I really like Haunt but I am also a sucker for haunted house type movies. Hell Fest is dumb and predictable but I absolutely love it, Blood Fest is not nearly as good but a fun one as well.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before but if you want a brutally depressing surreal horror flick check out POSSUM. Directed and written by the guy who created and starred in the amazing Garth Marengie’s Darkplace. also THREADS is severely depressing
Solid is the right term. I kept waiting for it to go off the rails or the dialogue to get stupid (which was Old's biggest problem), but it never did. Not sure I believed Spoiler Eric's sudden acceptance of the apocalypse & the need for one of them to die - that felt badly paced but that was my only minor complaint. All the performances, especially Dave's, were very good.
If it's James Wan, it more than likely sucks ass. I enjoyed the first Conjuring, but most of his stuff is terrible.
Speaking of Wan, I’ll definitely watch this — https://bloody-disgusting.com/movie...etting-a-feature-film-from-a24-and-james-wan/
Damnit, didn't realize earlier when I read about it that James Wan would be behind it. The YouTube videos are pretty good. Maybe having that A24 label slapped on it will make him step his game up.
yeah I’m hoping having this source material and A24 backing will result in better results than he’s produced recently
Given that I've got the DVD sitting on my shelf ready to watch at some point, I'm really not sure what to expect.
I enjoyed Infinity Pool. An absolute fever dream of a film with original concepts that I wish Brandon Cronenberg would have explored a bit more. I also didn't know his father wrote/directed Crimes of the Future.
The exploration of slightly mentioned concepts is similar to how I felt about his other film, Possessor.
I was looking for a sci fi/fantasy/horror movie to watch and realized I’ve never seen A Quiet Place 2
Not sure how to describe it, it took 2 watches for me to love it, the first go around I had no clue what they were aiming for. I quit taking it seriously and fell in love.
Finally saw M3GAN today. It wasn't bad - high production values & some amusing moments which hid some sketchy acting from the bit players. I look forward to seeing it again & watching it properly without having to tolerate noisy simpletons at the cinema.
Is shudder pretty good? I’m a big horror movie fan and re-upping my Peacock account to watch M3GAN today but I’m always looking for new or even old horror movies to watch that I know I’ve missed
Watched Super Dark Times last night. More of a thriller but had never heard of it. Pretty solid. Donnie Darko vibes.
If Shudder offered 4k they’d be the best steamer going imo. Tons of catalogue and consistent good/decent releases.
Watched the newest Satans Slaves on Shudder — much slower burn than the first but still really solid. That director is doing cool shit. I’ve never seen Impetigo though.
But yeah, between the documentaries, specials/exclusives, Joe Bob Briggs, extensive library of old Horror put into thematic collections, Shudder is definitely the best value streaming app by far.
Question for the room: Are the Terrifier movies any good? I know nothing about them but they seem to have a pretty good standing in the horror world.
First one is very much an homage to the 80s slashers that were considered “too cruel and gory” during their era. Terrifier 1 takes that to 11 and Art the Clown is on the cusps of being a horror villain icon (he’s just not mainstream yet).
Watched Deadstream again the other day, that's a really fun movie if you haven't seen it yet (Shudder)
The only real criticism I would have is that the last half hour was very 'by-the-numbers' and the movie was revealed to be a bit lacking in substance. But up until then I was quite enjoying it and I look forward to just going with the flow the next time I watch it.
I read there is an unrated version on whatever app it's streaming on now. At least I think I read that.
