I did some dumb shit last night. Last heavy squat, 12 days out. Took my 2 top singles then had a heavy set of 5. Went for 534x5. 3rd rep I felt a twinge in my back. Did the responsible thing and racked it. Decided it wasn’t *that* bad so went for the last 2 reps and now I can barely walk. Couldn’t tie my shoes this morning. great spot to be 12 days out!!!

Give yourself some cheat meals and enjoy a few IPAs, that’ll help prevent a crash diet. Biggest thing is to cut out sugar and saturated fat. Not all carbs are evil, especially if you’re working out. Do you have any sort of fitness routine currently? How much time do you have to devote to one?
I go to the gym every day and do 30 minutes of cardio. I can devote like 30-45 minutes. I used to lift weights more but tore my labrum. I have labrum surgery early 2023. I still have been doing chest and arms on the weekends along with cardio cause I have more time on the weekends. Need to get back to doing legs and back. I need to stop snacking past 7PM at night.
Download MyFitnessPal and track your calories and macros for a few weeks. It’ll be eye opening how much shit you eat and how easy it is to cut a lot of calories out when you’re paying attention. Use some online calculators to figure out a good calorie goal to put yourself in a slight deficit. And eat as many grams of protein a day as your goal weight (e.g. 190 grams of protein if you want to weigh 190). If that amount of protein is too much for you, drop down to .8 g/lb instead. Once you hit your protein goal, split your remaining cals however you want between fat and carb however you like. It really doesn’t seem to matter that much as long as you’re tracking calories and protein. If you have calorie room leftover for an ipa, have at it. I’ve gotten into really good shape and still have a drink when I get home from work on most days. In the end, diet is WAY more important than exercise if your goal is to lose weight. Much easier to simply eat less than to burn a shitload of calories by exercising more. Cardio is great for overall health. But resistance training is much better if you want to cut fat while adding muscle. First few months when you can simultaneously lose fat AND add muscle is awesome. That ends after not too long unfortunately.
I used to follow this thread like 10 years ago and found myfitnesspal. I’ve been back using it for a month and my goal is 1900 but I usually eat too much junk from 7pm-9pm and go to 2100 calories. I’m 6’0 210. I do 30 minutes on the elliptical and burn like 250 calories I guess. Maybe I should lift every day instead of cardio. Not sure how many calories it would burn.
Maybe try to get after the cardio a little more. Monitor your heart rate to push yourself more and more each week. And as always, demand more of yourself.
