Which coach didn't recruit nationally? Dorrell had commits from coast to coast. From Mater Dei, CA to STA, FL. Stopping at Allen, TX and Buford, GA on the way. As did Tucker.
What in his background would make you think this is anything less than a good hire of an up and coming coach?
that whole failed prime academy thing and he's never once coached a game in which his team wasn't vastly more talented than its opponent That's probably it, and if you're a program that's been struggling for a long time they're easy to accept
Zero wins against more talented teams. And despite his hype, won't be more talented than 10/12 teams next year.
I totally agree that Deion is woefully unprepared to start a school. I don’t think Prime Academy failed because he was a bad football coach. The second part doesn’t seem like a big knock when he’s clearly shown the ability to bring in big blue chip talent to an almost impossible place to recruit.
I don’t believe I’ve heard “his teams have more talent” ever used as a reason for saying a coach is a bad hire, let alone being the sole reason.
not a bad hire Just the only question on his ability Convincing cast offs from D1 programs that nobody wants to come to JSU is what immediately upgraded that roster That's not gonna bring you the same immediate success at the P5 level
If it was as easy as you make it sound, everybody at HBCUs would be doing it. Hell, in today's portal world, that skill is even more important now.
Really? Scott Frost at UCF. His teams had more talent. Won't work at Nebraska. Billy Napier at ULL. Embarrassing at Florida. Sarkisian at UW. Still 7-win Steve at Southern Cal and now at Texas.
Napier and Frost were widely thought of as great hires for those schools, weren't they? Sarkisian's record at UW was 34-29. His best season was 8-4.
That's why some of them have hired former NFL guys to coach deion's ability to recruit plus his access to resources is what they can't replicate He'll simply just have to alter his philosophy to fit with being in P5 conference I think it's a 570 ft dinger of a hire for Colorado and am quite happy he's on the west coast now
No, we laughed at both, Sark's best season being 8-4 kinda gives credence to his 7-win steve mantra. What did Texas expect?
I don’t remember anyone saying anything like this about these coaches prior to their hires. It was mostly look at the creative offenses they run type shit. Scott Frost took over an 0-12 UCF team and two years later it was 13-0. Everyone legit thought he was a good coach
Sark had never been a HC prior to being hired at UW. I don't think that has any relevance to this situation. Napier and Frost were universally (though not unanimously) considered to be good hires. I'm not guaranteeing that Deion is going to be a great HC or anything, just that I think people are being unfairly harsh about his resume compared to other coaches with similar backgrounds.
Literally every Oregon fan on the board would attest to Frost being disorganized, a lazy recruiter, a poor talent identifier, a poor talent developer, and a disappointing offensive mind.
UC “passed” on Hartline according to my buddy My buddy is a psycho Cincy homer but he’s connected to somebody at UC who feeds him information. He also claims Cincy passed on Deion and Minter after interviewing them.
I think you're misinterpreting what *we* think vs what we assume *our AD* will do. Obviously very different things.
I had forgotten about that. I will admit that his stuff with Barstool is a pretty big knock against him and proof that he has an unforgivably embarrassing sense of humor. The Banks may proceed.
- My Dad is an Alcorn State grad - My little brother is a Jackson State grad - They both going at it in the family group chat this morning me:
Lots of cheap direct flights from miami to denver, i know thats one of the things cu coaches have liked about cu in the past. Somewhat central and denver is a major hub so theres tons of easy and cheap flights to and from denver to metro areas across us.
Based on how us and TCU did pur first couple years in the Big12, they'll be at least 2 years away from being competitive
Another day, another example of The Banks proving he, yet again, has no idea what the fuck he’s talking about.
Tulsa has like 3,000 students. Texas State has 40,000. UIW is also like 40 minutes away from San Marcos which I’m guessing was a factor.
The number is low because coaches with options aren’t coaching at HBCUs. Of course their coaches would leave for a 10x pay bump at a power 5 school
