He was good in his role last season. He’s going to likely get the biggest contract of any player in FA and as a result, he’s going to end up the #1 guy wherever he goes. I’m not breaking the bank with that kind of risk
Holmes hasn’t spent on FA in the two years he’s been here, and I doubt he starts now. I think he will splurge on one player (probably an LB) and then add some depth. There are plenty of solid corners in FA that are leaps and bounds better than anything we have right now that won’t cost a lot. Add 1-2 guys there and then draft a few corners and see what happens.
We've been a shitty rebuilding team his first two years. Team is in a different position than before. Hard to compare this offseason to past two. Also back to back sentences you said he doesn't spend on FA and probably won't start now then immediately follow with he will splurge on one player. I mean given our cap situation, they won't have much room other than one big signing and filling in spots / bringing back some of our guys. Wouldn't mind if they went LB instead of CB as the big target.
I can't believe I'm saying this but if williams going to get paid, I agree sign vets at 2 of DT, LB and CB and draft a RB. Dare I say Bijan? Or plenty of other solid backs later in draft
I’m curious if/when we restructure any deals. It seems like Ragnow is the easiest restructure because the future cap hit would still be justified by his level of play. If we restructure Goff, it’s basically ensuring he’s our QB next season, so that’s something keep an eye on as well.
Curious if we see a Caminskey deal in the next hour or so. I like him a lot but he probably has a good market waiting for him if he chooses to explore FA. I wouldn’t get into a bidding war for the guy (same with Jamaal)
That’s a really solid deal. Always liked Sutton, and this still keeps us in the DB market be it FA or draft.
Makes sense as Sutton was the only name at any position I ever saw connected to the Lions the last few weeks by national writers.
CB at 6 I think would have been fully factoring in need with talent. Don't think if they are going to go bpa there is any chance someone higher isn't there at 6.
I'm not suggesting Sutton so much impacts 6th pick as I'm saying I don't think there is anyway a CB is going to be the best player available. Thought the only way they'd take a CB at 6 before signing is if they struck out in FA and got desperate and drafted their 2nd or 3rd guy at a position of great need. Not saying Sutton means they can ignore CB now, as I clearly in same post said they'll probably get one later in draft
They absolutely should still take a 1st round CB, whether at 6 or 18, unless Carter is available at 6 and then Bijan is the pick at 18.
Tyree > all the corners at 6. Only way I'm taking a CB at 6 is if Anderson, Tyree and Carter all somehow gone. CB at 18 is definitely an option. If one of top 2 CB fall in the 15ish range I'd even be cool with a slight trade up for one of them. Porter is an option too
Seems like a real nice signing, this is someone I hoped we would get. Pitt fans are bummed. Keeps CB an option but not necessity
Sounds like we could do even less than that. I don’t see why not tbh. He’s better than anyone available after Hooker/McKee in this draft.
