Report: Sasha Banks is coming to NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 https://www.cagesideseats.com/wwe/2...-stardom-report-january-2023-mercedes-varnado
People are claiming she’s the mystery partner for the January 11th dynamite tag match they started promoting last night.
Facts don't care about your feelings. Don't see why that tweet bothered you. That was a badass show last night. Best promo battle in recent memory. Lots of great in ring action (like always). Storylines progressed. I don't care what the ratings say, AEW moved forward tonight. Winter is Coming should be great as well. Keep stacking shows and things will get back to normal.
isn't that Ben Shaprio's catch phrase? you trying to become an honorary member of Jericho's group? making excuses in advance for ratings is a new one
You've moved the goal posts so many times, just stay still for a second. Meltzer's tweet was valid, you got upset about that. Then you brought politics in, and I told you no thanks. Then you moved back to "AEW criticism". When 28 million homes are having issues, the ratings will dip. If you didn't enjoy last night's AEW show, the product is not for you.
Meltzer's tweet was hilarious for someone known to be a major AEW apologist, usually the excuses come after the fact. If we can make fun of writers in real sports having clear biases (Bruce Feldman and his guys, baseball writers with agents) I don't see why Dave should be off limits. I enjoyed some of last night's show and hated other parts, like I would with any
I thought the show was fine last night. It had some highs and lows. Like normal. I didn’t think it was anything outstanding. I think people find it odd that Dave and the dirt sheets weren’t out in full PR mode when WWE put up a sub 1m number on Friday and dipped on Monday. But was in full force spinning the AEW number today. That has nothing to do with liking the product or not. It’s pointing out what a unprofessional hack Dave is. And you always seem to fly off the handle the moment someone points things like this out. I agree with the larger point you make in that post that AEW needs to just produce good TV and hopefully that can actually happen once TK takes off this shitty ROH storylines from tv like he said he would.
"Flying off the handle". Can you point these times out? I can't think of a single time I'm "angrily posting". I'll refute a post I think is full of shit. It's a message board. I probably have 1% of the posts on this board that you or zeropointzero have. I occasionally post in here and the MMA thread. That's it. You guys take this shit way too seriously. Neither of you guys being very Ucey.
I cared about ratings for AEW for two reasons. 1. At the time, WWE was run by Vince McMahon and the programming sucked. I wanted to see the competition make waves and force changes. I certainly didn't expect the old geezer to flat out retire but I'm glad he's gone. So far, under Triple H, WWE is far less chaotic and stupid. There's still very little good wrestling, at least not enough to watch five hours every week, but it's better than it's been in a long time. 2. I like AEW and its talent and wanted it to succeed. Good ratings = a big network contract. Things look more than promising on that front, even with the 2022 being the company's worst in its long, long four(!) year history. Last night's show was #3 for the night, behind 2 NBA games. It's regularly in the top three. The Network seems pleased. The brand is going to stick around. It's not going to become another TNA. Good. With both of those points being resolved, I have little reason to follow the ratings anymore. #ThankyouforcomingtomyTedTalk
Need him to be serious for once about wanting to make Rampage important again. Moxley vs. Takeshita is a strong start but need it to be a whole 1-hour card, not just one match.
I just don’t think you can really make a good 1 hour show on cable. NXT did it on the network because it had no commercials. With Rampage you are basically trying to cram it all in 42-44 minutes.
Got to at least try. They aren't going to give him more time to work with if he can't even try with the one hour he does get.
He said he was loading up Rampage this week and ended up having Spoiler flabby ass Trent Seven as his big mystery opponent in the main event. He's never gonna back up all the hyping he does about taking it seriously
So apparently Dave was full of shit and the outage had no impact on the number according to that Brandon Thurston dude. for context 30m homes would be 1/3 of the TBS network. Keep paying this creep people.
Interesting how people discard Thurston when it comes to negative WWE ratings, but full blown agree with him when it comes to negative AEW ratings. He's actually extremely neutral when it comes to what he reports, which is mainly just the business of the pro wrestling. Here's a thing, wrestling ratings pretty much suck all across the board. Doesn't mean they both won't sign big new TV deals though, and both organizations will still fuck their "independent contractors" out of the money they're deserved.
Smackdown is the only show with any hot angle and its the only one not shitting the bed in ratings (minus the one day it switched stations). Book good shit and people will still watch (albeit not as many as before).
Here’s the thing. I was at a conference where stehpanie spoke recently and it was asked (by me) how they continue to appeal to kids even though their product is on past bedtime. Her response was basically “well they don’t watch it”. They consume wwe through social and other media. This is basically a way to say that the tv rating discussion itself is outdated and likely not even how they measure success. You can’t not include YouTube views for example.
it might not be how they measure success (and I understand why they'd think/say that) but the vast majority of the money that makes either company successful comes from their TV rights contracts
Ok but a lot of interest is also driven though media partnerships outside of just ratings. It’s not a “be all end all” when it comes to debate and the issue is people use ratings to have internet arguments about popularity. If it as just about role playing as media executives that’s fine I guess but if you’re trying to do the whole “what is better” argument it just can’t be about ratings.
With Tony Khan saying he will be announcing the plans for ROH after Final Battle, think the result of the ROH tag title match will be pretty telling. If the Briscoes win, think it's pretty safe to say ROH isn't getting a network TV deal since Warner/Discovery has blackballed Dem Boys from TV. As much as Tony Khan likes having title defenses on weekly TV, can't see him putting the tag title belts on a team that can't be on TV to even cut a prerecorded promo. Only way I see it getting a network TV deal is if Warner/Discovery greenlighted TK shopping it elsewhere.
