Sinclair put this in his article and it could mean nothing but I’m almost reading it that we wouldn’t be getting Card because he’d likely at least play for 2 years. Spoiler: Spoiler It seems highly likely Notre Dame will add a quarterback from the transfer portal. And in that case, it also seems likely it will be a one-year lease. So, Minchey should have nearly a full year under his belt by the time that quarterback via the portal wrapped up his stint in South Bend. (Minchey will enroll in five weeks).
Coach d said the same when minchey came onboard. Said they were previously looking at 2 year guys and now could focus on one year
Reading between the lines, I feel like that may have been the impetus for shifting momentum away from Card and toward someone like Pratt. Or maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part. But the story seems to jive.
Any of the guys we are looking at would be candidates to go pro if they had a good year, wouldn't they?
Probably more optics than anything. I have no faith in Rees getting this right but I gutless we will see
Take the best guy regardless if he’s a one year or two year guy. It seems like Pratt is the best guy but with Leary and Armstrong out, we’re getting into rough territory if Pratt passes and they don’t want to look at two year guys
Probably true, but he’s already being mentioned as a top 3 round pick for the NFL currently. Another good year and he’s definitely gone.
He would be interesting. They would definitely keep Buchner engaged with a running package (assuming he stays)
I guess my point is if they were looking at taking a “2 year guy” for any reason, they were setting their sights too low, unless where is a true freshman on the list that we aren’t aware of.
Agreed. Give me two 1 year guys over a 2 year guy any day. We need high upside at QB and to be able to pitch NFL development. Taking 1 year guys who are already 90% of the way there is actually a natural hedge for Tommy.
i'd have no problem with two years of a transfer, preparing for minchey's heisman campaign the year following
His braces say 17, his face says he enjoys Werthers and his senior coffee at McDonalds on the AARP discount.
I don’t mind hitting the mid-Atlantic coast hard and competing with Penn State for some under the radar kids. They regularly hit home runs from that area.
I might be wrong so don’t take it as gospel, I was under the impression that they prefered long players with a good frame to build on. What Voodoo said is that he is worried about his length, which balis has no control over
I want numbers at every position from here to the end of time, get kids graduated in 2.5 years if they suck or put them on academic scholly, use the portal to supplement. I don’t even care if the bottom of the class has 6-7 3 stars to make sure w have bodies.
Kid is athletic off the edge! Could definitely use some coaching up on hands and moves other than speed rush, but a lot to like.
Are you worried the listed height isn't accurate? Because 6-4 is good height for a DE. As for length, in the highlights, watch the very first play when he extends his arms in a gesture afterward. Kid has some long arms. Also good for a DE. Generally when we've had good playmkaing depth on the edges, it's been because we've taken kids like this and let them sort themselves out. (Justin Ademiola, Ade Ogun, both Okwaras, etc.)
Listed heights are basically never accurate. He looks like he’s closer to 6’2” in the film. This is the same issue that (I believe) is hurting Botelho.
Bothelho's problem isn't height. He's not quite instinctive enough in space for LB and doesn't use great leverage or get off blocks near the line once engaged. This kid's as tall as Justin Ademiola. He does fine coming off the edge. In fact, this kid's arms appear longer. I could be wrong, but I'm also guessing they've seen this kid in person at some point to size him up. I know Harry doesn't offer OL until he's seen them in person. Not sure if they treat DL the same way. They aren't getting an an immediate impact guy like Keeley in this class, but they really should add somebody with future potential to keep the holes from popping up.
Exactly, Botelho struggles to get off blocks. Why do you think that is? Also, Justin Amedilola has 3 sacks as a senior. We need better than that. I’m all for taking this kid because at this point he’s the only realistic option that has the potential to be good. But we need impact players at that position and we haven’t signed enough of them over the past few cycles.
Justin got consistent pressure and wasn't even a starter. Beating blocks was not an issue for him. And long arms are worth a couple inches in height for pass rushing. This kid's wingspan isn't that of somebody 6-1 or so.
Loy has been on top of the Keegan Johnson transfer portal stuff and he thinks Keegan visits ND this weekend and he sounds pretty optimistic ND lands him
We generally reactively hire someone with rival connections to call our games. We seemingly flipped the script on it this time around.
Seems like an odd job for him to take. He's got cushy media jobs on NBC despite having zero personality or flare and millions and millions from the Dallas days, why would you go into what is quickly becoming a gauntlet of a Pac 12 where you're essentially having one arm tied behind your back? If you just want to coach, go to a place like North Texas or FAU where you have great weather, local recruiting, and you can easily be a hero going 7-5 or 8-4 consistently. Stanford is like a major restructuring project in a college football landscape much different than the Harbaugh or early Shaw days
