I liked it, was entertained. Probably wouldn't watch again. Like a Japanese Guy Ritchie film. Really like the actor from Atlanta and the assassin girl. And Brad Pitt is sexier now than 20 years ago. What a dreamboat.
It had a few moments (Mike Epps and Deon Cole were great) but the plot points were contrived and exhausting. I saw someone point out that they already made a better version of “Jonah Hill in guess who’s coming to dinner” in 22 Jump Street.
I watched Tar this afternoon, and really enjoyed it. Blanchett is incredible and deserves all the awards.
Watched LeBron's House Party last night. I was a huge fan of '90 version with Kid & Play, Martin Lawrence, etc. so I was really skeptical going in. Wasn't great, wasn't horrible. Lot of low hanging fruit jokes about LBJs career, a couple solid cameos...Kid Cudi was fucking incredible. 6/10
Watching On The Waterfront for the first time. I learned about Elia Kazan snitching to HUAC before I ever saw the whole movie. Pretty amazing that every snitch in the movie is a martyr.
All the bullshit going on between Styles, Wilde & Pugh just turned me off the whole thing. Otherwise I probably would have tried to squeeze it in sometime.
Most recently watched: Heat (9/10)- really amazing action and dialogue but there's some parts that stretch credulity. Natalie Portman's character probably could've been removed from the movie entirely. I'll be quoting Vincent Hanna for a long time. Great film though. Children of Men (twice) (10/10) - Incredible. My favorite scifi movie of the 21st century. Cocaine Bear (4/10)- there's a bear. It loves cocaine. If the whole movie was just the bear doing things while on cocaine it'd probably be a 6. Ambulance scene was hilarious. Inside Man (5/10) - This movie is so weird. Really feels like Clive Owen and Denzel were playing parts from different scripts. The way that bigotry is addressed in this movie is pretty clumsy at times, hasn't agreed well at all.
This was kind of my feel about it when I watched it years ago. It gets great reviews but it felt disjointed and kind of clunky. I didn't hate it but I didn't get the reviews either
Well, the same guy (levinson) is the creator (and writer/director/etc) of both so yeah. Also wrote Assassination Nation, which has a similar foundation. BTW, the second tweet is worse. To that end, I have no interest in reading the original reporting.
It would be the least surprising thing I’ve ever heard if it comes out that Sam Levinson is a serial rapist
Watched Armageddon Time on Peacock. Great acting from the kid, Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong and Anthony Hopkins in an oft-nominated film. Boring as fvck, checked 6x to see how much time was left at various points. 5.5/10 - don't bother ...
I'm halfway thru Banshees of Inisherin and it's absolutely great. I really, really like Barry Keoghan as an actor. And Colin Farrell, but that goes without saying.
Tragedy and comedy come hand in hand, and it's incredible how much the script accomplishes with such a small premise. The film does dig deep into the dark side of human nature. Farrell and Gleeson prove their incredible chemistry, and the space they are given to perform makes them shine.
Banshees was my favorite film from last year. I just wish Farrell, Gleeson and Mcdonagh would just spend the rest of their time on this earth together, making movies for me
I have an anxious personality and attachment style so I really resonated with Colin Farrell's character. Hit very close to home.
Elvis was better than I expected. The first 30-40 minutes of it are wild. Overstayed its welcome in the last acts imo. Austin Butler was so good though.
It’s on Mubi and you can probably get a free trial. You can just sign up for it as an add on to Amazon prime video if you have that
Their user interface leaves a lot to be desired and it’s a little frustrating because I think they have a way better movie selection in other countries but there’s enough there to warrant the 6 dollars a month or whatever it is thru prime. I usually do try to use the JustWatch app to find what’s on there rather than the actual Mubi app because there’s not really a good way to sift thru titles.
Also, Burning is on Mubi if you haven’t seen that. Not exactly a Korean crime drama, but it’a adjacent to that and is one of the best movies of the last decade.
