in North Texas (8a), we have gone back and forth between 30s and tiny windows of 60s & 70s (touching 82 one a single day).

It was 40 this morning but I fully expect my PE application today to have been too late due to the above.

    Certainty, Celsius, Tribute Total.

Celsius and Certainty actually work better in higher temps. A lot of herbicides have temperature restrictions.

When you break em off does it smell like onions? wolfpck

We had an infestation of those in a couple of neighborhood parks a while back and every time they came to mow the parks you almost couldn't breath outside without tearing up like you were slicing an onion

This is us here in central too
Been 90 now 44 and back and forth and again
The timing sucks too, seems to ne nice and sunny all week then cold and shitty on the weekends

I put out corn gluten the weekend before the ice storm
May have been too early, may have gotten washed away or too deep by the precipitation, I dunno.

Question for you yard ppl....got zeon zoysia sod last year. Have. 3-4 bare spots. I'd like to try to fill in with plugs, but it seems no one sells Zeon plugs. Don't think I can find any of the bare spot or seed for zeon either.

Should I try to rake down/cut in some sod pieces? Make plugs out of a few rolls of sod?

buy a pro plugger. Backfill holes with sand. Keep transplant plugs watered and they’ll fill in no problem. Do it at height of growing season, July or so.

You use the pro plugger to pull plugs from your lawn and transplant them in the bare spots.

Any help with creeping charlie? Shit is all over my yard. We moved in last year and I just didn’t focus on the lawn besides mowing it. Is this something I can tackle in spring? I’m in NJ still pretty chilly and wet here now.

I got this stuff I believe it’s called T-Zone (black and purple label iirc) and it’s the only thing I’ve had success with. Might take a second application.

Soil temps are still low 30s here but there’s a couple of spots in my yard that are already greening up or so it appears. Most of my yard faces south so it gets sun all day, so maybe that’s helping. Also seems to be in the spots I heavily overseeded last fall.

After dealing with irrigation issues and what seemed like 3 inches of rain all summer, I’m excited to hopefully get the yard recovered this year.

Changed the oil in my mower, and went for my first cut of year. About halfway through, the belt snapped, so I had to go get a new one and replace it. Finished up and have a sprinkler test run going now. Pollen is ridiculous here right now, so my allergies are currently kicking my ass.

Getting geared up for the season. Knocked it down and hauled off the dormant grass. Got my pre emergent down, a bit later than I wanted given the temps here, but was my first availability. Looking forward to some warm weather and green grass.

Anyone know what kind’ve grass this is? It’s either Charleston or Centipede, while I am leaning towards Charleston. I’m in the middle of South Carolina. Trying to overhaul my backyard and deciding to get more of what I have or completely start over one section of the yard at a time.

What/when should I fertilize my yard? Zoysia starting to green up right now. 3/1 I put down some preemergent. Probably going to put down another weed killer around 5/1

Im Bermuda Atlanta/ Roswell. I’m better than a beginner here but I’m not fancy enough to be doing soil tests. I did it once and didn’t care to do again.

I’ll drop a 10-10-10 (13-13-13) as my first application when the weather hangs out consistently in the 60-80s. I did my first application last week. May have been a tad early. Given the annoying drops into the 40s that have been happening, it may have been a bit early. But it’s too hard to gauge so just hit with one application by end of month April. Read the back of the bag to measure how many pounds per square feet. If you don’t know your square feet, there’s Google satellite measurements you can use to get a rough estimate I can try to find and share. Then I’ll hit with another fertilizer application every holiday weekend. Memorial Day. July 4th and Labor Day.

July 4th I’ll aim for a slow release (milorganite) because things with high nitrogen could risk burning. The stuff they sell in the big box stores love to have a high nitrogen, you’ll notice most fertilizers have a high 30-0-6 on them. The 30 is the nitrogen in the nitrogen, phosphorite, potassium ratio. That stuff will really push the grass to grow fast and green. But in the stress of summer heat for lack of a better analogy, it’s like overtraining in the gym. Too much too fast. But Memorial Day and Labor Day a regular Scott’s fertilizer is probably fine.

Bermuda is very forgiving. So don’t need to overthink it too much. Sure you can scalp or have a burn spot. But it’ll grow back pretty well. Just work on killing weeds so you give Bermuda the space it needs to grow.

2 weekends ago I used a Scotts rotary spreader and followed the directions on the back of the bag for weed and feed. Already killing some annoying weeds around my yard. Planting some petunias in a few weekends at the front of my house to make my front beds pop.

By the way , the cost of the weed and feed has gone up significantly like everything else. 2 big bags was like $150.

Should just put it down with the first preemergent. You want the fert to be there when the party starts. Don’t worry about a cold day or two. We’re already onto our first round of weed control in PA.

I’m lazy and pay a company to wage chemical warfare on my lawn. They came a few weeks ago. The following week I noticed the leaves on the bushes in my front yard looked burnt; as if someone held a lighter next to each leaf one by one. Grass was fine.

Was it due to nitrogen? Should have taken a picture. My wife likes to cut things downc so the trees are basically gone, but still wondering if it was nitrogen or aliens

Best Fertilizer/Pre Emergent you can get off Amazon? Looking to do it myself this year. I’m in the Midwest and we just crossed over 80 degrees today but supposed to be in the 40’s all weekend long. Am I to late or right in the window?

Every time I've looked the prices were better at home depot than Amazon.

The one time I found a 50 lb bag of dog food for cheaper on Amazon it cost me more time having to drive and pick it up from the post office that's only open 10am to 3pm, because they shipped it via usps and apparently my mail carrier ain't getting a 50 lb bag out and putting it on the porch

With my new job, I work with some companies that sell/apply fertilizer for the ag side of things. Not 100% comparable but some of it is (nitrogen for example) they all claim that the supply chains have somewhat caught up and their prices are down. I’m hoping that eventually is true for the stuff we’d buy for our lawns but who knows. I’m sure it depends on what kind you’re buying.

I got some pre emergent at a local sod/fertilizer place here and the price seemed lower than it was last year. Not 100% sure on that though. Maybe was the same.

I’m sure some places will sell as high as they can until they notice it actually hurts their overall demand. Or the big companies like Scott’s will sell it high as long as the box stores can pass it on to us.

1st mow of the new house yesterday (5 acres) definitely longer than the .25 acres I mowed in town, took about 3 hours. Gonna need to spray some 2-4d in the next week to knock those dandelions down, hopefully the weather permits.
