The unions wanted them to vote for it because they were given the choice of 1) the imposed agreement getting pushed through or 2) the imposed agreement getting pushed through with a separate 7 days sick leave bill that would almost certainly fail. Saying they “wanted” it is not a fair assessment when the unions were given a choice between no chance and slim chance, with no option for a positive outcome.
Correct. They had almost zero leverage. The Union's best outcome was a hail mary to get the amendment through. The squad followed what the unions wanted to do under the circumstances. This isnt like infrastructure bills where they needed squad votes to pass it. They had no leverage. Calling them class traitors is extremely misplaced in this situation.
The imposed settlement was going to pass either way because America’s #1 rule is “don’t fuck with the money”. Could have voted for the 7 days bill and against the imposition to at least show solidarity that this is bullshit.
Just one guy's opinion, but he thinks it will hold up due to lack of standing. Federalist Society probably wants to avoid opening that can of worms
This is so dumb. Make it Michigan or Pennsylvania. Some state that deserves the extra attention because they'll actually vote for the candidate.
Make it California. Fuck making it any podunk state that has fewer people than LA County 10% of the American population. 5th largest economy in the wurld
True that. Imagine how many relieved Iowans there are who know they won’t be bombarded with political ads way before the rest of us.
The thinking is that small candidates like Bernie 2016 or Howard Dean or hell, Jimmy Carter wouldn't stand a chance trying to compete in a huge multi-market state like California where the campaign costs would be 50x more expensive.
The ads fucking suck. So do the dipshit candidates showing up at the state fair and parades. Trump told a crowd after the caucus that he loved Iowa and him and Melania were gonna buy a place here. Chuds lapped it up along with every other piece of garbage he spewed. Joe Lieberman told Jon Stewart he wanted to buy an RV and take an Iowa small town tour. I've seen them Joe, you're not missing much. The only shitty part is the state will lose a lot of money.
other cities are also dem-leaning (just not their suburbs unlike atlanta) military bases are becoming dem-leaning persons of color in the black belt
There's also thinking that there should be campaign finance reform so small candidates have a chance to be heard no matter where they're campaigning
SC dems(which is to say black people) went hard in the paint for Joe after Bernie got off to a hot start. It's no surprise Joe is a big fan of the SC democratic primary.
