Congrats on making the tournament. Despite the attempted shot at my beloved scarlet knights, I’ll be rooting for y’all, maybe just not as much as the other B1G teams.
Well, I tried. Good luck to Illinois. They got a raw deal, but hoping they can overcome playing an away game in the first round. I-L-L
Oops, mixed up my corn states. Iowa got screwed with what’s effectively an away game. Appreciate you keeping me on my toes there Lip
Congratulations as well to the record-tying 7 B1G schools who made the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament - Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State and Purdue. A few facts about these outstanding program: #Illinois Fightin' Illini made the tournament for the first time in 20 years. #Indiana Hoosiers won the B1G regular season for the first time in 40 years and earned the B1G’s first #1-seed since 2015. #Iowa Hawkeyes won the B1G tourney and is making its fifth consecutive tournament appearance. #Maryland Terrapins is making its 12th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and 30th total (most of any B1G school). #Michigan Wolverines is making its program-best fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. #Ohio State Buckeyes is making its 27th total tournament appearance and will host first and second round games at Value City Arena for the first time since 2018. #Purdue Boilermakers is back in the tournament for the first time since 2017 and will play in the First Four against St. John’s. Congrats as well to #Nebraska Cornhuskers who made the WNIT. Our well wishes are with each of these fine programs.
* we don’t ever wish Purdue well. Ever. also that Iowa guard is extremely unlikeable so fuck them too. Go B1G Go to everyone else though
I hope Iowa flames out just because Iowa women’s basketball is my MIL’s entire existence during the season and she sucks.
2 weekends ago my son went to stay with them about 4 hours away on Thursday and we were going to pick him up at my wife’s sisters, which is about half way, on Sunday. Friday night she decided that we should pick him up Saturday. Ok, fine, nbd. A 3/4 year old is a lot sometimes. So we get to her SIL and she was gone. Dumped and ran. Why, you may ask? She had to get home to watch something uninterrupted. Guess what it was.
Rutgers loses in OT at home in the first round of the NIT against Hofstra. Hofstra outrebounded us and shot 57% from the field. See you all next year. Good luck to everyone in the real tournament.
Congrats to Hofstra. They earned that win. Even after some bad calls went against them and after they fell behind, they showed grit. Wish RU had some of that resilience after Mag went down. Felt like they played not to lose instead of playing to win.
They have a good guard duo in Boo Buie and Chase Audige, but they are better scorers than shooters. Northwestern generally isn't a good shooting team as a whole, but they don't turn the ball over much. But would say they are a better defensive club than offensive. They like to try and slow the game down, but think that would be more disruptive on a team that would want to run more. Don't think that would disrupt UCLA as much as they would against an Arizona, as an example.
They take the "they can't call every foul" approach and are extremely physical. Bouie is good, Audige is decent, rest of the team is pretty mid.
Thoughts on Purdue: 1. Matt Painter is aging in dog years. 2. The FDU coach is aesthetically displeasing. 3. The little numbers on the Purdue uniforms suuuuuuck. 4. That Purdue stat of their last 2 tournament losses being to a 13 seed and a 15 seed is ridiculous. They're UVA without the one title.
