Also freeman kinda fucked up with his pr comment “wouldnt hesitate to play Buchner in a bowl”. Such an easy question to avoid and he got lucky no one knew it was real (except Pyne….)
I have it on good authority BK was not super happy the kid was attempting to learn Mandarin the summer going into his freshman season while also being asked to learn the playbook. He apparently would also ask Kelly a million overly analytical questions in response to every bit of instruction Kelly would give him.
We need to enjoy the Marcus Freeman that hasn't been burned by being too honest with the media yet. That'll be beaten out of him real soon.
Lenzy is starting his consulting job or whatever and not playing but otherwise sign me up. Bring back the holtz era
Loy: I can confirm a note from John Brice, who is now working for Notre Dame as well as FootballScoop, who was first to report this: Tyler Buchner will play in Notre Dame's bowl game.
yeah for someone who could have easily gone pro last year, he's really gone above and beyond. Played injured the entire season, switched positions.
Patterson getting to q levels of lore (q tried to come back if I remember and everyone, including nd, told him that’s a terrible idea).
Pyne asked to split reps with Buchner in the first practice and says fuck this and leaves. Not too hard to see
I wouldn't blame him for that. Pyne definitely earned the right to start the bowl game if that's what he wanted to do.
Based on what? Why is anyone entitled to anything when you have four losses? The game should be used for next year. It's not a charity.
Really interesting comment from DeShone Kizer regarding NFL GMs questioning his decision to go to Notre Dame and how it led to them questioning whether he actually loved football
Yes I thought that was interesting as well. The way he said it too like it’s something they all have to deal with
Because Pyne has played better than Buchner, its an exhibition game, and the last of his ND career. Working Buchner into the game plan is one thing but it would be pretty shitty to not give Pyne the start.
God dammit. Loy: Talked to a source about the freshman quarterback. People inside the Gug are very excited about his potential. They are raving about his arm, his moxie, and believe he's a perfect fit for what they want to do offensively with the weapons they have and the guys they are bringing in. The expectation is that we'll see Angeli in the bowl game and it'll be a real opportunity for him. "He's got a big, big arm and he can stretch the field. That is exactly what is needed for what we will have at WR next season."
You lose four quarters of evaluating Buchner and Angeli in a live game situation when you know Pyne isn't coming back
I agree they both should get live reps. But Pyne is (was) QB1 this season and if the coaches decided not to treat him that way, then I don't blame him one bit for bailing. I'd do the same thing.
