Made the mistake of clicking that guys twitter to see who the fuck he was and it's an absolute shit show.
No debate anymore… The Bloodline story is the greatest storyline ever in wrestling. What a masterpiece…
Also I’ll get a official report on rumble results and get payouts to those who hit. Congrats Soup on a massive night.
Guys, I had a guy behind me yelling incessantly about every woman being a “bitch” and then just generally having terribly negative opinions about literally everything we saw tonight. During the main event, I turned around to ask him to please just stop yelling all of that in mine and my wife’s ears and his response was “fucking make me.” I simply responded to tell him I spent a lot of money to be there and waited my entire life to be able to afford such a trip and he insisted he did too and that that’s his right. I understand we banter on a message board but please never be that person at an event. I tried to just take the high road and say something for the sake of the women and the kids around us, all of which were just drinking the whole spectacle in and enjoying themselves. I did not fight this person, because he looks like a heart attack will take him from us very soon anyway. Other than that, I was sports-entertained and my wife and I both had a great time. And it’s genuinely tragic and hilarious that one of you guys drew number 30 for the women and number 1 for the men.
I'd consider it top 5 at least from my wrestling memory. SCSA v Vince, Mega Powers explode, Sting v NWO (until payoff), Kane and Taker are others that come to mind from just me thinking off top of my head. This is at that level imo
Bloodline stuff is new layer over layer. Where the Vince stuff was the same story just with replacing the front man to protect Vince. For me we’re at a stage that I’m enjoying this so much and we haven’t even entered the final act.
I need to catch up over the last 10 pages. For starters I’ll say what I assume everybody said: the aftermath of the main was top notch storytelling. A1 perfection. But now let’s get into the part where I’m sure I’ll get some push back. The rest of the show was very meh. Cliff notes version: Nobody thought Gunther was winning. You needed an equal foil vs Cody to build suspense. My watch party (10 of us), was bored with the men’s Rumble. No big surprises, no suspense at the end. Bray/Knight was fucking awful. Hopefully they rehab Knight with the MITB because he’s a star. Bliss/Belair shouldn’t have been on the card. Just bad. Worst women’s Rumble to date. At least they had two viable winners at the end, which built some suspense. Glad they put the rocket on Rhea, she deserves it. The main was skippable. After match like I said was 10/10. But why wouldn’t the entire bloodline be at ringside to make sure Roman retained? Lots of plot holes. Just felt like they mailed it in tonight.
That was an all time great moment but I wouldn't say all time great storyline. Best nwo storyline for me was Sting v nwo, even if we got a shit payoff
Cody from day one has said he only goal was to win the title his dad never could. He once again repeated that in the press conference. I’m curious if he only challenges for that title. It’s a way for WWE to get that big payoff on night two of mania. Gets the title back on RAW. But it also allows Roman to continue on his historic run as champion with the universal title.
Most of those were much more interesting for me. This has been entertaining but feels a bit drawn out. And I'll leave it at that.
Agreed. Main event + fallout - don't think it's really fair to separate the two as the match built up to the fall out - is like a 12 out of 10. Yeah I'm doing some Meltzer going over the 5-star limit thing. But it's deserved. Delivered bigly and I was not going into tonight expecting the turn to happen, a complete swerve. Rest of the show isn't really going to be anything to write home about as the saying goes. Not that I disagree with any of the winners, matches just generally felt underwhelming or worse. Like Dynamite on Wednesday - everything but the main event and the stuff surrounding it was generally mid and felt like little effort was put into it. Which is fine to some degree when the payoff delivers as big as it does. It's nice to have one huge thing you'll remember for years rather than a bunch of above average to good but far less memorable things.
I think part of that is nostalgia doing that to you. Sting went like Sep 96 to Dec 97 without a match during the feud with nwo. You forget the slow moving parts as time moves on and just remember the highlights
Payoffs have almost become exclusively to just WM and SummerSlam, hoping that changes with some of the reduction of PLEs
Which WM matches early on are we probably looking at? Assuming that Rhea chooses Bianca Rollins vs Logan Paul Charlotte vs Ronda Becky vs Bayley Lesnar vs Lashley Whatever they do with Roman, Cody, Sami
No, that was the least interesting one for me - I wasn't into WCW at the time and learned about that one later on. But the others I followed pretty closely at the time - the Mega Powers was especially well done with Hogan, Savage and Elizabeth building that storyline nicely. You could see Savage's snap coming for a while so when he finally exploded, it was glorious.
Mega Powers Explode is definitely one of the all-time great angles and happy some of you brought that up. (Savage is a level only below a few in this business. Savage’s ability to both go on the mic and in the ring is just unparalleled.) Then that somewhat leads to WM6 with Hogan/Warrior when face vs face was pretty much never done. And then Warrior/Savage retirement match at WM7. Shocking that pretty much anything done with in-prime Savage was awesome…And he should’ve gotten a better pin over Flair at WM8
I see Liv Morgan winning the elimination chamber and challenging Charlotte. There’s a storyline they can revisit to tie it all together.
Chamber usually has the title on the line. And aren't they trying to push Charlotte as a face now? Liv would be an odd matchup if that's what they are hoping for
Guess the rumors of her utilizing the “Karen” character are true. Can’t wait, she’s hilarious Can’t think of any other big time heel to challenge her at WM, unless it’s Shayna.
Watched the men's rumble with my 7 yr old son. He was hyped throughout, but the biggest pops came from Cody winning and the New Day butt slapping spot.
I don’t think the turn was flat, but weirdly eventually the bearings went on too long. The crowd popped again when Jey left, and maybe I’m just getting soft, but that brutal a beat down a day after the Memphis stuff was released was just weird to me personally. It’s just a personal thing for me. No big deal.
nobody cheered for either of my people so I knew I had no chance but I was still entertained, thanks Bankz
Sami doesn’t need the title to complete the storyline. He just needs to beat Roman. So, Bloodline injures Sami on Smackdown, Sami comes back at WM to cost Roman. Cody gets his win. Sami completes storyline with Roman at Summerslam. Roman takes a break. Fin.
Sami vs Roman next PPV. Roman wins. Sami/KO vs Usos at Mania night one main-event (Roman vs Cody main events night two). Sami/KO win due to Uso in-fighting, spinning off to a full-blown Uso family war in the Spring. But that's just a little of what I predict and a little of what I would do.
you forgot the part where Sami joins the Nightmare Family and says "Wrestling has more than 1 island of relevance" and becomes Sami Rhodes and celebrates with Goldust, Brandi, Pharaoh the dog and QT Marshall
Wow, I totally forgot I booked the best angle in WWE years ago. Just didn’t know they would have Sikoa pretending to be Joe.
She sucks so bad. I would rather watch Top Dolla main event WM for the next 5 years than watch Nia in the 3rd match of the night on Raw.
