that’s not the mindset, it’s more about having no other option than to play football. Belichik is notorious for drafting guys that are either going to play football or go pump gas. He thinks having no other options makes them hungrier Tuitt is an example of why they think like that.
i hope Angeli is an absolute boss and if he wins the starting job over Buchner/Minchey/Transfer QB (like Hudson Card) then he would have clearly earned it and proven all the recruiting ranks wrong he's got size and can run a little bit but looks to pass first from everything that I have seen but it's obviously very limited....he's been bashed because everyone wanted someone higher ranked, but in the end, QB rankings mean VERY little unless you get THE can't miss prospect the two most important attributes to me in a normal sized QB (6'1 and up) is how fast they can read a defense and how accurately they can place the ball and we don't know anything about that regarding Angeli
Guys.... GUYS Just a reminder that Ian Book won more games at ND than anyone ever. We used to say the same shit about him. To a1ND's point, we have no fucking idea what will happen
If he’s not going to be the guy next year and is upset about competing, that’s on him. He was only QB1 because Buchner got hurt. If Buchner is a go, he isn’t QB1 anymore.
This has become a much bigger tangent than it needs to be, but this is the part I disagree with. Pyne showed more than Buchner did on the field this year (that's not saying much), and won the job in my eyes. It's not like he was filling in for Peyton Manning.
Probably Tillery and Irish Chocolate too. We’ve had a history of guys who got a quick paycheck in the NFL and didn’t seem to be too serious about it. Coincidentally, a lot on the DL.
Also going to be a hell of a pitfall of Nil 3-400k doesn’t sound like much in the context of player football pay but to a kid who is receiving a decade of their parents income, good fucking luck getting a portion of them to buy in until it’s all gone
Might as well finish it out and then get that Harvard MBA Though I guess double degrees from Harvard and ex-ND QB is fine.
This thread is funny as hell. Pyne needs to go be the guy at a lower level, he’ll mop up somewhere else. We need to bring in the best available transfer and let them all compete. The depth chart is no worse next year than it was last year with Pyne leaving, he’d be a great insurance policy but oh well.
yeah he'll get the benefit of the ND network either way, plus all the perks that come with being his father's son. Those two things will more than offset whatever he might miss out on by not having a diploma that says Notre Dame on it. I do agree it's surprising that he didn't stick around to graduate though. Wouldn't have guessed that.
If he left bc he had to compete it’s w/e, but I understand how Pyne might feel some sorta way in all this… he’s penalized bc we all clearly see how physically limited he is, had some absolute duds, but he also had a great passer rating and some nice showings where if Buchner had Pyne’s QBR/stat line vs UNC/Clemson/USC we’d be highly optimistic about Buchner’s future, whereas Pyne gets kind of shit on bc that’s his perceived ceiling… in addition the duds. Unless you absolutely ball out is your job always in limbo, is there no longer any ability to grow/progress into the role/job as a player? Pyne prob feels he earned the right to be the leader in the clubhouse going into next season as opposed to being in an open competition every season that you’re not a Heisman finalist.
If he truly was set to graduate in two weeks, I bet he calms down enough between now and mid-January to just take his finals and get the diploma
Some pretty callous posts about players in general and Pyne who frustrated the fuck out of me so I get it but this thread has become increasingly cynical or maybe I am just in a bad mood
Once someone gets paid I do not have to feel empathy for them especially when they are in a developmental stage of their life, gotcha.
I feel for Drew Pyne. He was put in an unwinnable situation and probably gets an A- grade (or maybe even an A) for how he handled it compared to his talent level and physical gifts. If you told me at halftime of Cal that we'd be 8-2 for the rest of the season and that he'd have a 22-6 TD/INT ratio, I'm not sure I'd believe you. That being said, he just simply isn't good enough to compete for a national championship at a school where that's the standard. I get he probably dreamed of being the ND QB since he was 5, his dream came true and he pretty much did about as much as you could ask of him - but it simply isn't going to hit the expectations to go into next year with him starting given the fact that we can now essentially go out and sign any QB that wants to come to ND. If he wants to leave, that's his choice. I don't think people don't feel empathy for him. He did what he could, but that's just not good enough, and people are happy we're moving on
he gets an a+ it’s not his fault he had to play 10 games. Tommy came to that realization that the angst wasn’t about him later in life hopefully drew does too
i did not see a whole lot of bad stuff written about pyne in this thread, if you want to see some real heinous stuff you should’ve seen what I wrote to him and his family on Twitter
Pre season he was neck and neck with Morrison. The whole fan base should probably cut freshman a little slack. Again, if nd would have recruited the position like a d1 program he wouldn’t have had to play so early
oh crap, my Twitter joke was terrible timing Seriously fans who tweet at players are fucking disgusting
Right about now is probably a good time for twitter to die and then we just have to wait for the curated message from the beat indented to placate.
