Lol exactly We may have our choice between "Former Top 50 guy who started 5 games for a blue blood but is transferring as he'll be behind two hand-picked 5 stars" and "All-ACC Honorable Mention guy with 70 career TDs capping his career off with one more season" and people are acting upset CJ Stroud wasn't available We're not going to out-gun USC overnight with someone who - by definition - couldn't get a start at his current school or couldn't be a top 3-4 round draft pick this year, but it looks like we're actually gunning for someone who will be a real improvement over going into next year with Pyne/Buchner, so I'll take it and see where we end up
Tamper with Xavier Nwkanpa to get him back here too He can still be a 3-year starter here vs. going 7-5 for four years with a team scoring 11 PPG
There will be plenty of Bo Nix’s, Michael Penix’s, etc though. Guys who are a little bit of a flier but have enough pedigree to gamble on. And they’re going to be good wherever they go. Leary is basically that. Assuming he stays healthy, he’s Michael Penix 2.0.
Leary seems to be the leader among fans at this point, and probably rightfully so. IF he's healthy. A torn pec can kind of impact things. And he wasn't playing up to the previous year when he got hurt. That said, Nix and Penix were headed for the trash heap before doing better than expected at new schools. Let's not play them up to be anything close to the sure thing that many fans think we should be able to find in the portal.
No. He was not. Not at the time he left Auburn. He turned out better, but that was a surprise to everybody based on how he was playing at Auburn.
He had some good runs starting at an sec school though. He’d be equivalent to getting dj. Card has never really won a job and started. Leary has had two season ending injuries and the other dude plays in the g5
It's not everything, but Drew Pyne's passer rating this year was 25 points higher than Nix ever achieved at Auburn. Sure, he had "moments" but so did Pyne. Nix finished 30 points higher at Oregon than he ever did at Auburn. My point isn't that Pyne's better, btw. It's that there has really been one sure thing portal QB so far. Let's not revise history to say Nix and Penix were light years more attractive than what might be available moving forward. Again, QBs hit the portal for a reason.
That is so huge for a number of reasons because both Barnes and the other guy in his class are gone and Mickey can play nickel and be protected a bit
He was gonna go undrafted or like late round at best ND probably said here’s $200k in NIL and an insurance policy no brainer
From a fan perspective I think this is one of the positives of NIL. Fringe NFL prospects will probably make more money staying in college than they will bouncing around the training camp circuit.
Hendon Hooker was also getting beat out by Braxton Burmeister (who I believe rode the pine at San Diego State after leaving VT) when he was a Hokie. It’s an imperfect science trying to judge what these kids can be.
Sometimes a change of scenery and different coach can unlock something in these kids. I have 0 faith Tom Rees holds the key to unlocking any of them but if we brought in say…David Cutcliffe then we might have a stew going.
Statsofwar on twitter is claiming he knows that ND contacted Hudson Card already Illegal (technically) right now, so would mean he's pretty high on the list you'd imagine
Notre Dame should join a conference! Hurr!! Durr! Durr!!! #'s 3&4 can only play their way OUT of the playoffs this year with their title game. Take your conference championship games that everybody wants ND to play so bad and go fuck yourselves.
Eh, Penix was a 4-star recruit who was always very talented and put up very good numbers, he just couldn't stay healthy. He was at UW what he was at IU, just healthy.
He's had a rough year. I could see him wanting a fresh start. But he should be able to be WR1 with his talent
I thought about how I should probably start listening to d3's podcast again. But I'm not sure I can do it... I'll have to rely on all of you for that
Speaking of Seantrel Henderson, is Cretin Durham still a school? For a minute there, that was the closest thing to a pipeline school that we had.
