Watched with a group and never really noticed it in real time. Nobody said anything about it that I was around. Rewatched long highlights and I see a lot of hard cuts here and not a lot of slipping and sliding. Pacheco almost fell on his ass on the paint in the back of the end zone after his score but otherwise idk man. At least not more than normal games on grass.
There's minor tugs on receivers at the line on most passing plays. If they called it every time, we'd have 20+ flags per game and the game would be miserable to watch.
Ngl I had my eyes in the backfield that whole time keeping tabs on the family and didn’t really catch what Patrick said at the desk live
Zero sacks by Philly is incredible I'm thinking about this because it's cool and also because my friend was yelling at the TV about it because of some dumb parlay
I value consistency over anything. Like if an ump in baseball calls the high strike. If you consistently call it, cool. But if you ring up someone on a high pitch to end the World Series when you haven't called it all game, fuck that. That's what happened last night.
You don't think that players would adjust? They'd just keep getting called for the same penalty over and over?
Cool. We know you and what you’re about. The last three pages will mean nothing when it affects you. That’s why I’m cool with moving on.
I think this is just the first half too. not shown here: a kicker eating shit on a kickoff. a kicker taking a shortened run-up because he was on the paint, and dozens of other slips I gotta say it's most likely your group just missed it than it didn't happen
By the book? Sure. By how they called the rest of the game and how its normally called? No. If refs call that type of play every time (and players didn't adjust), we'd have 20+ flags a game. That type of tug is very common and is normally not called. It's like OL holding, you can call it almost every play if you want to but only the most egregious are normally called. That wasn't egregious and is normally not called.
Except in this analogy there isn’t an ump calling anything consistently. It’s basically not calling a corner in the second inning and saying you should no longer call corners. I asked him for other missed calls that would have made his point and he had nothing because he has nothing.
They didn't call the corner on 65 previous pitches and decided to end the world series on a corner pitch. Again, you're really making yourself look dumb with the "I need proof!" bit. You and I both know that type of tug is very common. Stop being a nit about it.
The plays in those highlights are not that uncommon for football games on grass. I know it's the Super Bowl so everything should be perfect but that doesn't look like, appreciably worse than normal. Grass gives way more than field turf. With that said I don't honestly care enough to continue to debate it.
It was far worse than any game I can remember watching. Like it was super noticeable to me. And the players seem to think it was worse than what they're used to as well
I mean one of the starting QBs had to change his cleats because of the turf. multiple players said it was appreciably worse than normal, too.
Balls and strikes are all vibes about where they think the ball crossed an invisible line. Holding requires, well, holding onto someone, which happened.
I'm used to watching Nebraska play Northwestern on tall grass with crazy long cleats so it could be that my standards are incredibly low.
the refs are specifically looking for the defender to grab at the receiver's hip on out-breaking routes like that, though. The refs don't get the call right every time because of how fast everyone on that field is
if you grab a guys jersey in front of an official it will be called very often. it was a shitty way for the game to end and I get the controversy, but the Eagles had a 10 pt lead, blew it, and put themselves in a situation to lose on a penalty because Andy took Gannon to school for the entire second half it was an awesome game and I would love to never see dbl post about a tug ever again
I am a huge lifelong AU fan and graduate and I am one of those rare fans that has always liked hoops as much as football going back to the Bob Davis teams. The issue is not coaching. You pick any coach on any team in football pro or college, and the results will be the same. The deck is stacked against us unfortunately and each new rule change that comes about, gives more power to the NCAA, the replay booth, the SEC office, TV, and yes refs on the field to control the outcome of games. The reason I mention basketball is the combined Cooper situation and the current multi year NCAA investigation into Pearl. There is no doubt in my mind that the NCAA has decided to do all they can to “clip our wings” and slow down the incredible momentum of Auburn hoops. No other team would face this situation. Is it driven by Bama influences at the NCAA...looks like that is at least a possibility. Game yesterday: How many times did CBS announcers say in referencing Bama...” well they got away with that one.” ( Several of their big plays) How many times did they say Re AU...”missed that one” or “I guess techniquely that was a tug.” (Bo’s first down run) Each on calls at a key point early in game when we were still in it and starting to move the ball. And “we all missed that one” on Seth’s shirt being ripped off making it look like a bad throw from our QB. It’s not just AU games. Bama plays with reckless abandon with no real concern from bad calls. If they get them earn them like it’s supposed to be. Targeting no reviews unless game is out of hand, PI? Different rules. Holding? Better be blatant. They are the best team...yes they should be and should be downright ridiculed if they lose one game. Their advantage is that great. So back to my point and I will finish...as long as Bama is allowed to play by a different set of rules the head coach at Auburn will face same situation. The best way to fight them is to unite and stand behind those young men that fight their guts out. And stand behind Gus and our coaching staff that have to face these odds. Get over the fact we pay our coach big money and act like true Auburn family members and be a bit slower to criticize. WDE!
Someone on ESPN pointed out that most the guys on the Eagles defense were wearing black gloves which should have been a no-no since the chiefs were wearing white.
They spent multiple segments during the game talking about it. They reported from both sidelines what each team was or wasn’t doing to combat the issue. That is a wild take to say it didn’t happen
