walk in and he told me that he talked to his best friend last night and he is a huge soccer fan too. His friend is traveling to Buenos Aires and is spending the next month down there watching the WC. I sat around all day thinking… why the fuck didn’t I think of that
Why have the greatest month of your life in Buenos Aeris when you can sleep on a cot in a tent in the desert where you’ll get detained for taking pictures or being in the same room with a female you’re not married to?
My favorite vacation was in Jamaica watching the World Cup for a week straight. Didn’t have to do shit but drink and talk to my 5-6 newfound buds in the pub. They had a huge bracket outside the bar, would do again 10/10 times. Also it wasn’t planned, just how it happened.
I did that in Europe during the last WC and it was a blast. Watched games in Madrid, Bern, Copenhagen, and Berlin (Toni Kroos last minute winner against Sweden on a giant screen in front of the Brandenburg Gate). I was planning on doing Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Rio for this one but real life stuff got in the way.
It was in the 80s and they moved training from 1:30 to 4. Their group stage matches will be at 10PM, 1PM, and 10PM.
I was in London during the 2010 World Cup. Went around to bars for various countries for a lot of matches, it was awesome. A large English gentleman head butted me at the American bar right after Donovan’s goal against Algeria.
I was in Italy (Venice and Rome) in 2006 and a bunch of other guys studying abroad got the shit beat out of them. I managed to avoid it probably because I'm an unthreatening nerd.
2010, I passed on going to law school summer abroad… in Spain. What a gut punch watching my classmates dancing in the streets.
I spent most of June 2008 in Herzogenaurach, Germany for work. Every Euro 2008 match was an event. After every German win it was a party most of the night with us Americans showing up to work the next day at 10 or so and the Germans sauntering in around noon. The Turkey match night was just insane, traffic jams all through town, more topless German women than you can imagine. We left to go back to the States 1 day later. They blamed us for 5-6 months for not staying through the Final. Were seriously pissed about it.
Watched the group stage of the 2018 in Colombia, which was awesome for many reasons. However, I will say that it was a bit stressful actually finding places showing the matches at times, given some of the early starts and that the World Cup is only on DirectTV there.
I hope enjj smuggled in some Kokanee’s in his socks in his bags so he doesn’t get too ornery on his #tRiPoFaLiFeTiMe
Stupid. Oh well wasn’t planning on drinking there. Twenty games will keep me busy. No need wasting time trying to piss out $80 worth of beer. Dublin on the other hand…
i will be watching all the games from the comfort (and safety) of my couch with the only expense being as many drinks (non bud zero division) as i see fit. not the trip of a lifetime but it’ll have to do
That was gone quick. I think I got there 11 minutes after the tweet and it was gone. I need to be quicker, today I will be quicker.
Getting that out of the way in Dublin and Athens. The others in my group have 25-30 games. Boozing was low on the priority list.
When is the announcement for 2030? Excited for 2026, in the US, but it's more fun attending abroad... unless it's Qatar
