We caught 5. Needed 8 for a 4 person limit. Was steady action for a while and we pulled up some studs. I moved when it got slow. But the other wrecks weren't marking any fish and we ran out of time. All in all it was a great trip. Was super foggy.
Just booked this VRBO in Hopedale, La for the last weekend in February. I've fished there once before and it is a solid fishery. We thought about doing Delacroix but don't' know our way around that water at all. And we somewhat know what we're doing in Hopedale. Going to trailer my boat over and fish all day Friday, Saturday, and probably a half day Sunday. Mostly speckled trout and redfish. Probably have 4 guys going. I think this will be fun.https://www.vrbo.com/4907144ha?adultsCount=4&arrival=2023-02-24&departure=2023-02-26&haExternalSourceId=04e6cf69-9802-4742-bd2d-ca262d5b0ef5 323c841d-d8c3-4dde-8c51-8340aec35b13 hasc email&unitId=6006336&utm_campaign=VRBO_TRV_OLB_HASC_bookingConfirmation_PPS&utm_content=listing-img-121.4907144.6006336&utm_medium=email&utm_source=SYS&utm_term=20221212
You made the right choice. Delacroix has some fish right now because the River is super low, but due to cuts in the river it is too fresh now. Hopedale is the safest bet in Louisiana.
No, it was down to ~500 cfs. Was ~700 cfs last night. Can't go this weekend so this was my only shot.
Maybe that was yesterday morning. I am surprised at how clear that looks already. i'm hoping to get out this weekend.
Yeah, it was good and clear. Just high and fast. I thought maybe going above where the East Fork drops in would help but it was even faster up there.
11-17 mph winds tomorrow with gusts up to 25mph. Wonder if fishing in protected bayous would be doable or miserable. Generally I feel like 10-15mph is doable and anything over that gets pretty miserable. Might just tough it out and see how it is in the bayou.
i missed three strikes before checking my fly today, there was a tiny glob of head cement on the tip of the hook. fml anyways stop and give your flies a look now and again.
Went to go help DNR stock again and took two of my daughters. As we were carrying the first bucket out one of the started throwing up. So the other got the release them and then we had to leave. Did find some mayfly larva to show them.
they’re cutting the water off on a nice tailwater tomorrow, but the temps will be in the teens until noon there. got some decisions to make.
Yeah. I had been thinking of trying to go tomorrow, but I guess I'll just go a few times next week. My core would be fine, but the hands would be tough.
Was 55 degrees going out today. Called for 5-10 knots and 1 foot or less seas but it was a little more windy this morning so I was a tad skeptical. Had to go between 15-20 miles per hour through 2 foot chop to FH1 which is a 30ish mile run south east of Ocean Springs. Once we got there I jumped around to a few different wrecks. A probably 10-15 pound snapper broke me off in some structure-or I guess it could have been a shark-but I lost my egg weight, swivel, leader, and circle hook. Felt like a good fish. Then I caught that bigger snapper in that picture-probably somewhere in the 10-15 pound range. We caught probably 5-10 throw back undersized snapper. A keeper trigger fish was a nice bonus. Then my buddy lost a very nice sized snapper on one of my rods and we noticed the fluro leader was frayed. I'm going to tie all new leaders on all my offshore rods. Much smoother coming back in with a following sea , was able to run 30-35mph all the way home.
Also bought a new (to me) fly rod. Someone was selling a 7'2" 3wt fiberglass by Chris Barclay for a good deal couldn't pass it up. Now I'll try to sell my cheap one to recoup a little bit.
Have you ever had a long week, it comes to Friday afternoon and you thought, "Man I want to go fishing tomorrow morning." But then thought about all the work it would take to get everything together to go fishing in the morning and how your wife would probably get pissed you were gone for 4-5 hours so you just said fuck it?
I really want to get a group together and do something like this: https://lakeofthewoodsmn.com/lodging/listing/bostic-bay-luxury-ice-cabins/
Realized 2 rod tips were damaged this weekend. In the 1st pic the tip is somehow dislodged from the eyelet. 2nd pic the final eyelet is missing half the interior ring. My rod repair guy is $12-15 per rod , not bad. Dropped them off on Saturday.
after over a decade and two electric tape repairs, i have finally upgraded my trout net. by taking the basket and putting on an old tennis racket. we’ll see how long this holds together.
the butt felt solid, so i drilled it and added the eye. this actually fits the net sleeve on my pack, and the old net didnt. so i may not use the leash.
Was given a bunch of pheasant tails saved by a hunter I know. Tying him up some pheasant tails as a thank you. While I was at his house he showed and let me cast 4 different bamboo rods he's made. Also been tying some of my own design as a test
I've developed a list of the remaining brook trout streams in SC. I've decided I'm going to try and see how many of those I can catch one out of. Some are on private property or on what is considered the hardest hike in SC, so they may not happen. Tried the first one today, but didn't manage to get one. May have to find a way above the falls.
Does anyone listen to the Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report? Or Florida Saltwater Fishing Report ? They are awesome podcasts. Currently my favorite podcasts. Wish they have one that good for LA or MS.
Louisiana Great Outdoors with Don Dubuc. Reports from all over the state every Saturday. Uploaded as a podcast just an hour or so later. You can pick it up on the radio at 5am on WWL if you’re up
I've tried to listen to that one and found it to be way less well produced, very boomerish , and lame compared to Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report but maybe I need to give it another shot.
