If he doesn't accept I'm not sure I even want him. Def not a team-first guy, questionable decision making.
why who gives a shit it’s not our money doesn’t matter in baseball unless your owner is a cheap fuck idc if he’s only peak degrom for 2-3 of those years sign me up
Paying $80M for a 40-year-old and a guy who will make half his starts yearly is pretty rich even for the Mets.
they chose dead arm max over degrom lmfao thank god teel doesn’t control the thread anymore he’d throw an off-season long temper tantrum over this and refuse to change the title
no idea, more just the paying someone that much at 38-40 years of age I get it doesn't really matter but that's a shit ton for someone who will probably get injured and be that old even if he is still awesome, which is the "sucks to lose him" part
even I can laugh at the mets, and I feel confident in a few years people would go "lol the mets are paying degrom $40mil at 40 years old"
smoltzy when degrom is a met: guy is damaged goods he doesn't even pitch anymore smoltzy in late 2022: omg we're gonna sign degrom if he wants to get the bag from a directionless franchise that plays inside a traeger grill then I am very happy for him, I am too mature for this board
Amazing how out of place and game changing that arod deal was. And then they didn’t do it again for 20 years
when the common refrain from you marks for the last 3 years is how money isn’t an object, it’s just incredibly funny watching that blowing up as every single person but y’all knew it would
see you again in 2023 after you just ignore this thread for 3 months again because your stupid uncle stevie schtick has once again fallen apart
toby talking points is melting down his #1 FA target will be not pitching in a tin can instead of not pitching in Atlanta, Braves have a good team they'll be fine
I have no take on that contract because how the hell could anyone know what the hell he's going to be next year, let alone the next five? Good for him, and probably Verlander and Rodon.
Agree, it's a huge gamble. It's not my money so whatever but teams have budgets and putting that much into a huge gamble is risky imo. If he's healthy for 5 years, it's a fair market deal. If he's hurt like he has been the last 3, it's horrific. More downside than upside but good for him.
It's not even that. He doesn't need to make 30 starts to be worth that much. He's so good that he could be worth that much with 20 starts if the HR issues this year are a fluke. The problem with deals like this is it's an enormous risk, but if it doesn't work you can't use it as an excuse to stop spending. You have to keep going for it, and that kind of money is an albatross around your entire roster if he's making 10 starts. And Texas doesn't really have a history of consistently choosing to spend at the level they have the last 12 months.
