I’m assuming they decided the SS market was going to be absurd and settled for this. Doesn’t seem like a bad move. Winker was already on the outs with the team anyways.
I’d be pretty psyched for either teams. The Mets avoid that albatross. And the rangers are trying to win. They’ll finish third. But hey, give them credit for trying.

The Rodon/White Sox thing from last year where they didn't even make a QO for him is still so confusing. Only way it would have made sense is if his arm was shot, and that obviously was not the case.
I’m fairly certain they’re going to put the full press on Senga’s team next week and punt on the known elite starters market. If they sign one of the shortstops, I’ll be okay with this approach. But I’ll be pretty bummed if l they don’t because Rodon made way too much sense
Just asking questions. The rangers seem to be splashing lately. I'm sure the owners are ghouls in their own right, but seemingly hands off besides handlings check signing pens in the last year. Are they legit going forward? I see it as a 50/50 signing.
They’re dumb and needed $16MM to pick up Kimbrel’s option so they could flip him for AJ Pollock, and now we’re glad Pollock opted out of his option.
So I'm clear, they 'needed' to pick up an option. For kimbrel. 16m worth. And it's become worse? I think about things from time to time.
Yeah. Rodon has an extensive injury history too, but they don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt to assume that was the primary reason they let him walk. We have a cheap owner and a bad GM, so the $16MM needed for Kimbrel probably pushed out Rodon and his $18MM QO (or around there).
Maybe too hands off. They left Jon Daniels in power accomplishing nothing for way too long, which is why they're in this hole. Also, the history of spending your way out of misery in the MLB is pretty checkered, but their fans should enjoy this team more unless they get reamed on their ticket prices. Current GM is a wildcard in terms of ability, so not really sure he knows how to transform this team to more than a team spending a shit ton of money on free agents. It certainly makes one of recent baseball's least interesting teams at least somewhat interesting, but DeGrom will likely only appear in 15-20 of their 162 games.
Like I’ve said to friends, it’s half signing the best pitcher in baseball despite the risk and half showing the fans that you’re at least trying. The minor league system has been built up so they have options to bring in some more talent via trade but the vast majority is still a year away from making the jump to the majors. They still need one more starter and a corner outfield bat but they’re built to compete now and be an exciting team. Unfortunately with the Ballys Sports issues no one will be able to watch them locally outside of those with directv

We’ve always had revenues for supporting a top ten payroll. The only problem has been the unwillingness of ownership to go through a rebuild. They finally accepted that a couple of years ago, but now the baseball execs feel like the farm is strong enough to leverage and turn the team into a wildcard contender and hopefully be in place to jump when Houston’s core ages out.
Fair. I don't really care but I'm not being dismissive and I certainly respect the response. Your farm seems pretty stacked, at least the top. Bait, a little of both, or developing? Top heavy as it seems (in a good way), or anything underneath? I guess I'm asking if you're the angels or legitimate
The farm is pitching heavy right now and we haven’t shown ourselves to be competent at all at developing that. So, it may be in our best interests to trade it off since we’ll probably fail to turn Leiter, Rocker, et al into something. We’re not like the Angels in that our ownership is fairly hands off. Like Arte, they’re horrible human beings, but unlike Arte, they’re not likely to blow up a multi year plan to sign someone just because they like them.
