on second thought, them leaving for the NFL doesn't bother me as much as them going to fucking alabama
It's the sign of a healthy program to see your position coaches leave for OC jobs or NFL jobs and your OC/DCs leave for head coaching jobs or NFL jobs. It's the sign of a kick in the nuts to have it happen at the start of spring practice after no 10 win seasons and your OC leaving for a lateral job.
It would be a real kick in the nuts for recruiting which is why we like the staff so much in the first place Especially Stuckey
I do not believe this. Athletics is different, of course, but that would be out of sync with the rest of the university
Yeah, I am skeptical here as well. Jack isn’t perfect, but he also isn’t dumb. This is management 101 shit right here.
And the university as a whole has been more generous with raises the last two years than most of our peers. Again, athletics is its own thing, but I just flat out don’t believe this would happen.
Honestly if everyone is interviewing it sounds like they are taking advantage of this thing being a drive away and getting some practice/networking. I’d be more worried if it was only 1 or 2 guys. i also don’t but the No raises trying, that would be disastrous for any team worth a damn.
ND has no trouble retaining elite talent In the finance department Schultz, Battalio, McDonald, and Loughran aren't going anywhere.
More like stay in position to make a run if the landscape changes but generally not agree to get into the tomfoolery. Although, Sampson has been touring significant engagement with FUND and nil over the last month or so, so who knows
huh that picture wasn't showing up but it was a picture of lucy pulling the football away from charlie brown
It’s a slow period. Anything to rile up the fanbase will do. Stay vigilant amigos, we have been burned far too many times by people “close to the program” on message boards before. A healthy dose of skepticism is usually prudent in these situations.
Re Mayer and his draft spot. I think he could easily be the first taken but it isn't the consensus it once was. It only takes one team to make that move for him or the other guys and that isn't necessarily consensus. If he is taken first, it will be because drafting TE's early is a crap shoot and he will be the guy that a team trusts his floor because he has been used in an NFL style already and there is less projection involved. From Nate Tice today: "Most college offenses don’t highlight their tight ends, instead using them in an “off” alignment that can limit the types of routes and run concepts available. NFL evaluators have to figure out how to extrapolate a TE’s future, then, from a handful of plays. But that’s why size, athleticism and traits are so important, and this year’s class has an exciting mix of all three." "Strengths As mentioned, most college offenses don’t highlight their tight ends. Notre Dame, however, used Mayer all over its formations and asked him to handle a wide variety of assignments. Mayer aligned in-line, as a wing, in the backfield and split out — sometimes, all on the same drive. Mayer is a willing blocker with good functional play strength, and I think he has been underrated as an athlete and route runner. He has explosiveness out of breaks, polish on his routes and strong hands at the catch point. He will be a quarterback’s best friend on underneath and intermediate routes: Mayer is a do-everything type that already has proof of concept for however an NFL offensive coordinator might want to use him. He is a true three-down player. And because he has such a positive impact on so many facets of the game, he can be moved around to wherever he’s needed to help his teammates. Being on the field (and being a plus player) for a high percentage of snaps is an extremely valuable trait. Every offense would love to add Mayer."
he's going to be an amazing NFL TE. would i draft him in the first round? probably not. but would i like him on my team? uh yes.
From Prister: To follow up on Football Scoop's story indicating that Brian Mason has interviewed with an NFL team...The word out of Indianapolis is that Mason interviewed with the Colts. Nothing official but it looks like there is a strong chance that Mason will be headed to the NFL.
Maybe he should be in South Bend trying to make sure he doesn't have a coaching staff at the end of the weekend?
Having conversations with Mason and Stuckey? Working on new titles for them? Meeting with Jack in person to discuss the importance (or non-importance) of giving coaches raises if what was posted above was true? Contacting other ST coordinators and WR coaches if they seem like they are gone?
1. This is why hiring a 1st time HC at ND is never a good idea. You need someone that has real experience navigating all this additional shit. 2. Jack has more power in all of this regardless. He’s the one who basically let all of our assistants know that he’s not investing. He’s more culpable than Freeman. But again to point 1, an experience HC to push back on that would certainly be nice too.
Why can this not all be done over phone/zoom? I'm guessing he's in the area recruiting and decided to pop in the for game. I doubt he traveled all the way there just to watch ND WBB in the first round of the ACC tournament where they are gonna win by a lot.
Guys, I think it’s time to move on from MF. If he’s not sitting in his office nervously refreshing Twitter like all of us does he even really care?
LOL I'm as big of a MF fan as anyone, but it looks pretty awful to publicly fumble your first massive hire in part after taking your preferred candidate to a hockey game, then be at a game in North Carolina when a report drops that 1/3 of your staff is currently interviewing right now I'm not a football coach so have no clue what a "normal coach" would be doing, but doubt Nick Saban's view would be "stinks their gone lets move on:
lol have a beer dude it’s Friday- I’m sure Freeman has a finger on his staff. Half these dudes are his friends
It’s not big in college football right now with how much of a mess the NCAA is. There have been a few stories put out about how NFL jobs just got that much more attractive vs college based on NIL, transfer portal, etc.
