I watched Mandy the other night and really wanted to like it but it was just not very good. I like the style and thought the first half of the movie was great. Second half of the movie is a big let down. If it was a more serious movie I think it could've been good.
Yeah, I'm with you. I kept waiting for it to take off but it remained stalled on the runway. At the time I put the blame on the director who I thought did a terrible job - all style, zero substance.
Yeah, I don't mind some Cage weirdness but for some reason it feels so out of place in this one. You spend the whole first half of the movie getting to know Mandy, and I was in on that. And then it is all about Red who we don't know anything about from the first half. Over the top gore and boring revenge story.
It’s the funniest ending I’ve ever seen to a film that otherwise presents itself as having loftier, more pretentious ambitions.
Perhaps, but I'm not sure they could have gone down the same road - I happened across it yesterday and the book ending is VERY fucking dark.
I haven’t read the book. I have to say that I don’t think M Night completely stuck the landing on the ending. But it was lightyears better than some of his other recent films
No, I agree with all of that. And yeah, I'd argue it's his best movie since Signs. As far as the book ending is concerned, the basics are as follows: Spoiler In the final act when everything starts turning to shit, Wen is accidentally shot and killed when Andrew & Leonard struggle. The last remaining invader helps subdue Leonard and executes him, then kills herself. Eric and Andrew basically say GFY to the world & walk down the road carrying Wen's body as the world burns. Lovely family entertainment.
The acting was great. The story was solid. I'm glad I watched it, but I don't know if I'll ever watch it again.
Infinity Pool is a slow decent into madness. I want to sit down with Mia Goth and Alex Skarsgard to know what makes them tick.
Great premise. Hope they do a better job with it than Sorkin (who is usually great) did with Moneyball, which was just ok ...
Loved the book, love Sorkin. Could have been better. Billy Beane is actually much more interesting and complex than Pitt made him out to be. And I love Pitt. Hated the daughter and his dynamic with her ...
It was good, it was not awesome. Next you're going to tell me The Rookie with Dennis Quaid was great ...
After having a kid and watching the ending where he is listening to her song gets me right in the feels.
Hastily put together top 8 Sports movies of the last 15 years imo: 1. Rush (If you can count formula 1) 2. Bleed For This 3. MacFarland, USA 4. The Wrestler (debatable if it counts bc fake wrestling) 5. Moneyball 6. I, Tonya 7. Creed 8. Win Win Honorable Mention: Eddie the Eagle, Foxcatcher, Secretariat, The Fighter, Warrior, 42, American Wrestler (100% bias on this one), Pawn Sacrifice (If chess counts), Invincible Remember The Titans, Million Dollar Baby, Cinderella Man, We Are Marshall, Friday Night Lights, Seabiscuit, Miracle and a bunch more all came out in the first 8 years of the 2000s. Pretty impressive first 8 years, tbh. Edit: Peanut Butter Falcon is KIND of about pro wrestling, and would be 1 or 2 if I included it. I didn't because it's only a little bit about a fake sport.
That's some good recon there. You are right about the films in the early 2000s - very good list. Thought Miracle was the best of the bunch. Really liked I, Tonya and Win-Win from your first list and love Warrior from the HMs. Bleed for This had the worst soundtrack I've ever heard in a movie and made it a terrible viewing experience. PB Falcon was great ...
I don’t think it’s dogshit but I don’t like it as much as others. Seemed too campy in some places. Whole team singing in the locker room and synchronized dancing during warmups.
the target audience for a ben affleck/matt damon/jason bateman/viola davis drama is much, much larger than sneakerheads and jordan fans hth
Plane was fine. Some better actors than you would expect in it but felt like some things got cut out that might have made it better.
It has 2 parts so this is guaranteed not the last movie. Well I guess not guaranteed, but there’s an intention to release 2 fast ten movies
