there are so many different variables across eras you're never going to get anywhere playing the hypotheticals.
This now leads to the same question that arose with the Rangers decision - which Russian Orthodox (or morally opposed) player are the Islanders likely trying to protect here?
I’m pretty sure both Shesterkin and Panarin wore them last year. But not entirely sure if they are or not the reason the Rangers took the stance they did. Either way, the Provorov situation opened a can of worms for sure.
I guess I shouldn’t even be surprised at this cowardice from the Islanders organization. Since they aren’t mandated by the league to wear these jerseys/tape they won’t do it. Apparently the only warmup jerseys that are mandated by the nhl are hockey fights cancer, military, and st patrick’s day. Not sure if the organization is trying to protect player(s), or if they’re just punting on the topic since they can do so, but the Islanders continuously do the bare minimum on any topic that isn’t related to the “Lou rules”. It says all you need to know that St. Patrick’s day stuff is valued over initiatives like Hockey is for Everyone. And I say this as someone who is very Irish (Catholic school through hs and the only member of my family to not attend Notre Dame) and a sucker for anything with a shamrock on it. In conclusion - I’m never surprised by nhl with regards to their incompetence, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be disappointed by it.
It’s absolutely pathetic that the NHL values St Pattys Day over inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community. Should be a fireable offense at this point.
Obviously the flags were already there, but Jake Virtanen must be an unbelievably shitty person. He's playing in the second tier swiss league, (A league considered below the NCAA) is their highest rate producer, and his teammates went to their head coach and basically gave him an ultimatum to get him off the team. (He's suspended and on the trade block) Teammates in sports will overlook almost anything if you're good.
Really can’t believe the stars are the best team in the west. Guess that’s what happens when Seguin and Benn aren’t playing like complete shit bags
Stars lead the western conference helped by 10 loser points and only have 5 less total losses than the Blues who are 9 points out of a playoff spot. Need a 3-2-1 system asap
If Dallas was in the East, I’d rate them as such: 1. Boston 2. Carolina 3. Toronto 4. Tampa 5. New Jersey 6. Dallas
yeah I agree but I do think they’re as good as anyone in the west, if not the best team. At least until colorado gets their shit together and that wildly exceeded my expectations considering I predicted them to be a middling WC team again
the stars are generally the exception to this rule in the playoffs. they usually exceed expectations it’s just getting to the playoffs that’s usually the hard part for them. I expected them to be swept last year by the flames
I have a hard time ranking teams mid-season after teams like the Kings won a Cup, coasted in the regular season thereafter, and learned to just flip the on/off switch when it matters. Until they’re eliminated by someone, I still think Colorado is better than any team in the West. And I’m not sure it’s particularly close assuming they get back to health.
Fletcher won’t survive the Summer, will he? It’s obvious Tortorella isn’t going anywhere, so that might be an interesting dynamic if/when Philly looks for a new GM.
I don't know how he survived last summer so who knows. Comcast doesn't seem to care. it was noticeable that the most recent letter to season ticket holders was signed by Torts and not Fletcher.
FML "The Seattle Kraken placed leading scorer Andre Burakovsky on injured reserve Thursday with a lower body injury. Burakovsky's leg appeared to buckle during his first shift of Tuesday's game against the New York Islanders, and he played just 31 seconds in the 4-0 loss. Burakovsky had appeared in 49 of the first 50 games in his first season with Seattle after signing as a free agent. He leads the Kraken with 39 points (13 goals, 26 assists) and is averaging a career-high 16:33 of ice time per game. He is one of six Seattle skaters with at least 30 points this season."
Weird feeling. He is up there for my all time favorite players. Knew it was happening but still feels bad in a way
Im getting absolutely nothing done until I see this return. Have a conf call in an hour. This could get dicey
