she's the best. they claim she is just an american bulldog / boxer mix, but I bet there is something else.
Adopted a French bulldog in May. In July, he got a swelling on his head. Two surgeries, many biopsies, etc. and they think it was a cyst caused by a knock on the noggin. We don't know what or when. We never hit him or anything like that. I put him down yesterday while visiting my mom. Buried him in the yard with all my childhood dogs. Only got six months with him. He was 4, and I know he suffered. I want to die.
That’s four dogs down since April 2021. Two at appropriate age, two unexpected and tragic. I can’t keep doing it. Back to positive content. Hug your dags.
Sorry Iron Mickey, man I don't know what to say but thank Zeus they had you to shepherd them through their passage in comfort.
this is the only perspective I can handle. but I still feel accountable for whatever the fuck happened happening on my watch. irrational I know. I threw a lot of money at it. I cleaned him and tried to manage it gently and lovingly every day. I carried him to the end and carried him out. I put him in a pillow case my mom sewed with one of his favorite treats in a hole I dug at my childhood home. if there’s something after this I’ll absolutely find him and my others and demand an audience with the staff. Idk what else there is but a big fat absence between my feet where he slept and at my stairs when I come home.
Anyone else have a dog that sheds like crazy? Looking for a grooming protocol so I can reclaim my cleanliness to some degree
Family Christmas at my brothers place, I’m walking through our bred heifers and Carlos and their heeler Gus are doing their normal dumb shit, picking on the 4H steers. Biting at faces, biting feet, things they never do unless they’re together. I look up in time to see one steer slip on the ice on the concrete pad by the waterer and Carlos underneath. I see him limp away, dragging a back leg and when I get close I see a hoof print of shit squarely on his back. Carlos is dead legging it and still bouncing around because why the fuck would he slow down when his buddy Gus is still at full speed. Gus is so excited he runs himself dizzy and falls down in a seizure, which he’s done before. I’m thinking the worst, finally catch the two assholes and can’t find anything broken. Kennel them and go inside to tell my SIL the vet. Get back outside and open the kennel. They rocket off at 100 mph to chase a cat and eat horse poop, jump on bales. Heelers are as close as you can get to indestructible. Here’s Carlos looking smug and farting cat poop farts.
As it stands this guy will be joining the family in a month or so. Right now the favorite name is Jasper
For small dogs they are the shit. Lost ours just over a year ago and finally feeling ready to bring in another. My older brittany spaniel hasn't seemed the same since so I'm excited for her to get a little buddy back.
Marlon Brando aka The Dogfather aka The Big Booper aka our current foster boi, got adopted today. I’m going to miss him so much but I’m so excited for him
Two things. First is our punk rock golden doodle (our daughter gave her a Mohawk) has never learned how to jump. In some ways it’s useful as she doesn’t have any interest in getting on the bed/sofa. However now that she’s over 60 lbs it would be nice if she could get in the truck herself. It’s not that she’s scared it seems like her spirit animal is an elephant. Anyone had a dog that wouldn’t jump before? Second thing is that my BF Darwin had a Sharpei Fever event while I was driving out to our place on the western slope. By the time I noticed his temp was 105+. No emergency vets closer than grand junction (worst thing about rural life imo) but luckily the wife had packed a go bag with carprofen, cerenia, and a liter of fluids. First time I’d given fluids but it went smoothly (thanks YouTube!) and now today we’re going to a local vet. Was able to keep his temp below 103. Nothing feels quite as good as the ability to handle a medical emergency for a loved one.
Temperature under control. Still his legs seem to bothering him which is part of it. Got a blood urine panel at the local vet and waiting for the results there. I think better but not fully healthy yet.
I’ve been trying For months. Had pups that were hesitant before but this is more like I’m asking her to fly or something. The other pups jump in and she just sits and watches. I’ll put her front paws on the seat and she’ll just sit there. I’ll move her back paw on the running board and she will eventually just walk in. She’s fairly smart but we’re at an impasse here.
Meet good boy Walt. He's been pretty chill the couple times I've met him. Walt is deaf, he does know a few things in sign language. I know we have a lot of people from the PNW on this forum, you can visit Walt at the Southwest Washington Humane Society to see if he's a good fit for you and your family.
Truman is getting older and acquiring more quirks. Some are funny. Some are not. He’s had this bone since he was a puppy. It’s his favorite possession. Doesn’t even chew it anymore. Just carries it around. Will hide it random places. Under a bed, behind couch pillows. His latest quirk is insisting we play fetch w it. He’ll run up drop it and starting nudging me. Try to throw a ball or stuff toy down the hallways. Nope. Won’t go for it. Sorry dude. We’re not playing fetch w a 3lb bone.
Anyone with bulldogs, or similar breeds... I have an OEB, about 1.5 years old and she plays incredibly well, full of energy, but lately she is taking forever to get up from sitting down and seems to be struggling a little to get onto all fours. I can press on her hind legs, tendons, hips and she doesn't show any kind of response, but there's gotta be something going on?
Meet good boy Malachi. He's a 3 year old husky that isn't a huge fan of this shelter stuff. He had diarrhea today but was nice enough to do it on a pile of leaves so it was easier for me to pick up. If you take too long to get his leash out he'll try to expedite the process by jumping on you. Doesn't react much to the other dogs but will try to stare them down. Someone cares enough about him to have prepaid his adoption fee. Malachi's stay has exceeded the shelters average and he would love to meet you. Not sure what I'm doing wrong to embed a map to the shelter.
What's funny about my dog Rajah is that he will demand a walk. If you don't take him he goes bananas at you for not taking him for a walk.
