Really good second episode. I never heard of the game prior to the show so I cant compare it to the game but the second episode flew by. I didnt even look up at the clock once.
Do they still need a battery? I thought that was just the original plot until they have to take the girl now. also i think it’s getting so much love because is such a great adaptation plus it stands alone if you have never played the game. I never played the game. But after each episode I go back and watch the complete gameplay footage until I get to the episode and it makes me appreciate it even more
I've only seen the first episode but the daughter deserved to die for using a metal spatula on a non-stick pan
yeah, I was laboring under the belief that obtaining the battery was the initial goal and once they agreed to transport the girl they would be outfitted with whatever they wanted so the battery became moot and yes I didn't even know the game existed until the show was announced. I have no reference point for this content and I'm slurping it up every Sunday evening now
Yeah, I read someone either in this thread or the other one mention earlier in the week that this episode was supposed to be one of the best of the season and I was expecting something crazy. This was not crazy. It was beautiful. The added bonus of getting to downvote and read people shitting on all the bigoted assholes on reddit who were mad seeing Ron Swanson kiss a dude is a lot of fun.
I thought that was a really good episode of TV. just to clarify - at the end of ep1, right when they left the room in the sanctuary city or whatever these call it (QZ?) the radio plays the Depeche Mode song and we were led to believe 80s meant trouble. It actually just meant something happened to bill and frank, correct? The counter wasn’t reset and it played 80s. So when it came over the radio, they were already dead?
Minor plot hole. Or just silliness. Bill is out there standing in the open w a hunting rifle when he has that big ass arsenal. That was the moment the big moment he prepped for and doesn’t use a better firearm? Booooo
There’s zero chance a realistic scene would have him out there but hey it was quite dramatic and looked cool
Ellie calls Bill fat, then steals his gay porn mags and says "ew these pages are stuck together". Such depth.
Give me specific dialogue of their banter that was so much better than what was in the show last night. It literally is nothing more than a smartass teenager and a bitter old man bickering at each other for a couple of lines.
Lol you’re unhinged. For a character than was in the game for a 20 minutes and never heard of again? Show Bill was 10000x better
Again, if you guys have to lie and say Bill was only in the game 20 minutes (did you speed run it?)…go right ahead. I’m not going to convince you…you‘ve already reduced everything about him in the game. He’s a guy who is in the game 20 minutes who endures a couple of fat jokes from Ellie. Yep, that’s game Bill. As opposed to show Bill, who got roughly 45 minutes.
Please share the depths of his character that we got to experience in the game. We got a dozen beautiful moments with him in the show. It’s not even close. It’s such a massive improvement over the game.
Please go to the game player thread and let us enjoy this show since we don’t give a fuck about the game.
as a non-game player I made the mistake of opening that thread one time. never again. I don't mind hearing backstory of points we are past already on the show, but that thread is just one spoiler after another.
yeah I looked once after the first episode, never again. This is one of those shows I'm content to consume and not have to know every single difference between the two mediums. Don't want spoilers, just along for the ride
I mean, the first game has been out for almost a decade so it’s going to be hard to avoid spoilers even if you just google something. I’d advise not even doing that. Enjoy the show for what it is and don’t worry about any differences there are to the game. I don’t remember shit from the game in regards to this weeks episode. I never even beat the game so honestly I don’t know what all happens.
The official HBO podcast is really good for this. It's the two directors. One made Chernobyl and the other was one of the guys who made the game. They take a little bit to discuss the differences and why they made them. Pretty interesting to me as someone who didnt play the game.
This is the thread on the TV board, so agreed it should be only about the show. Little game insight is ok but it’s the show thread. Same as the GoT threads.
This weeks officialpod was absolutely fantastic. I’d check it out if you’re into that sort of thing. Lots of backstory on the episode, including (and I hate even mentioning it in this thread bc who the f cares) a good discussion about why they made the decisions they did from game to tv. also some great stories about filming and casting. Apparently Nick Offermans first dialogue “Not today, you new world order jackboot fucks” was actually just direction, to put the actor in the right state of mind. And offerman said “yeah, this needs to be said out loud”
Also Murray Bartlett (frank) is apparently a fantastic musician and singer, which makes the piano scene even better
