There are a couple places in my town where they say "hit credit" when I use a debit card. Maybe their debit card processor charges more than their credit card processor. But I get the impression from the workers that there card reader sucks. Some of those things: the less things to press, the better.
Dan Lanning shouldn't have let the artist share his tat. He could've kept it special for just the people who see it in person, who could tell others, developing a legend, the veracity of which everyone else could debate. Then someone would make a hypothetical artist rendering. Someone else could then say, no, I think it's like this, creating the genre of Lanning-wife-tat-face-tats imaginings. Years later, he could share it, and we'd see which guesses were closest, and which ones would have been even better than the real thing.
The internet says that debit cards are cheaper for large purchases (% fees) and credit cards are cheaper per swipe, so that is probably why gas stations want you to run it as credit.
For the sake of the thread I’ve negotiated several of these over the years. There are 3 parties to each transaction: Card issuer(visa), middle man who negotiated the rates with the retailer and runs the card transaction, and the retailer. Middleman takes like .05% per debit transaction or less and credit ranges from 1.5-3+% depending on card issuer and transaction type. No idea what the card issuer charges the middleman but the end retailer regularly pays 10x-100x more for credit transactions than debit transactions.
So fucking explain Mr knows it That's what we are all discussing and trying to understand, so thanks for your 4 word fucking contribution
Sometimes card rates will be negotiated as flat rates by issuer regardless of card type but you have to have crazy volume to do that. Usually it dramatically varies by card issuer and reward type. Amex and discover are expensive as fuck and heavy reward cards are also expensive. Basic bitch visa and Mastercards are the cheapest credit cards to run by far.
So explain to me why 1up phone repairs basically forced me to make it a credit transaction of $100 yesterday. Their machine was obviously not broken or damaged in any way. They literally state on their website they will request you to press "skip" on debit card pin number entries. Maybe they are just better negotiators than you?
Still though don’t ever fuckin use a debit card because if you get your info stolen you’re way more fucked than if it’s credit card
Some banks or retailers make you run their cards as credit transactions for idk what the fuck reason. Ease of use? It has nothing to do with the exchange fee because point of sale systems know whether it’s a credit or debit card. They aren’t going to suddenly bill a debit card as a credit card just because they ran it that way. Point of sales are smart enough to know what type of card it is regardless
Also this makes no goddamn sense because the retailer pays the exchange fee. It doesn’t get passed on to the middleman. The middleman takes the payment and repays the retailer less the exchange fees. They have every reason to avoid credit transactions so what you’re saying would give them no financial benefit. It’s just for ease of use in some way that I don’t know because I’m not an expert on point of sale systems
I mean cobranded cards are different and I’m assuming they have a different arrangement than your typical retailer but I’ve never done that type of thing so can’t speak to it
Agree But I just was wondering how it worked. Then Mr pelinis came in and told us all how much he knows about how it works and how everyone was wrong but then how he didn't really understand it Top form TMBing on a Friday night
I find it quite interesting considering how ubiquitous cards have become (thank you cashless society New World Order) and basically no one gives it a second thought. It’s also very funny you say this considering the esoteric books you read that I would find boring.
Not boring : I’m watching the House Party remake. It’s entertaining. Not great. The number of 90s cameos they got for this is incredible.
If I ever have the misfortune of having to dine there again I’ll let them know. The fee wasn’t the worst part of the experience.
I ate homemade chicken pot pies at an AA thing yesterday (they tasted super good) and today I have the most god awful gas I have ever had in my entire life, and I’ve been known to wilt iron. Straight up sulfur. Burning my nose hairs. Had to be something in the pies cause everything else I’ve eaten has been what I usually eat. And only gas. I haven’t even done my daily poop yet.
Is there a thread where everyone lets the board know subjects in which they are experts? We have so many people with unique expertise (see credit card transaction fees) . It would be interesting to see in which fields everyone thinks they are experts.
Some people are experts in every thread they post in. It’s amazing, some of them even have a circle jerk fan club.
It’s okay to just admit you need me to graphic design you something. What would you like in/on your circle?
My DMs (and texts) are filled with requests for gambling, credit card, ticket buying, and stalking advice What an interesting reputation I've built
Just some good PG hydraulic press fun https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnsKiddDwKr/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=
I saw a really large alligator snapping turtle at the zoo yesterday and that shit was terrifying. It looked like a gargoyle or something.
Gf's neighbors that she shares an apartment wall with have been yelling at each other a lot recently. Last weekend slaming and sliding furniture and shit. The roommate heard them this week and again last night. Young couple with a baby and maybe other children. Guy is always going out to his car to smoke weed but also a lot of random vehicles show up and he gets in an out a lot so maybe he's selling. Pretty sketch and no idea if he's got a gun. It's two girls in my gfs apartment and they don't have another neighbor sharing a wall or ceiling so I personally don't feel comfortable making a complaint to say the apartment complex management, and I don't want the girls to have the guy try and retaliate against them in some way.
Where’s the fancy pen thread? Couldn’t find it via search. I bought a remarkable 2 which I love and want to upgrade the pen and need a case for it.
My across the street neighbors had a falling out a few years ago. They are fine now but it was a site to behold. The wife was throwing furniture out the front door and into the yard and husband was just standing there watching. She even dragged a sofa out. When it was over it looked like a couple rooms worth of shit was just piled up in the front yard halfway broken.
