Pffft also, the article says Aztec origin for Namor. Was it not Mayan? Ku’ku’lkán is the Mayan name for Quetzalcóatl. Thought he was decidedly more Mayan than Aztec, iyam
Tenoch Huerta was in his fucking BAG viewing 2 on Sunday the world would be better off if Whitlock choked on a calzone or a white persons boot he can’t stop licking
They said Mesoamerican multiple times. But certain people assume anyone from Latin America is Mexican.
I believe Coogler still wrote the screenplay for it, but regardless, it looks fantastic. Jonathan Majors running the world.
Just got out an hour ago & I agree with most of that. Really dragged in the 30 mins prior to the final battle - some nice stuff in there but it just felt like it lost all momentum until the suit reveal. Better effort for Shuri in #2 but she still struggled to keep up with some of the others at times. Whereas M'Baku stole the scene every time he was on. And I got nothing from the Riri inclusion - I guess it made sense as the reason for the conflict, but it was an unnecessary extra plot element IMO. But I actually enjoyed the Ross/Val scenes - it was a nice change of pace from the intensity of much of the film & injected some much needed humour. And yeah, Namor was pretty cool. I don't like all of the changes to the character (why not Atlanteans?) but there was far more good than bad.
I said it earlier but I honestly think a lot of the “dragging” that happened was because Coogler got so many good performances (and real actual emotions from their friend/colleague dying) that he couldn’t leave it on the cutting room floor. I absolutely loved the origin change for Namor. Why do we need more heros of Euro-Caucasian origins? Tying him into Latin America is a great way for another culture to be represented and it 100% fit.
I thought Namor and the background of him was one of the best parts of the movie if not the best. He was excellent
In retrospect, from a movie perspective, it works just fine. Namor is a character that almost no one not reading the comics would know very well, so you can make that change pretty easily. My problem is that I've been reading about the guy for 40 years so it's just a bit weird - it's a cool idea, just weird.
True. But that goes for a lot of what we see on screen. I mean, they named him Namor because he was an underworld (backward) Roman. The essence of the character is all that matters to me. Black Nick Fury, hmmm, played by Sam Jackson…fuck yes imo.
Yeah if Loki S2 is as good as S1, I'd argue Loki has at least some claim to a Top 5 character in all of the MCU, if you factor quantity and quality. Iron Man, Spiderman and Cap top 3, then maybe Thor. But Hiddleston's list of peers is short.
man o man, what a can of worms you’ve opened. Discussion begins with Wanda, cant begin to process the rest
SM3 suffers from the fact that its plot only works with 2 very smart characters suddenly being very, very stupid
Was at animal kingdom yesterd and there's this insane Avatar area. The entire time I was in Africa I was just thinking about how sick a Wakanda area would be. Make it happen.
Sounds like the Holiday Special is a bit of a prequel to Vol. 3 The director went on to explain that the Holiday Special allowed him to add in plot details which would be significant in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. "So, where you get to learn all that, and then there's a couple of bigger pieces of spoiler-y lore," Gunn said. "You're gonna learn all of those things. In a way, the Holiday Special was a Trojan Horse for me to sneak in stuff that becomes important in Vol 3, so I don't have to spend a lot of time at the beginning of that movie explaining it."
Can we get a D+ special of Peggy and Steve living that post-WWII suburban life. Where even Cap can’t avoid having shitty boomer children.
It's nice to know Gunn still has the right handle on these characters. He hasn't lost it after several years since Vol 2 That was wonderful. I could have watched another hour of that. No surprise it had a great soundtrack. It was light on plot but made up for it with fun character interactions.
