I won't discount the personal anecdotes you shared, but I'm not convinced that Kamala increases the D turnout any more than a handful of other people who have proven to be extremely popular in recent elections. Whitmer in particular just outperformed Biden across the board in all categories in a crucial swing state.
Whitmer could possibly help democrats have a bigger margin in Michigan, but you could be putting Georgia and Pennsylvania at risk.
Not sure why you don’t seem to get my point. If we’re both speaking in hypotheticals, I just don’t understand risk for the sake of taking a risk. Maybe you’re right and nothing changes or things get better. Okay. But what if you’re wrong? Now we’ve taken a highly popular Governor out of a swing state and potentially alienated a much needed voting bloc, and for what? That’s why I keep asking about risk and reward. If you’re providing hypotheticals and I’m speaking in anecdotals, why are we having this conversation?
Two years to try and make Harris more palatable. This country is filled with people that believe South American immigrants conveniently are going to invade the US right before every election. Democrats just need her to do something cool like two weeks before the election and nothing before will matter.
Ok cool. Glad we could put the qualifications of Vice President (who’s only real needs are to vote in party lines to break Senate ties and be breathing if POTUS has surgery) into perspective Good talk. I’m almost ready to root for fascism, or an asteroid.
In my 50 plus years on this earth, I cannot think of one thing a VP has done that has mattered or shifted an election or re-election. Tim Kaine crushed Pence from my limited recollection in 2016 and they still lost. I couldn’t tell you one thing Biden did other than be Obamas buddy.
Don't think there's a chance in hell the party would oust her as long as Biden is running again, but she does fucking suck a lot and I seriously doubt a lot of Black women in Georgia are enthused about her regardless of how it would appear if a white woman was swapped for VP.
We had a pretty good run of active VPs from the 40s through the 70s. All for bad reasons but nevertheless.
There's a difference between giving a shit about Kamala individually vs seeing a black woman replaced by a white woman or whatever. You really can't escape that.
For sure. But there's a leigt reason to have concern for Biden being a thousand years old and needing a succession plan in place if he were to kick the bucket in the second term but it's not nearly enough of a concern to change anything at all imo
Completely agree, but I think we will have a legit expectation/fear more than almost any other election that the President could die while in office.
It's the worst sort of pundit brain in here sometimes. Rules for democrats: 1. Do popular shit 2. Don't alienate your base That's the playbook.
ALSO, and I cannot stress this enough. If anyone you know in your life starts talking about crime going up beat them into a fucking coma. Fucking morons
<begins rolling up sleeves> "Violent crime is about to skyrocket in the exact spot that you're standing, Aunt Doris!"
The Veeps are there to pander to some aspect of the base. Kamala sucks but she was there for Black female representation. Pence was to give Trump the veneer of evangelist credibility Biden was to help Obama w conservative/centrist whites Cheney was to give GW a 'serious guy in the room' type.
Yeah you’re right. My memory is fading due to my old age. I just don’t recall that swinging elections.
Really they should just replace her with Abrams honestly. Kamala just sucks so much as a person and shouldn't be rewarded, but that's my hot take.
Biden Administration on such a roll y’all talking about tweaking the starting 5. Rookie coach type shit. You’re going to alienate your locker room. on a lighter note, I like the 2nd dude. Doug seems cool af.
I don't have a strong opinion on Kamala, but it's pretty wild how completely absence she's been. Feels more so than any recent VP.
when was the last time a veep was replaced when running for reelection? Just answer that simple question.
Would be awfully convenient if Sotomayor decided to retire by the end of 2023 and open up a seat on the SCOTUS that you could easily transition Harris to as she is 10 years younger than Sotomayor. Have to believe a move from Veep to SCOTUS would not be seen as abandoning a WOC. Now, I don’t know how Copmala would be on the SCOTUS, and I’m not really advocating for it, but that would be a way to get her out of the picture (not trying to be dismissive of her as a WOC, just as a bad politician).
Any SCOTUS seats filled by dems should go to 27 year olds fresh out of law school who are selected based on their potential to make the right wing judges hate their jobs. Edit: I want judge alito to catch verbal hands everytime he steps out of the office
Or… you do enough for people to make sure to win the 2024 and 2028 elections. Thomas and Alito won’t live forever and filling those seats would be more important than a 30 year old to fill any seat that opens before 2024. If Harris’ appointment does that, then I see few better options.
Forget race entirely. Replacing the not deceased VP at all is just more “Dems in disarray” nonsense that would serve only to depress the turnout of democratic voters.
Under the best circumstances the media will report Dems are in disarray. 2 years with divided govt and some suck ass House hearings and there will be a new bag of problems “will they or won’t they” impact turnout.
If pence didn’t have to show up every now and then to cast the tie breaking vote in the senate we would have never seen him.
Me checking this thread after bringing up Nelson Rockefeller and Henry Wallace to see we're still talking about Kamela.
