Getting out of work early on a Friday, smoking a few bowls and soaking up some sun on the balcony with an elite book
Hahaha bruh I can’t get over this shit Kind of want to send a copy to every republican official in Florida to watch their heads explode
Bright Side Bookshop in Flagstaff is my local indie store. They're doing a 25% sale today If you wanna order some books from a woman-owned shop please use the code HAPPYBIRTHDAY at checkout for your 25% discount Just ordered a couple Sebastian Barry books
Ive never read Towles, but he's also on my list. Everyone seems to rave about him. I started The Wolf by Leo Carew this weekend. Fantasy trilogy w the premise that several different species of humans evolved in Europe. Not too far into it, but excited to read more. So far pretty action heavy. One dude has a war hammer named Marrow Hunter. One of the more badass weapon names Ive seen imo.
Yeah, I read a Gentleman in Moscow a couple years ago and it’s probably one of my favorite novels. It was really good, he has a new book to The Lincoln Highway. May be a good option for a book club book later this year.
Started last night around 10:30 and just finished it everyone should go and buy this book immediately
When I was reading Main Street I saw that f Scott Fitzgerald wrote a letter to Sinclair Lewis saying that Main Street was his favorite book since the damnation of Theron ware A little more than halfway through Theron ware right now and it’s excellent
The keys to reading a lot imo: - no kids - no significant other - legal weed - a south-facing balcony in a region that gets 280 days of sun each year
Just wanted to post again that thriftbooks is the titty. If you’re buying physical books take a look on there. Almost everything is $5 or less and if you spend $15+ per order shipping is free
Been reading We Are Bellingcat by the guy who started it and it's pretty good. I feel like the guy is up his own ass a little bit but the methodology is really interesting and the fact that they pretty much created and use intelligence tradecraft that is pretty similar to what I've used and seen used is pretty fascinating.
I grew up a pretty voracious reader and almost always had a book with me wherever I went. Sometime within the past 5-10 years, that has fallen off considerably, but I've been working to change that the past 6 months or so. It's been so nice not being glued to my phone so much (mainly TMB, NYTimes/news, don't really do games or SM). It's tough reading the news now, relying on digital sources + phone distractions, but I feel like I have better focus after spending more time reading actual books. It's also made me aware of how unorthodox or even inappropriate having a book can feel. Looking at one's phone is the default now, and I notice that I will get strange looks reading an actual book. Also, I feel a bit strange reading a book around my family or in other settings, like I'm detached from them, but haven't ever really noticed that feeling if I was reading something on my phone. It just seems normal to look at your phone, but something about a book feels inappropriate. Idk if that even makes sense to anyone... (I need to move to a state with legal weed), but I've spent a lot of time thinking about our relationships with phones/technology lately It also helps that my 6 year old has always been very into books and is now into listening to audiobooks while he plays Lego or whatever. It's pretty awesome to see and he's always looking for others + he's starting to read and just the joy he gets out of it has been infectious.
If you’re interested, the words and whiskey podcast just started and is doing a read along. They post episodes after every handful of chapters. They’re 2-3 episodes into Jade City They’ve also done all the Red Rising books and a few Mistbourn books
Matthew Desmond has a new book out. “Evicted” was amazing, really want to read this one: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/675683/poverty-by-america-by-matthew-desmond/
Finished the last Stella Remington book last night. If anyones looking for easy/quick read spy thrillers I highly recommend
I want to read them all but I have one thick ass volume with everything and it’s too unwieldy. Nothing more exhilarating than watching Holmes take apart a scene
Getting dumped on right now but still gonna walk over to the indie bookstore and pick up my copy of Sebastian Barry's new book this afternoon. So stoked
